Frimel, Otto J., age 84, of Knoxville, formerly of Odin, Illinois, passed from this life into life everlasting on Friday, May 14, 2004. He was retired as a Master Sergeant with United States Air Force having served during World War II and the Korean War. He was also an Illinois State Trooper. He was a longtime member and elder of First Christian Church of Odin, Illinois and also a member of West Towne Christian Church in Knoxville. He was Past Master of Odin Lodge 503, AF&AM and member of Scottish Rite and Ansar Shrine. He was preceded in death by parents and brothers and sisters.

April 13, 1962, originally of Westville, NJ, but a resident of East Tennessee since 1993 and Blount County since 1998, went home to be with the Lord from Blount Memorial Hospital on July 19, 2004, after complications from many long battles with a terminal illness, which we are happy to proclaim Jesus has finally won the victory over Tom’s war with this disease and this Faithful servant is now at home resting in peace with his Father, as promised in 1999 when Tom’s journey first began. Upon graduation in 1980 from Gateway High School in Westville, NJ, Tom went on to serve 4 years in the USAF as a Food Service Specialist. Tom was a member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN as well as the Tennessee State Guard out of Knoxville, TN. He also dedicated his time as a volunteer in the ICU waiting room at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, TN. At the time Tom was called home he was a disabled veteran and faithful servant, as well as a devoted Husband, Father, and Gampa. He was welcomed home by his mother Lucy Shipley Polk and father, Thomas Howard Polk, Sr.

Loving wife, Charla Polk; caring children Gregg, Jimmy, Darrell, Joseph, Crissy, Sarah, and Dana; two grandbabies, Jonathan and Autumn; two brothers, Joseph and Ken; sisters-in-law, Lisa and Dorothy; nieces Rebecca, Catherine, and Aurora; nephew Anthony; Godchild Brittnee; as well as survived by a support system of very dear close friends from the community and from states and countries all around (some of which we don’t even know) that have continued to keep prayers for him and his family flowing for many years and have been much appreciated, felt, heard, and honored by God our Father.

A celebration and Testimony service will be held Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM at Sevier Heights Baptist Church, Alcoa Highway. Friends and family who would like to rejoice along with the family about Tom’s home coming may do so from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM. Graveside Burial for immediate family and close friends will be Monday morning at 11:30 am at the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, Knoxville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Tom to the Blount Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, 9087 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804. The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the staff at both Blount Memorial Hospital and Morning View Transitional Care Center for all the tender loving care they showed Tom while he was in their care over the past years. Courtney, Ted Edington, age 73, life-long resident of Knoxville, died Saturday, July 24, 2004 at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX with his family present. He was born
September 25, 1930 in Loudon, TN; graduated from Greenback High School; served 10 years in the United States Air Force, and retired as Operations Manager with Greyhound Bus Lines. His home was Knoxville where he raised his sons, golfed with buddies, and pulled for the Vols. He is preceded in death by wife, Jo Ann Mounce Courtney; parents, Joe Allison and Pearl Lane Courtney; brothers, Joe Courtney, Maurice Courtney, Kenneth Courtney, Bernard Courtney, and John Lee Hughes; sister Juanita Courtney.

Two sons and their spouses: Mark and Sharon Courtney, and Barry and Linette Courtney; grandson Joseph Austin Courtney; granddaughter Rachael Meyer; brothers and their spouses: Pat and Peggy Courtney, Frank and Betty Hughes; sisters: Margaret Courtney Smith, Katherine Hughes Hudson; special niece Dolly; numerous other loving relatives. Ted will be sorely missed by those who love him for his wit, kindness, zest for life, and for himself. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving three years and twenty-one days in the South Pacific receiving many commendations including the Purple Heart.
