HOUSER, GENEVA KIRBY - of North Knoxville, died Saturday March 3, 2001 at her home. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Chilhowee Baptist Church. She retired in 1985 from Levis Strauss with over 30 years service. Preceded in death by husband Lynn M. Houser; and two sisters. Survivors: sister and brother in law, Thelma and Frank Smith of Lafayette, Ga.; sister in law and brother in law, Marian and Dick Broatz of Knoxville; brother in law and sister in law, Huey and Barbara Houser, Simpsonville, SC; sister in Christ, and special friend for over 51 years, Bobbie Crigger and husband, Gene and family; a host of nieces and nephews special friends and neighbors. Funeral service 8 p.m. Tuesday Rose Broadway Chapel, Rev. Don Dixon and David Oxidine officiating. Pallbearers; David Broatz, Tim Barnhill, Van Barnhill, Jim Crigger, David Crigger, Robbie Lawrence, Randy Stephens. The family and friends will meet and leave Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Wed. and proceed to Highland Memorial cemetery for an 11 a.m. interment icon service. Family will receive friends 6-8 Tues. at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

HOWARD, VELMA LOU COOPER - age 87, of Sweetwater, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Sweetwater Hospital. She was a member of Johnson Baptist Church in Erie Community. She was a caregiver for many area children and elderly. Preceded in death by parents, John B. and Lily Bell Cooper; brothers, Woody, Dewey, and Thomas; sisters, Myra Cooper and Ruby Belcher. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, John Reese and Marilyn Howard of Tempe, Ariz.; grandsons, Bill Howard and Jeff Howard, both of Tempe, Ariz., and Jim Howard of Washington; granddaughter, Tammy Howard of Alaska; brother and sister-in-law, Claude and Della Cooper of Loudon. Special caregiver, niece and spouse, Carol and Nathaniel Ellison. Several other nieces and nephews including beloved great niece and nephew, Lana Hickman and Randall Cooper. The body is at Kyker Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tues. Funeral service to follow in Kyker's Chapel with Rev. Ted Pegram officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Wed. for an 11 a.m. graveside service at Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park.

JENNINGS, FRANK T., SR. - age 85, of Knoxville, passed away Mon. afternoon, March 5, 2001, at U. T. Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Gentry-Griffey Chapel.

KECK, MR. RUSSELL - age 77, of New Tazewell, Tenn., was born December 25, 1923, and passed away Sunday, March 4, 2001, at the Claiborne County Nursing Home. He was a member and Deacon of the Tazewell Baptist Church, where he served faithfully until his sickness. He was the last Post Master at the Goin Post Office, he then transferred to New Tazewell Post Office as Post Master until his retirement. He was a counselor with the Billy Graham Crusade, when it was in Knoxville. He was a Gideon member of the Claiborne County Camp. He was a 50 year Masonic member of New Tazewell Lodge. He was on the Board of Directors of the Claiborne County Farm Bureau, where he had served as a past President. He was President of Soil Conservation District. He was an original Board Member of the Claiborne County Hospital and served during its construction. He was the son of the late M. C. and Mary Jane Russell Keck. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Curtis and Fred Keck; sisters, Cecil Carey, Lollas Robinett, and Lavetta Crawford. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Christine Davis Keck of New Tazewell; brother, Fay G. Keck and wife Clara of New Tazewell; sisters, Roberta Carr of New Tazewell, and Rowena Barnes Cupp and husband Herman of New Tazewell; eight nephews and six nieces; brother-in-law, John A. Crawford of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Dallie Keck Webster of Asheville, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Pauline Davis Candler of FL, Frances Wiley Patterson and husband Bill of FL, and Barbara Wiley of FL; four nieces and three nephews-in-law; two special nephews, Mike Candler of FL and Eric Barnes of New Tazewell, Tenn.; one special niece, Paula Candler of Florida, and many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at the Claiborne Funeral Home. Funeral services 2 p.m. Wed., March 7, 2001, in the Claiborne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Overholt and Rev. Irby Russell officiating. Music by Dana Minor. Pallbearers will be Gideons, Dr. Roy Norris, Billy Joe Overton, Delmis Turnmire, Kenneth Brooks, Wayne Mills, and C. B. Duncan. Burial will be in the M.C. Keck cemetery. Claiborne Funeral Home.

KOPLAN, MARTIN "MARTY" ANDREW - age 36, passed away suddenly on Sun., March 4, 2001, at his home in Irvine, CA. Marty received a Bachelor of Science degree with highest honors in Finance at the University of TN, and an MBA from the University of Houston. He was a 20 year Veteran with United Parcel Service, where he worked as the District Controller in their West Los Angeles office. His greatest achievement, and that for which he was most proud, was his family.He is survived by his loving wife, Ramona Lynn Hilton Koplan; two sons, Austin and Zachary; mother, Sue Miller; father, Gary Koplan; brother, Ben and wife Kristine; sister, Karen, much additional family and many, many friends. He will be missed and loved forever. Funeral service will be at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel on Thurs., March 8, 2001, at 10 a.m., Rabbi Howard Simon and Rabbi Beth Schwartz officiating. Interment icon to follow. The family asks that donations in Marty's memory be made to The Children's Institute International, where he was a volunteer. LONG, GARY WAYNE - age 46 went home to be with Jesus on March 2, 2001, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was a native of Jefferson County. Survivors; wife, Susan King Long; sons, Chad and Brad; and five grandchildren all of Cocoa, Fla.; parents, Remes and Kathryn Long of New Market; sister and brother in law, Carolyn and Gary Mills of New Market; brother and sister in law, Jack & Mary Long of Cocoa, Fla.; several nieces and nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Funeral service conducted by Rev. Gary Innman and interment icon at Brenard Memorial Park, Frontenac, Fla.

MILLOWAY, MR. JOHN T., JR. - of 125 Monticello Road, Oak Ridge, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2001. Mr. Milloway was born on November 24, 1928, in Cleveland, Tenn., the son of John T. Milloway, Sr. and Dora Blankenship Milloway. He graduated from Bradley Central High School in 1945, after being voted "Mr. Bradley" and "Best All Around" by his fellow students. After graduating from high school a year early, he attended Tennessee Polytechnic Institute in Cookeville, Tenn. He was featured in "Who's Who among Students in American Colleges and Universities". He was the editor of the 1948 yearbook, the "Eagle" and was active in the Baptist Student Union, the Tech Christian Association and Tennessee Tech Engineers. Mr. Milloway graduated in 1949 with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Milloway was a Veteran of the United States Navy, having served as a commissioned officer in the Navy's Civil Engineer Corps. After completing Officer Candidate School at the Naval Station in Newport, Rhode Island, and Civil Engineer Corps Basic School at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Port Hueneme, Calif., he was stationed at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport, Miss., where he met Catherine Arrigo. They married in 1956. The couple then moved to the Naval Air Station in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After his discharge from active service, Mr. Milloway continued to serve his country in the Naval Reserves and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Mr. Milloway first came to Oak Ridge in 1949, as an editor with McGraw-Hill Book Company Contract Group, located in the Atomic Energy Commission's Division of Technical Information. Upon returning to Oak Ridge after military service, Mr. Milloway resumed his career with the Atomic Energy Commission as Chief of Special Projects Branch, Construction Division and then as Director of the Engineering Division of the Department of Energy's predecessor agencies. In 1974, he was named Assistant Manager for Construction and Engineering and in 1986, he was named Assistant Manager of the Oak Ridge Operations Office. It was during this assignment that he was responsible for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve Project. He was the recipient of several of the Department of Energy's Senior Executive Superior Performance Awards and a Distinguished Career Service Award. After retirement from DOE in 1989, he continued to assist in energy-related projects with Ebasco and, later, Kelly-Anderson Associates. Mr. Milloway was an active member of the Central Baptist Church, which he joined in May of 1966. He participated in the Music Ministry of the church, sang in the Sanctuary Choir, the Jubilant Jubilee Choir, and had been involved in various dramatic presentations. He was the Adult Five Department Director for many years. He served on a number of standing committees through the years, including the Finance Committee, the Personnel Committee, and the Benevolence Committee. One of Mr. Milloway's most valuable contributions to the church was his service on a special Building committee, from 1982 through 1986, that was responsible for the church's present Worship Center. He has been a member of the Oak Ridge Rotary, a member of the Oak Ridge Utilities Board, President of the Oak Ridge Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and worked with Anderson County as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. He enjoyed traveling, music, photography, hunting and fishing. Mr. Milloway is survived by his wife, Catherine, by two daughters, Shelley and Amy, by a son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Caramia, and two grandchildren, Emma and Olivia, by a sister, Frances Chesnutt, of Chattanooga, Tenn., by a brother and sister-in-law, George and Jane Milloway of Gallatin, Tenn., and by several cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, a son, John, precedes him in death, as does a brother, James and two nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 8, 2001, at the Central Baptist Church from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held immediately thereafter. The burial will take place Friday at 10 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Milloway has requested, donations be made to the American Cancer Society and to the Capital Equipment Building Fund at Central Baptist Church, Oak Ridge.

LOWE, BETTY PRESSLEY CHEEK - age 67, of Knoxville, passed away Sat. March 3, 2001. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Seymour. Preceded in death by parents, Charlie & Flossie Pressley. Survived by husband, Gerald Lowe, Sr.; daughters & spouses, Carolyn Cheek & Jack Payne, Kathy Cheek-Hutson and Woody Hutson, Sandra Cheek, Myra Cheek-Bowling; grandchildren, Aaron & Adam Bowling; step children and spouses; Gerald & Bambi Lowe, Jr., Kim & Brian Davis, Michael & Libby Lowe and Richard & Robin Lowe; 7 step grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Cavins; brothers & sisters in law, Clyde & Brenda Pressley, Glenn & Charlotte Pressley, Kenneth & Pat Pressley. Several loving nieces & nephews. Funeral service 8 p.m. Tues. Mynatt's Chapel. Rev. Floyd Powell officiating. Pallbearers: Dean Pressley, Michael Pressley, Ken Pressley, Mark Pressley, Carl Brown & Ronnie Morris. Family & friends will meet at the funeral home 10:15 a.m. Wed. & proceed to Mt. Harmony cemetery for an interment icon service at 11 a.m. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tues. at Mynatt's.

MARSHALL, JOHN EDWARD, JR. - age 55, of Knoxville, Tenn., passed away Sun., March 4, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital. Preceded in death by his father, John Edward Marshall, Sr. Survived by mother, Reva Plemens Marshall; brother, Michael Marshall; nephew, Michael Marshall, Jr., and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. John will be remembered by his family and loved ones as a kind, gentle, loving, considerate person, one who enjoyed God's creations, such as a beautiful sunset or a lovely flower. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. At his request, his body was made available for organ transplants and his remains were cremated to be spread on the waters of his favorite fishing spots. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Building Fund of the Halls Christian Church, 4131 East Emory Rd., Knoxville, TN 37938. Minister Larry Woods will officiate at a memorial service for John at the Halls Christian Church beginning at 7 p.m. Wed., March 7.

McKEE, JAMES - age 83 of Lenoir City passed away Monday afternoon March 5, 2001, at Park West Hospital. James was a member of Sixth Avenue Church of God. He was a Ssgt. With the U.S. Marine Corp for 16 years. James was retired from Maremont Corp. He was preceded in death by parents, Fred McKee and Synthia Lynn McKee Wright; sister, Lela Powers; brother, Howard Wright. Survivors: wife of 48 years, Henrietta Rodgers McKee; daughters, Margie Bryant and Brenda Brewer both of Lenoir City; grandchildren, Rebecca Laney, Andy Baker, David Worley, Mi-Dona Worley, Richard Worley and Mary Ann Brewer; brother, John McKee of Madisonville; sisters Gussie Jones of Madisonville and Dorothy Wakefield of Tellico Plains; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-7:45 p.m. Wed. followed by funeral services at 8 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Franklin Bryant and Rev. Jackie Wakefield officiating. McREYNOLDS, WILLIAM, JR. - of Knoxville, passed away March 3, 2001 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. Member of Dixie Lee Baptist Church. He was a decorated WWII Army veteran. Retired from Union Carbide and enjoyed a lifetime of farming. Preceded in death by wife, Bettye Richardson McReynolds; brother & sister in law, Hugh Mac & Clara McReynolds. MEYERS, MR. DAVID W. - age 43, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2001, at U. T. Hospital. Mr. Meyers was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church and owner of Meyers Produce, Inc., wholesale fruit and vegetable business. Survivors: parents, Buster and Velma Meyers; sister and brother-in-law, Deborah Meyers Thornton and Kenneth W. Thornton; niece, Olivia J. MOYER, DESSIE TATE - age 81 of Lenoir City passed away Sunday, March 4, 2001, at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Dessie was preceded in death by parents, John and Pearl Tate; husband, Moss Moyer; brother, Leonard Tate; and granddaughter, Ann Haire. She will be deeply missed but she will mount up with wings as eagles. PATTEN, MARY BROWN - age 87 of Oakland Ave. Lenoir City passed away suddenly early Sunday morning March 4, 2001 at her home. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Patten; son, Raymond George Patten; sister, Josephine Harris. Survivors: daughters, Nancy Baird and Margie Trollinger both of Lenoir City; sons, Allan Patten of Lenoir City and Rex Patten of Corryton; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Willie Gilliam of McDonough, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. RAWLINGS, MRS. MILDRED BOND - age 88, of Nashville, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, she was a Homemaker and a member of Belview United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. She was the daughter of the late William and Geneva Cunningham Bond. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Philip A. Rawlings; two daughters, Linda Bozza of Nashville, Tenn., Mrs. Robert (Millicent) McBride of Farragut, Tenn.; four grandsons, Dennis McBride, Scott McBride of Knoxville, Tenn., James Bobo of Kingston Springs, Tenn., and Richard Bobo of Nashville, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Geneva Donaldson of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Mary Coduto of Knoxville, Tenn., and ten great-grandchildren. Graveside Services will be held 12 Noon Wednesday, March 7, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Shelbyville, Tenn., Rev. Cherie Parker officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday at Hillcrest Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until time of Graveside Service. Memorials may be made to Belview United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
