He was a member of Trinity Chapel in Knoxville. He retired from Coca-Cola Foods Division and Anderson Food Brokers. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during World War II. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sue Craft Woolwine; parents, Percy O. and Lura Higby Woolwine.

Kennedy, III, Lawrence T. (Nick), passed away suddenly Sunday afternoon, May 23, 2004 from complications of epilepsy. Preceded in death by brother, Michael Allen Kennedy.

He is survived by his loving family including father and stepmother, Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence T. Kennedy, Jr.; his mother and stepfather, Ludell N. and H. Dean Coffey; brothers, B. Neill Kennedy and Phillip B. Kennedy; sister, Jennie Kennedy Tate; brother-in-law, Al B. Tate; niece, Caitlyn Elizabeth Tate; nephew, Zachary Allen Tate; fiancée, Kathy Ratliff; many good friends including Brian Harding, Walter Burnett, Delmar Browning, Carol Ricker, and Melanie Johnson. He is also survived by his special canine companions, Mr. Barley, Rooney, Mad Dog, and Raisin. Nick was a talented artist and had a special gift for meeting people. Nick never met a stranger. He handled life’s curve with grace and good humor.

Booher, Woodrow W., age 87, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday morning, May 23, 2004 at Cleveland Care & Rehabilitation Center. He was the son of the late John and Martha Booher. Also preceded in death by three brothers, Herman, Ray and Jay; two sisters, Emma and Nina. He was a ceramic tile contractor in Tennessee, Florida and Georgia.

Three sisters, Maddie Wade and Blanch Traugott of Knoxville, and Reva Edis of Florida; one brother, Harvey Booher of Cleveland, TN; several nieces and nephews.

Haynes, Mr. William Kenneth (Ken), age 86, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, May 24, 2004 at his home. He was born
in Knoxville on March 12, 1918 to parents, Myrtle Cruze Haynes and William Henry Haynes. He was married to Beth White Haynes who died in 1996. He attended Knoxville Catholic High School and Knoxville Business College. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Mr. Haynes was a devoted father of five children; grandfather of 11; and great-grandfather of 4. He was a retired manufacturer’s representative and an avid University of Tennessee sports fan.

He will be greatly missed by daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Steve Lucking, Sheila and Larry Rauen, Cindy and Roger Dunn, and Beth and George Walker; son, Kenneth M. Haynes and his special friend Grace Dadoyan. Also survived by siblings, Virginia Ezell, Richard, Randall and Eugene Haynes. The family wishes to thank St. Mary’s Hospice and Mrs. Mattie Lyons for their kindness and support.

Howard, Alpha Day, age 77, of Knoxville, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital. She was a native of Johnson City, Tennessee and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Harvey Day of that city. Beloved wife of Dr. Herbert H. Howard, UT professor emeritus, Mrs. Howard was a faithful member and past elder at Graystone Presbyterian Church, where she served two terms as Clerk of Session. She was a member and officer at Graystone’s Presbyterian Women’s Association and was a member and former president of the OptiMrs Club of South Knoxville. A member of the Montgomery Village Task Force, she was active in the development of the Montgomery Village Ministry. Member of the UT Faculty Women’s Club. Mrs. Howard attended Columbia (SC) Bible College and earned the BS degree from ETSU and MS from the University of Tennessee. Mrs. Howard taught high school English and Spanish in Clinton and Johnson City (Science Hill High School) and at Hillsborough, North Carolina, before coming to Knoxville in 1959. She taught at South High School, Knoxville, from 1959-1968. Her other interests included attending operas and dramatic performances, as well as traveling. She had visited 49 of the 50 states, plus Canada, Cuba and several European countries. She is also preceded in death by brothers, Luster, Tasker, Monroe, Edison and George.

Husband of 47 years, Dr. Herbert H. Howard; son and daughter-in-law, Jody and Dennise Howard; infant granddaughter, Emma Laura Howard of Powell, Tennessee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Garnett and June Day of Johnson City, Charles and Rebecca Day of Abingdon, Virginia, Frank and Ruth Day of Clifton Park, New York; sisters, Ruth Rickman, Vivian Kelley and Jessie Day, all of Johnson City; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many devoted neighbors, former students, dear friends, and caregiver, Virginia Yarber of Knoxville.

KELLY, MARDEE C. AGE 82, OF Knoxville, departed this life after a lengthy illness on Monday, June 7, 2004 at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a former resident of Meadowview, Virginia, and belonged to Mahanaim United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas King Kelly, and her granddaughter, Caitlyn Cerny.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory: daughter and son-in-law, TK and Terry Barnett of Meadowview, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Chuck Cerny of Knoxville; grandchildren, Justen Kelly Dick and wife Sarah Seeley Dick of Pikeville, KY, Lindsay Kelly Farris and Charles Anthony Cerny, III, both of Knoxville; sister, Jacqueline Spencer of Bradenton, Fl and sever nieces and a nephew. She served as a seaman in US Navy and will be sadly missed by many friends in Virginia, Knoxville, and Chattanooga. She was an avid gardener, and loved working with flowers.
