AMBROSE, ELISABETH MOORE (LIB) - age 89, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Little Creek Sanitarium. The widow of William Leonard Ambrose, Jr., she was a charter member of Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, a member of the Knoxville Junior League, and active in the Chi Omega Fraternity for many years. The daughter of Paul Vernon Moore and Ethel Lyle Seabrook, Elisabeth Seabrook Moore was born at "Fredonia" in Moore, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. She attended the Spartanburg public schools, Agnes Scott College, and received the A. B. degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In her early days in Knoxville, she was employed as medical stenographer for Dr. Jarrell Penn. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Ambrose Hudson and husband, James Paul Hudson of Atlanta; sons, William Leonard Ambrose, III and wife, Catherine Ambrose and Dr. Paul Seabrook Ambrose and wife, Kathleen Hesse Ambrose, all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Sybil Hudson Jones and husband, Mason Carrington Jones of Knoxville, Andrew Print Hudson and James Leonard Hudson of Atlanta, Christopher Seabrook Ambrose, Elisabeth Blakely Ambrose, Colin Moore Ambrose, William Leonard Ambrose, IV and Laura Jeunesse Ambrose, all of Knoxville; great-granddaughter, Ivy Seabrook Carrington Jones. Following a private interment, there will be a memorial service at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, 3700 Keowee Ave., Knoxville, TN 37919, or to Knoxville Union Rescue Ministries, 511 N. Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917. ATKINS, MR. SIDNEY E. - age 85 of Washburn, passed away 1 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2001 at Ridgeview Terrace Healthcare, Rutledge. He was a member of Central View American Christian Church; US Army veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific and was a member of the V.F.W. in Ohio. Preceded in death by wife, Mildred Atkins; parents, Richard and Millie (Idol) Atkins; six brothers; four sister. Survivors: several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Special nieces, Edie and June of Indiana. Special friends include the nurses and staff of Ridgeview Terrace and the family would like to thank them for their special care given to Sidney. Funeral services 2 p.m. Monday Cooke Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Jerry Epperson officiating with music by the Central View Singers. Interment icon Pleasant View cemetery, Maynardville. Pallbearers will be nephews. Friends may call at their convenience at Cooke Mortuary, Maynardville prior to service time.

BARBRE, WINIFRED T. (WIMPY) - age 80, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Jefferson County Nursing Home. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Survived by wife, Helen Barbre of Jefferson City; daughter, Elizabeth Hodges of Knoxville; son, Tommy Barbre of Talbott; grandchildren, Legonda Myers, Charles Hodges, Patricia Winters and Tammy Barbre; five great-granddaughters; brother, Curtis Barbre of Maryville, and three nieces. Funeral service 8 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2001, Fielden Chapel with Dr. Sonny Strange and Rev. Charles Hodges officiating. Family and friends will meet at Mill Springs cemetery Tuesday at 10:45 a.m. for the 11 a.m. interment. The family will receive friends Monday 6-8 p.m. prior to the funeral service at Fielden Funeral Home, New Market.

BELL, MATTHEW JOHN - 19 days old, of Maryville, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2001, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Survivors include parents, Virgil and Patricia Bell; brothers, Robert M. Cross and Nathan Ray Bell; sisters, Lisa Ann Cross, Sarah K. M. Bell, and Christina Margarette Bell, all of Maryville; maternal grandparents, B. N. and Kate King; grandmother, Nora Bell; paternal grandparents, Harold and Jeanette Bell of Rhinelander, Wisc.; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Matthews officiating. Interment icon will follow in Centenary cemetery. BITTERMANN, MADELIENE S. - age 84, of Milldale Rd., Dandridge, Tenn., passed away Wednesday evening, April 18, 2001, at St. Mary's Residence Hospice, following an extended illness. She was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church of East Ridge, Tenn. Mrs. Bittermann was a retired employee of K-Mart after 22 years of service. Preceded in death by husband, Howard Bittermann; son, Francis Joseph Bittermann; parents, George and Mary Ellen Schroeder; sister, Angela Jensen; brothers, Charles, Raymond and Leo Schroeder. Survivors: daughters, Mary Claire B. Eslinger of Dandridge and Janice B. Walker of Chattanooga, Tenn.; grandchildren, Chris and Tressa Walker, Erin and Monica Eslinger; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Alice Walker, Sally and Christan Keener; sister, Anna Marie Schoppe of Joliet, Ill. BURNETT, LOUISE (HAZEL) - 83 of Knoxville, passed away Friday April 20, 2001. Born in Lenoir City, Mrs. Burnett has spent most of her life in the Knoxville area. She was retired from Levi Strauss Co. after 20 years of service. She is preceded in death by her husband, George Burnett. She is survived by her loving family, son and daughter in law, Richard and Cindy Burnette of Clearwater, Fla.; grandchildren, Amanda and John Burnette of Clearwater, Fla.; sisters, Winonia Atkins of Knoxville and Edith Morris of Nashville, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Burnett is at Highland Memorial Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Tuesday April 24 from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services will be held Wednesday April 25 at 9 a.m. at Highland Memorial cemetery, with Rev. BUSH, MRS. PEGGY CASON - age 61 of Knoxville went home to be with the Lord on Thursday morning April 19, 2001 at Fort Sanders Hospital. Faithful member of New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Preceded in death by daughters, Debbie Cason and Felicia D. Jones; parents, Oscar and Pauline Cason; sister, Wilma Curd; brothers, Paul, Eddie and Butch Cason. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She leaves to mourn her passing, devoted husband, Sam Bush; devoted children, Ingrid R. Rodwell, Louisville, Ky., Penny Cason, Atlanta, Ga., and Tracy Miller, Knoxville; stepchildren, Angie Ross, Louisville, Ky., Treva Bush, Steve (Renee) McMahan and Fred Elders, all of Knoxville; very loving and caring son in law, Rev. CARTER, JOE V., JR. - age 82 of Knoxville, passed away Saturday April 21, 2001 at his home after a lingering illness. He was born on September 28, 1918 in Rogersville, Tenn. Mr. Carter was of the Baptist faith and had a strong belief in Christ. He also enjoyed listening to gospel music. Mr. Carter served during World War II with the US Army attaining the rank of Sergeant. He retired after 45 years of dedicated service with Cincinnati Cordage & Paper Company. Preceded in death by his mother, Martha E. Lawson Carter; his father, Joe V. Carter, Sr.; his sisters, Barbara Jean Rutherford and Almeada Miller; also his wife, June Douglas Carter who passed away on May 27, 2000 after 53 years of marriage. He is survived by sons, Allen Carter of Greeneville, Tenn., Robert (Bobby) Carter, Knoxville; daughter and son in law, Gail and Johnny King, Farragut; grandchildren, Dereck and Crystal Carter; step grandson, Jonathan King; brother and sister in law, Carl and Naomi Carter, all of Knoxville. Also other family members and friends. Family and friends will meet Tuesday at Tennessee Veterans cemetery for a 10 a.m. graveside service and interment icon with Rev. Howard Hurst officiating. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.

CATRON, MR. WILLIAM ARNOLD "BILL" - of Greeneville, Tennessee, who retired in 1997, as Franklin Furniture Company's Secretary / Treasurer, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Johnson City Medical Center, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Catron was born April 20, 1929, in Smith County, Virginia, the son of the late A. B. and Mae Catron, and was preceded in death by a son, Joe Catron, in 1992, and a brother, Joe Mike Catron. Mr. Catron professed faith in Christ and was baptized at an early age. He was a member of Ezel Methodist Church in Nebo, Virginia, until moving his membership to Asbury United Methodist Church in Greeneville. He was graduated from Ceres Virginia High School and attended King College in Bristol, Virginia. Family members and close friends knew he was particularly proud of having played a major role in developing and organizing the Franklin Furniture Company in 1965. He and his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth Wyatt Catron, lived at Tanglewood Drive, Greenville, for many years, until their recent move to a condominium at Holley Place. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a special granddaughter, Alex Catron of Greeneville, and daughter-in-law, DeAnn Bowman; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Frankie and Claude Davis of Wytheville, Virginia, Doris and Bill Woodward of Bluefield, Virginia; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Norma Catron of Ceres, Virginia; two nephews and four nieces, all of Virginia; special friends, Bill and Dot Alexander of Greeneville, and Sherri Nave of Johnson City. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Doughty-Stevens Chapel with interment icon to follow in Oak Grove cemetery, Reverend Chuck Stark will officiate. Active pallbearers are: Terry Douthat, Howard Painter, Al Cagle, Duke Ingram, Don Waddell, Curtis Wyatt, George Dixon, Fleming Brown, Dale Fann, also Dr. John Garren, and Bill Alexander. Honorary pallbearers are: Frank Blevins, Avery Blevins, Willard Blevins, A. J. Harmon, Bobby Wilhoit, W. T. Mays, Dr. Dale Brown; past employees of Franklin Furniture Company, Charlie Walker, Bob Houck, Dr. Ron Cole, Dr. Mark Patterson, Dr. Joe Austin, Joe Peake, Dr. James Rodgers, Steve Goodrich, Greeneville EMS, and employees of City Pharmacy and George Bullard. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

DORRYCOTT, GEORGIA - age 86, of Knoxville, passed away 5:55 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Northhaven HealthCare Center. Member of Inskip United Methodist Church. Retired from U. T. Hospital, after 20 years of service. Survivors: daughters and sons-in-law, Lenora and Jim Mase, Jamella (Jamie) and Stephen Brinkley, all of Knoxville; son, James (Jim) M. Dorrycott of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Betty Luft of Washington, Pennsylvania. Family and friends will meet at Bookwalter cemetery on Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at 10:45 a.m. for an 11 a.m. graveside service and interment. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Ave. at Broadway.

EDWARDS, MRS. PEGGY RUSSELL - of Knoxville, departed this life, Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Jarnigan & Son Mortuary.

EZELL, SIDNEY BOYD (SEAN) - age 31 of the Dogwood Community Kingston, passed away suddenly Saturday morning, April 21, 2001 in a motorcycle accident. Sidney was an employee of G Force Fabrication. He was an avid sportsman and Gunsmith. Survivors: wife, Debbie (Range) Ezell; son, Mitchell Lee Ezell; step children, Jack, Patricia and Laura Glandon of Lenoir City, Jeff Davis of Knoxville; mother, Claudia McGrath; sisters, April McGrath, Michelle Eakles and Amber Zeno; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerherd Muller all of Florida; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Funeral services 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Johnson and Rev. GRIFFITH, GRACE F. - 68, of Valdosta died Thursday, April 19, 2001 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on August 13, 1932 in Griffin, Ga. and had lived in Valdosta since 1959. Mrs. Griffith was retired as a Chief Nurse from the South Georgia Health District and a member of Christ Episcopal Church. Survivors include her husband, Swinton A. Griffith, Jr. of Valdosta; a daughter and son in law, Margaret and Will Gowers of Birmingham, Ala.; two sons and a daughter in law, Swinton Ill and Amanda Griffith of Duluth, Ga. and Carl Griffith of Dublin, Ga.; six grandchildren, Megan Gowers, Griffith Gowers, Swinton Griffith, IV, Ansley Griffith, Ross Griffith and Will Griffith. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Farrar and her mother, Harriett Proctor Morris. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday April 21, 2001 at Christ Episcopal Church with Rev. Peter L. Ingeman and Jim Cox officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2001 in Sunset cemetery in Madisonville, Tenn. HODGES, JAMES EDGAR - age 87 of Route 3 Oakland Community, Rutledge, passed away at 3 a.m. Saturday morning, April 21, 2001 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City following an extended illness. Edgar was a lifelong member of the Oakland Baptist Church where he had served in the capacity of Trustee and Sunday school teacher. He was a retried employee of the Appalachian Electric Coop. after 33 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ethel Seymour Hodges; brothers, Edward, Conard, Robert, Charles, and Billy Lee Hodges. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mary Davis Hodges of the home; son and daughter in law, David and Linda Hodges of Rutledge; beloved granddaughter, Jill Hodges of Rutledge; sister, Rena Hayes of Benton, Tenn.; sister in law, Sara V. Hodges of New Market; brothers and sisters in law, Ewin and Dean Hodges of Rutledge and J.A. and Kathryn Hodges of Rutledge; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday evening, April 22, 2001 from the Oakland Baptist the Church with Rev. Stacey Lawson and Rev. Jerry DeZearn officiating. Family and friends will meet at 1:15 p.m. Monday afternoon, April 23, 2001, at Farrar Funeral Home and proceed to Oakland Baptist Church cemetery for a 2 p.m. graveside service. Pallbearers will be Glenn Hodges, Alton Hodges, Carl Culbertson, Ben Larrance, Eddie Hodges, Bill Underwood, and Nick Hayes. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Senior Adult Mens Sunday school class. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday prior to services at the church. MADGETT, MARY A. RANDLES - age 88 of Knoxville, died Friday April 20, 2001. She was a member of Roseberry Baptist Church. Mrs. Madgett was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. Madgett; infant daughter, Sarah Elizabeth; brothers, Homer, Edward E., Ralph & Oley; and sister, Blanche. She is survived by nieces & nephews, Helen Randles of Knoxville, Newell Randles of Chester, Va., John Randles of Fla., Pauline Garrett, Jack C. Randles of Maryland, Mary Lou Bothe of Fla.; special niece, Nina Madgett of Knoxville, Kyle Madgett of Calif., Phyllis Ely, Helen Deford, Mary Lee Phillips, Evelyn Underwood, Glenn, Robert, Carl & Grady Madgett all of Knoxville. Family & friends will meet Monday at Roseberry cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service with Rev. Willie Newman & Rev. Kenny Shinlever officiating. Pallbearers: J.L.
