JOHNSON, JOHNNIE LATHAN - of Knoxville, departed this life on Friday, February 9, 2001 at her residence and has gone to glory to be with the Lord. She was a faithful member of Foster Chapel Baptist Church, a graduate of Tennessee A&I State University in Nashville, and was employed by the Atomic Energy Commission as a Statistician in Oak Ridge for 25 years. She was a life member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Preceded in death by her husband, Jack J. Johnson. She leaves to cherish beautiful memories; son, David Johnson; daughters, Jane(Kenneth) Brown and Rose (Charles) Tate of Los Angeles, Calif.; nephew, Robert Childress; niece, Alberta Nelson; sister in law, Elvester Lathan all of Nashville; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends to include the Foster Chapel Baptist Church family. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 13, 2001 from 5-6 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 6 p.m. at Foster Chapel Baptist Church, 4012 Oakland Dr., Knoxville, Tenn. 37918. Rev. R.N. McGee officiating. Entombment, Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at 11 a.m. Highland South cemetery. Arrangements by Unity Mortuary.

KERLEY, LAWRENCE PAUL (BOOGE) - age 84, of Lenoir City, passed away Sunday morning, February 11, 2001 at the Park West Medical Center. Booge was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lenoir City. A retired custodian with Lenoir City schools. A veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army as a mechanical instructor. A 32nd Degree Mason and member of Avery Masonic Lodge #593 F&AM and the Knoxville Shriners. A member of the Assoc. of Antique Cars. He and his dog, Mutt participated in many area parades. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Doss C. and Lou Etta Bolt Kerley; brother, Buster Kerley; sisters, Anges Butcher and Lucille Shubert. He is survived by his wife, Ursa Ballew Kerley; sister, Aldene Wilburn of Lenoir City; niece, Lucinda Ann Jobe of Luxembourg, Europe; nephews, Tommy Shubert and Gary Lynn Ballew both of Lenoir City; best friend, Cotton Morgan of Lenoir City. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City followed by a Masonic service at 8 p.m. conducted by the Avery Masonic Lodge. Friends may call at their convenience at the home of Aldene Wilburn at 133 Pinewood Drive in Lenoir City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Weaver and Rev. Dick DeMerchant officiating. Burial will follow in the Lenoir City cemetery with full military honors conducted by the East Tenn. Veterans Honor Guard. MARSHALL, SARA FOWLER - age 84, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday February 11, 2001. She was a faithful member of Lake Forest Presbyterian Church, a loving wife and mother and an avid bridge player. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Floyd (Biggie) Marshall; parents, W.A. and Anna G. Fowler; and a brother, Arthur Fowler. Survived by daughter, Lynn Pemberton of Knoxville, son and daughter in law, Sam and Martha Marshall of Knoxville; daughter and son in law, Chris and Ray Sanders of Marietta, Ga.; grandchildren, Bob, John, David Pemberton and Lisa Pemberton Darnall, Leslie and Scott Marshall, Marshall and Annie Sanders. KNIGHT, VESTA P. - of Sevierville, born April 25, 1910, passed away Sunday February 11, 2001, at Royal Care Nursing Home in Pigeon Forge. Mrs. Knight is preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Luther Knight, who passed away Thursday February 8, 2001, and her son, Clarence Knight. She is survived by her loving family, daughter & son in law, Clara Mills-Howe and James of Knoxville; sons, Kenneth Knight, William Knight, Jimmy Wayne Knight & wife, Tootie Knight of Sevierville; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends for both Vesta & Luther Knight on Monday February 12, from 1-3 p.m. at Highland South Funeral Home (Chapman Hwy.), with services for Mr. & Mrs. Knight following at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. McAULEY, TINA MARIE (WILSON) - age 37 of Knoxville, formerly of Maynardville passed away 3 p.m. Sunday February 11, 2001 at Ft. Sanders Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Ailor Mortuary, Maynardville.

McCULLEY, JOHNNY RANDOLPH "J.R." - age 66 of Clinton, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2001, at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was a member of the Christian Outreach Assembly of God in Oak Ridge. He was a 1974 graduate of University of Tennessee. He was a United States Navy veteran & Air Force veteran. J.R. was a school teacher in the Anderson County School System for many years and also worked with the Boys Home in Clinton. Preceded in death by parents, Horace Boyd & Thelma Ruth Goodman McCulley; daughter in law, Mary Ruth McCulley. Born December 12, 1934, in Lake City, Tenn. Survivors: wife, Joyce Seeber McCulley of Clinton; sons, Hurshel Lynn McCulley & wife, Darlene of Lake City, John Alan McCulley of Clinton; daughter, Angela "Angel" McCulley of Clinton; sisters, Margie Dugger & husband, John of Briceville, Thelma Quintana Benjin of Virginia. His pride & joy were his grandchildren, Heather, Joshua & Joseph McCulley. RUSSELL, MR. BONNIE IVAN - 89 of Maynardville, passed away Fri., Feb. 9, 2001, at Baptist Hospital. He was born Feb. 1, 1912, in Williamsburg, Ky. & made his home in Harlan County, Ky. until moving to Maynardville, Tenn. in 1951. He was a member of Midway Church of God in Knoxville where he served as Deacon & taught the Adult Sunday School class for many years. He was a gold card member of Bricklayers Allied Craftsmen, Local 5. Preceded in death by parents, Hiram Cleveland & Sarah Alice (Jones) Russell; brothers, Clarence Noble Russell, Lloyd Dewey Russell, Raymond Willard Russell, Arnold Eugene Russell, Rolland Clifford Russell, and Herbert Cleveland Russell; sisters, Leila Ruth Russell & Lena Viola Russell; infant daughter, Mona Lee RusSell; grandson, Brian James Russell. STANDIFER, JAMES GARY - age 55 of Lenoir City, Tenn., formerly of Iron Mountain, MI, passed away suddenly, Saturday evening, February 10, 2001, at Loudon Hospital. Gary was an employee of Lexington Cartage. He was a former member of the Maranatha Assembly of God in Iron Mountain, MI and was active as a leader in the Royal Rangers. STRANGE, DORA ALICE THOMAS - born in Knighton, Wales & formerly of Knoxville, & Bradenton, Fla. passed away Thurs. Feb. 8, 2001 at Pines of Sarasota, Sarasota, Fla., she was 97. Mrs. Strange was a charter member of Suncoast Christian Church Bradenton, Fla. & a former member of Forest Avenue Christian Church of Knoxville. SWAFFORD, RUBY ALICE - of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2001. She was a member Church Street United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star, May Chapter #25. Miss. Swafford was retired from Union Carbide and was preceded in death by her parents, Logan and Addie Swafford; brothers, Hooper, Sanford, Homer and Herbert Swafford and a sister, Willie Bible. Survivors: sisters, Geneva Swafford; Mary and husband, Bob Hembree all of Knoxville, Jamie Kalavski, Belle Air, MD; brother in law, Sam Bible, Summerville, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday 11 a.m. at Berry Chapel with Rev. Cable Trent officiating. Interment icon will follow Tuesday 3:30 p.m. in Spring City cemetery, Spring City, Tenn. WATSON, JOHN D. - age 62 of Corryton, ended his courageous battle with kidney disease at 11:36 a.m. Saturday February 10, 2001 at U.T. Medical Center. Member and Deacon of Little Flat Creek Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran based in Korea for 18 months. John recently retired from KAT where he was a bus driver for 31 years, receiving Driver of the Year in 1988 and 1992. John worked full time for 19 years after the beginning of the kidney disease, even during a five year period of dialysis. His last transplant was August 1, 1987 and the kidney did not fail. His family rejoiced in this miracle from our Lord throughout the 13 years, and John thanked God every morning for a new day and every night that he made it through that day. He witnessed to many people everyday about His Miracle. Survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Judith Clapp Watson of Corryton; and his precious daughter, Karri Watson of Knoxville. He leaves a sister, Thelma Pressnell who donated a kidney to him; brothers, Rosco Watson, Benny Breeding, all of Tazewell, and Bill Parker of Berewyn, Illinois; half sisters, Alma (Dot) Hurt of Royal Oak, Mich. and Ardean Jones of Knoxville; sister in law, and husband, Zola and Frank Smallman of Powell; brother in law, and wife, Danny and Darlene Clapp of Corryton; special nephews, Chris and Parker Pressnell and Rev. Tommy Russell of Tazewell; several other nieces and nephews; special uncles, Cleo Watson and Roy Russell of Tazewell. Funeral services 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stevens Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Wayne Roach and Rev. Tommy Russell officiating. Music for the chapel service will be provided by the Clapp Quartet: Larry, Lynn, Danny, and Barry Clapp and by The Atkins: Gale and Amanda. She was a graduate of The University of Tennessee and a member of Alpha Omicron PL. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Callaway. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Bill Felton of Knoxville, and Jill and Jerry Garrett of Goodlettsville, and by her grandchildren, Beth and Michael Gebhart of Cherry Hill, N.J., John and Elizabeth Salsbery of Knoxville, Glen and Cari Garrett of Goodlettsville, and Todd and Christie Moore of Franklin, Tenn; sister, Frances Christrup. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2001, at St. John's Cathedral with the very Reverend John C. Ross officiating.
