LUNSFORD, DANIEL "DANNY" EUGENE - of Knoxville, passed away 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, after an extended illness. Danny was founder and owner of Lunsford Musical Instruments, a member of Boy Scouts for many years, and a member of the U.S. Air Force Medic Unit, during the Vietnam era. He enjoyed many hobbies, including horseback riding, fishing, golf, music and most of all his loving family. Danny was preceded in death by brother, Michael L. Lunsford; father-in-law, Austin Phillips and special friend, Charles Williams. Survivors: wife, Sonja Phillips Lunsford; mother, Billey Jean Williams of Knoxville; father, Bob E. LUTTRELL, MILFORD CLIFTON (BILL) - age 83, of Lenoir City, entered eternal rest Thursday, March 8, 2001, at his home. Bill was born in Roane County to parents, Samuel Nelson Luttrell and Annie Scarbrough Luttrell, who preceded him in death. He was a faithful member and Deacon of Highland Park Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for over 40 years, and was Church Clerk and Trustee, until failing health forced him to give up the duties he loved. He retired from the Lenoir City Utilities Board in 1983, after 31 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of World War II. He is preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Ruth Diggs Luttrell; brothers, Aubrey Deitz Luttrell, Ira Carroll Luttrell, Hubert Nelson Luttrell; sisters, Mildred Georgia Luttrell Henry. Bill leaves to celebrate his life, daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Ike O'Dell; sons and daughters-in-law, Gil and Brenda Luttrell of Knoxville, and Howard and Anna Luttrell of Lenoir City; grandchildren, Doug O'Dell, Amy O'Dell Rankin, Brian Luttrell, Kristi Luttrell, Lori Luttrell Schirle, Brad Luttrell, and Sam Luttrell; great-grandchildren, Noah Rankin, Claire Luttrell, Amanda Schirle, Hannah Ruth Rankin, and John Bradley Luttrell; several nieces and nephews, and a host of church family. MEEKS, KAY - Our special angel and beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Baptist Hospital. As a Silver Master, she was a life long dedicated bridge player, much loved and respected by her peers. Kay was a guiding force in the creation of the new Knoxville Bridge Center and will be sorely missed by all that knew her, both as a bridge player and a friend. She was past President of the OMNI Women's Club and involved in Welcome Wagon, Newcomers, and many other social and civic organizations. Mrs. Meeks was preceded in death by her husband, Hatcher; mother, Martha Martin; father, Albert Jellel; sisters, Minnie, Gracie, and Josephine, and brothers, Richie and Amel. She is survived by her loving family, daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Leonard Ray, and Sharon and Ron Cooper; four grandchildren, Danielle, Ryan, Lori, and Joshua; her beloved Pepper; brother, Edward; sisters, Dorothy, Betty, Margery, Deloris, and Gloria, and many cherished nieces and nephews. PARDUE, MAGDALENE - age 86, of Clinton, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Ft. Sanders Parkwest Hospital. She was born October 16, 1915, in Anderson County. She was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Clinton. Preceded in death by her husband, Robert Pardue, and daughter, Mary Ruth Brooks. Survivors: grandson, John M. Brooks of Longmont, Colorado; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; sister-in-law, Violet Turner of Lake City. RYAN, BARBARA JO (ALVIS) - passed away on March 8, 2001 at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville following a brief illness. She was the owner of Barbara's School of Dance, and was employed by the Hamblen County School System as a teacher's assistant at Fairview marguerite School. She was the daughter of the late Lynn Alvis. She was a member of Buffalo Trail Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Gary Ryan; son, Lynn; daughter, Summer Leigh; mother, Mary Ruth Alvis; brothers, Sandy and Dennis Alvis; brother in law, Ronnie Ryan; sisters in law, Marlene Alvis and Regina Ryan. She also leaves her nieces and nephews, Lindsey and Keith Alvis and Bo and Stephanie Clonce. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Friday at Buffalo Trail Baptist Church. SNODGRASS, MENDELL, SR. - age 84 of Tazewell was born March 30, 1916 passed away March 8, 2001 at Park West Hospital in Knoxville. He was an Army Air Force veteran of WWII. He served his country from 1942 to 1946. He was of the Methodist faith. Preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Maggie Snodgrass; wife, Myrtice (Lockerman) Snodgrass; sister, Louzella Duncan; brothers, Charles, Hughgather, Audie, Vester, Ferdinand & Melvin Snodgrass. He is survived by one son, Mendell Snodgrass, Jr. of Knoxville; grandson, Robert Snodgrass of Oak Ridge; brother, Earl Snodgrass of Tazewell; several nieces and nephews and friends. TATE, MR. WILLIAM KNOX - age 77, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital. Mr. Tate was born April 26, 1923, in Knoxville, the son of the late Judge Hugh Tate and Clara Hill Tate. He was a pilot with the 63rd Fighter Squadron of the Army Air Corp in World War II. He was stationed in England while he was in the Army from 1942 until 1944, and was honorably discharged with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Mr. Tate graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He also was tapped as a member of the Golden Fleece. Mr. Tate was a scholar whose passion was education for everyone. He was an avid reader and enjoyed every facet of learning. His career as a stockbroker included work with Merrill Lynch, Reynolds & Co., and Interstate Securities. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service. In addition to his wife, Pat, Mr. Tate is survived by his son, Knox Tate, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Terry Dorr of Birmingham, Ala., and Cathy Militante of Chicago, Ill.; three grandsons, Tripp Tate, Andy Tate, and Drew Dorr. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2001, at Amity Presbyterian Church cemetery with Reverend Bill Youmans officiating. Preceded in death by parents and son, Mylon Leon Troutman. Survived by beloved husband of 72 years, Marshall L. Troutman; sons and daughters-in-law, Hubert and Betty Troutman, Paul and Marianne Troutman, Russell and Mary Troutman, Charles and Caroline Troutman of Knoxville, and Jack and Marsha Troutman of Virginia; daughters and sons-in-law, Billie Jean and J. D.
