BEAN, RICHARD "DICK" - age 64, of Powell, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center. He attended First Baptist Church of Powell, and was a U. S. Army Veteran. He was a 32 Degree Mason and member of the Burlington Lodge #763 F&AM. Preceded in death by daughter, Susie Coile. Survived by wife, Mary Sharp Bean; daughter, Janet Wells; grandchildren, Kristyn, Ashley and Megan Wells; step mother, Frances Bean; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Weaver's Chapel with a Masonic service at 8 p.m. and the funeral service to follow, Rev. Phil Jones officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens for an 11 a.m. graveside service. Arrangements by Weaver Funeral Home, 5815 Western Ave.

BIVENS, ANNA BELLE McKELVEY - age 80, of Sevierville, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2001, at her home. Survivors: sons and daughters-in-law, Rufus and Marie Bivens, Huston and Sadie Bivens, Don Bivens, Ronnie and Wanda Bivens, Sam Bivens, and Darrel Bivens; daughters and sons-in-law, Irene Bivens, Phyllis and Basil Alls, Norman and Steve Craighead, and Wilma Higgenbotham; 26 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Walter McKelvey; sisters, Jesse Bivens and Edith Newman. Funeral service 7 p.m. Friday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Helton officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Grove cemetery in Maryville for interment. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Friday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.

CAIN, HELEN WALKER - age 91, of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2001, after a lingering illness. Member of Broadway Baptist Church, and owner of the former Aunt Fanny's Fudge. Past member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Beta Sigma Phi. Preceded in death by husband, "Jack" Cain; parents, Joseph and Mary Alice Baker Walker; sister, Lucille Rogers, and son-in-law, Jim Thurman. Survivors: daughter, Jackie Thurman of Knoxville; grandchildren, Kevin and Julie Thurman of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Lucylle Osburn of St. Petersburg, Fla., and many nieces and nephews. Graveside service 11 a.m. Saturday, Lynnhurst cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Knoxville Alzheimer's Association or Mariner Health Care of Norris. CARERO, WADE S. - age 37, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2001 at Fort Sanders Hospital. Member of Payne Ave. Baptist Church. He was a very loving and devoted son and brother. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He is preceded in death by sister, Claudia. Survived by loving parents, Rosalie & David; brothers, Sheldon, Victor (Etta); sisters, Ingrid Dale, Tanya (Hilton) Tate, Edris Carero; uncles, Holbert (Wilma) Brabson, Alvin (Ruby) Brabson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special thanks to the Craig family, Paul Jones, Rev. Benton, and the staff at Fort Sanders Hospital. The body will be viewed all day Friday at Jarnigan & Son. The family will be at 2849 Gardenia Dr. Family and friends will assemble at Gardenia Dr. on Sat. at 12 noon to proceed to Bethlehem cemetery on Millertown Pike for graveside services with Rev. CLARKSON, BERYL F. - age 74, of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center. A member of City View Baptist Church, retired from Robert Shaw Co. Preceded in death by parents, Lillard and Pearl Mamie Clarkson and sister, Wanda Wood. Survivors: wife, Osie Clarkson; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Jean Clarkson of St. Augustine, Fla.; sister, June Crane of Powell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hester and Kyle Warwick, Esther and George Rines, all of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Hildegard Bubat of Germany; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services 8 p.m. Friday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. Donnie Holly and Rev. R. G. Seals officiating. Family and friends will leave Rose Mortuary, 11:30 a.m. Saturday and proceed to Lynnhurst cemetery for interment icon at 12 Noon. Pallbearers will be nephews. CRUTCHER, NATHAN CONLEY - age 76, of Lenoir City, passed away Tuesday evening, April 10, 2001, at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. Nathan was born September 9, 1924, in Stewart County, Tenn., to William Conley Crutcher and Mattie Lou Wiggins Crutcher. He was a member and Deacon of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Nathan was retired from Martin Marietta K-25 plant with 42 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Loyd Crutcher; and sister, Velma Marie Crutcher Watson. Survivors: wife of 45 years, Bobbye Mallory Crutcher; daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Keith McCollum of Fountain City; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Linda Crutcher of Birmingham, Ala; grandchildren, Katherine Marie Crutcher and William Tate Crutcher, Christopher Conley McCollum; nephews, Micky Crutcher and Tommy Watson; niece, Mary Ann Vinson. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. CRUZE, ELIZABETH FORD - age 87 died Wednesday April 11, 2001 at Baptist Hospital. She was a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and a member of the Eastern Star. She was a retired beautician Preceded in death by son, William Cruze, Jr.; parents, David Harrison, Jr. and Martha Etta Ford; brother, David H. Ford, III; nephew, David H. Ford, IV. She is survived by husband of 60 years, William W. Cruze, Sr. of Seymour; son and daughter in law, Edward Ford and Relda O. Cruze of Seymour; daughter in law, Linda Lee Burchell Cruze of Knoxville; sister and brother in law, Esta Lee and Fred Bales, Sr.; devoted niece and nephews, Jan Cruze, Phil Cruze and Fred Bales, Jr. Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday at Berry Chapel with Pastor S.L. CRUZE, WILLIAM WALLACE, JR. "BILL" - age 57, died Tuesday evening, April 10, 2001 at Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital. He was a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. He was a retired carpenter. He is survived by wife, Linda Lee Burchell Cruze of Knoxville; father, William W. Cruze, Sr. of Seymour; mother, Elizabeth Ford Cruze, who died Wednesday morning when told of the death of her son; brother and sister in law, Edward and Relda Cruze of Seymour; mother in law, Mrs. Roy L. (Irene Blazier) Burchell. Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday at Berry Chapel With Pastor S.L. Spangler, Jr. officiating. Interment icon will follow at Woodlawn cemetery. DONAHUE, LESTER SAMUEL - age 90, of Knoxville, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Brakebill Nursing Home. He was a Deacon at South Knoxville Church of Christ. He belonged to Carpenters Local #50. Preceded in death by parents, Uriah J. & Amanda Donehew (Donahue); son, Terry; daughter, Helen; granddaughter, Robin Grigg; brothers, Herman & Clyde Donahue; sisters, Golda Donehew & Pervie Bowling. Survivors: wife of 66 years, Ella Williams Donahue; son, Roy Donahue; daughter & son-in-law, Wanda & Ernest Grigg; grandsons, Michael & Jeffery Grigg; sisters-in-law, Ruby & Lois Donahue; several nieces & nephews. Friends & family will meet at Highland Memorial cemetery for burial at 12 Noon Friday. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

DORRIS, MRS. ZELMA (SMILES) - of Huntsville died April 10 after a brief illness. She was the widow of Mr. James R. Dorris, who died in 1984, and the mother of Priscilla Dorris Stansberry, also of Huntsville. Mrs. Dorris lived her entire life in East Tenn. Born in the Cumberland County town of Mayland, she earned a lifelong nickname "Smiles" from her fourth grade schoolmates. She graduated from Pleasant Hill Academy and taught elementary school in small rural schools in upper East Tenn. On April 12, 1930 she and her sister, Ercellee ("Si") eloped with Jim Dorris and H.G. Tucker. Soon after, she moved to Knoxville and attended the University of Tenn., graduating with a degree in home economics. She was the first member of her family to earn a college degree and was at the time the only married woman enrolled at UT. Her daughter, Pris, was born in 1940, and Mrs. Dorris "retired" to be a wife and mother. She and her husband were avid golfers, playing weekly and following favorites on the PGA tour. She maintained this interest to the end. When Pris told her the "Tiger had won the Masters", the news made her smile a big smile! She joined the Congregationalist Church while at Pleasant Hill Academy, and remained a Congregationalist the rest of her life. She is survived by her daughter, Pris and son in law, Don C. Stansberry, Jr. of Huntsville; grandchildren, Don C. Stansberry, III and wife, Tracey of Huntsville and granddaughter, Debbie Faires and son in law, Eric Faires of Memphis; great grandchildren, Frank Russell Stansberry and Lisa Stansberry of Huntsville and Jay Faires of Memphis; sister and brother in law, Ercelle ("Si") and H.G. Tucker of Old Hickory and sister, Minnie Hyder of Crossville. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday April 12, 2001 at the First Presbyterian Church of Huntsville. Four Oaks Funeral Home of Huntsville is in charge of the arrangements for the family of Mrs. Zelma (Smiles) Dorris.

DYER, CHARLES MICHAEL - age 44, of Harriman, passes away Wednesday morning, April 11, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Preceded in death by parents, Charles and Violet Dyer. Survivors: sisters, Judy Cool of Maryville and Kathy Johnson of Clinton; brothers, Troy Dyer and Gary Dyer, both of Maryville, and Don Dyer of Boone, N.C.; several nieces and nephews. Special nurse, D. J. of Kingston; caretaker, Matt of the Michael Dunn Center. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2001, Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Gene Gann officiating. Interment icon to follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

ELLIS, HAZEL C. - 91 of Jellico, Tenn. passed away Tuesday April 10, 2001 at the Jellico Community Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Sylvester & Jessie Hollingsworth Creekmore. She was a 1933 graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse at the Jellico Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jellico. Preceded in death by her daughter, Franny; husband, Carl; and brother, E.H. "Dick" Creekmore, Sr. Survived by son and daughter in law, Michael and Sandra Ellis of Longwood, Fla.; grandson, David Ellis & wife, Mindy of Oviedo, Fla.; great grandsons, Michael David Ellis and Jeffery Ellis; sister, George Adkins of Jellico; nieces, Melinda Beever, Jessie Baird, Lynn Cox, all of Jellico; nephew, Dick Creekmore, Jr. of Jellico; 5 great nieces; 2 great nephews; 2 great-great nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday April 14 from 1-3 p.m. at the Cox & Son Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Michael Blankenship officiating. HADDEN, GEORGIA MAE MORRIS - age 91, of West Knoxville, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital. She was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church for over 42 years, and the Christian Home Sunday School Class. She was a graduate of Athens College, Athens, Alabama. A member of the University Women's Club, and founder of the Wesley Foundation at Murray State University in Kentucky. She was a High School English Teacher for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelby Newton Hadden in 1978. Survivors: sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph Lee and Mary Hadden of Morristown, Shelby Morris and Anne Hadden of Kingsport, Hal Winston and Linda Hadden of Brentwood; daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Walt Valentine of Brentwood; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Carl Hadden and McKinney Hadden, both of Elkton, Ky.; numerous special nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sat., Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Dr. Hal Hadden and Rev. William R. Fowler officiating. Pallbearers will be Joe R. Hadden, John S. HATMAKER, SYLVIA ANGELINE PAYNE - age 88, of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Baptist Hospital. She was of the Baptist faith. Retired from Y12 with 35 years service. Preceded in death by husband, Gilmer Hatmaker and grandson, James M. Mitchell, III. Survived by daughter, Carole Y. Mitchell; granddaughter, Janice Y. Brown and husband Jimmy; great-grandchildren, James Michael Mitchell, Jeremiah Brown, and Jahnae Brown; several nieces and nephews. HAUN, GILLES N. - age 66, of Loudon and Spring City, Tenn., passed away Thursday morning, April 12, 2001, at Shannondale Nursing Home, Knoxville. Gilles was a Veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in Germany. Son of the late Clarence Haun. Survivors: son, Gilles N. Haun of Radcliff, Kentucky; daughters, Judith Bahr of Loudon and Joy Marie Haun of Beaver Town, Oregon; two grandchildren, Heather Rose Haun and Dennis Bahr, II; mother, Beulah McCollister Haun and sister, Barbara Jean Crum of Ockeechobee, Fla.; brother, Freeman Haun of Port Orchard, Washington. Funeral services 7:30 p.m. Friday, Loudon Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Jim Bowers officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at River View cemetery for graveside services and military honors by American Legion Post #120 & V.F.W. Post 5150, Loudon. HEIDEL, MRS. EILEEN DAVIS - age 90, of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Holston Nursing Home. She lived at Heritage Assisted Living for four years prior to the recent move to Holston. She was a charter member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Knoxville. Mrs. Heidel was peceded in death by her son, Alvin Davis Heidel and husband Alvin Henry Heidel; mother and father, Samuel Lawrence Davis and Josephine Fagnan Davis; brothers, Ellis and Holbert; sisters, Magrada, Francis, Joanne, Blanche and Myrtle. She was the last of the Davis Family. She is survived by her grandchildren, Mark F. Heidel and wife Teresa, and Madelyn H. Crisp and her husband, David; daughter-in-law, Betty B. Heidel Shanton; four great-grandchildren she adored, Matt Heidel, Luke Heidel, Cayla Crisp, and Keeley Crisp; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, April 13, 2001, from 6:30-8 p.m., Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. Funeral services will begin at 8 p.m. with Rev. Fred West, Jr., Assistant Pastor and faithful friend of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church officiating. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, 10 a.m. in the Morgan Memorial Gardens, Wartburg.
