Roxie McMillan, of Parrottsville, passed away March 3 at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Martha Alice Gause
Died: 08/26/1998
Martha Alice Gause, 78, of Newport, passed away Saturday evening at the Baptist Convalescent Center following a lengthy illness.

She attended the Maple Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Marvin Gause.

She is survived by a daughter, Annette, and her husband, O.L. Suggs of Cosby; sisters, Ethel Williamson of Del Rio, Lola Seay of Knoxville, and Vera Shelton of Johnson City; brother, Jim, and his wife, Nina Hill of Brunswick, Ohio; grandchildren, Eugene Gorrell and his wife, Donna, and Debbie Holt and her husband, Gary, both of Newport, and Kimberly Clevenger and her husband, Bobby, of Spring Hill; five great-grandchildren; special aunts, Orpha Price of Del Rio and Laura Hensley of Newport; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Brown Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wayne Haney and Rev. Junior Gorrell officiating. Entombment was in the Resthaven Memorial Mausoleum.

The family received friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday evening at the Brown Funeral Home.

John B. Lewis
Died: 02/29/2000
Mr. Lewis was a native of Newport, Tennessee, and had lived in Albany, Georgia, since 1972. He was a retired senior master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force where he was a veteran of Korea and Viet Nam. He had also been employed in Civil Service at the Marine Corps Logistics Base. Mr. Lewis was a member of Morningside United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #708, the Hasan Shrine Temple and the Legion of Honor. He was a member and charter president of the Air Force Sergeants Association where he had served as vice-president of the Georgia Air Force Sergeants Association. Mr. Lewis had been a member of the American Legion Post 30, the V.F.W. and the South East Seniors Golf Association.

Survivors include his wife, Amy Lewis of Albany, Georgia; sons, Col. John Timothy Lewis of Waldorf, Maryland, and Tommy Lewis of Tallahassee, Florida; daughter, Linda Brown of Burnsville, North Carolina; brothers, Jeff Lewis, Payton Lewis, and Bill Lewis, all of Newport, Tennessee; sisters, Cora Lewis and Betty Martin, both of Newport, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and mother-in-law, Alice Perrin of Albany, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hall & Hall Chapel with Dr. Jeri Pruette officiating. Interment icon will follow in Floral Memory Gardens with masonic rites and full military honors.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1101 North Lake Destiny Rd., Suite 415, Maitland, FL 32751-7101.

James Cleve Baxter
Died: 02/29/2000
James Cleve Baxter, 75, of Newport, died suddenly Tuesday at his home.

He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alec Baxter.

Survivors include his daughter, Gail Ailey of Newport; cousins, Essie Mae Lindsey and Helen Sutton of Cosby and Shelby Swimm of Morristown; aunt, Bonnie Talley of Texas; grandchildren, Rena Bradley, Jonathan Ailey and Kelly Ailey of Newport; great-grandson, Kaleb Bradley of Newport; also several other cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 8 p.m. at the Manes Funeral Home - West Chapel, with the Rev. Fred Gregg officiating.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Ogle Chapel cemetery with Lance Corporal Charles Roberts D.A.V. Chapter #102 officiating.

Manes Funeral Home is in charge.

Eva Jane McGaha
Died: 02/26/2000
Eva Jane McGaha, 84, of Newport, passed away Saturday, February 26, in Morristown.

Eva was a homemaker and a member of Lincoln Avenue Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas McGaha; parents, Charlie and Perley (Ramsey) Gilland; two sons, Charles and Dallas McGaha; one daughter; one sister, Trula Pope; and three brothers, Bert, Stanley and Junior Gilland.

Eva is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law, Emma and Harry Bacon of Morristown and Rachel and Carl Bugg of Newport; one brother, Ona Gilland of Newport; one sister, Sarah Wardroup of Newport; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Sunday, February 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Brown Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service followed at 8 p.m.

Graveside service was 10 a.m. Monday in Union cemetery. Rev. Charles Norton officiated.

Brown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Douglas Reeves
Died: 02/24/2000
Douglas Reeves, 63, of Cosby, passed away Thursday evening at Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.

Annie Peggy Fox
Died: 02/24/2000
Annie L. (Peggy) Fox, 57, of Newport, passed away at her home on Thursday, February 24.

She is survived by her mother, Bessie Grooms Fox and her father, Hugh Fox, both of Newport; children, Chuck, Fred and Mark Clark, all of New Jersey, Charlotte Putnam of North Carolina, Scott Samples of California, P.J. Cody of Sevierville, Timothy (Allen) Cody of Newport, and Mack (Bo) Ellison of Bulls Gap; sisters, Dorothy James and June Grooms, both of Newport; brothers, James (Buck) Fox and Charles (Bootsy) Fox, all of Newport, Roy Fox of Morristown, and Clareance Fox of Newport; 10 grandchildren; 14 nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lynn Henry officiating, with burial at 11 a.m. Sunday at the James cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday at Manes Funeral Home.

Minnie Fowler Whittington
Died: 02/25/2000
Mrs. Minnie Fowler Whittington, 79, of 132 Forest Heights Dr., McAdenville, North Carolina, died Thursday, February 24, at Brian Health Care Center in Gastonia, North Carolina.

She was born in Dandridge, Jefferson County, Tennessee, on February 21, 1921, a daughter of the late William Jackson and Kate Allen Fowler. Mrs. Whittington was retired from Pharr Yarns and was a member of McAdenville Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Whittington; a brother, J.W. Fowler; and a sister, Sarah Shelton.

Survivors include four sisters, Elizabeth Pate, Addie Fowler, and Nan Burgess, all of McAdenville, North Carolina, and Betty Alexander, Spencer Mountain, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 26, at Carothers Coloniel Chapel, Gastonia, North Carolina, with the Rev. Andy Raines officiating and burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday, February 25, at the funeral home from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and at other times at the home.

Memorials should be made to McAdenville Baptist Church, Lowell-McAdenville Rd., McAdenville, N.C. 28101.

Minnie Faye Henry
Died: 02/25/2000
Minnie Faye Henry, 74, of Sevierville, died February 23, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Henry; son, Jimmy Lee Henry; brothers, Houston, Ross and Doc Douglas; and sisters, Bernice Loveday, Willie Hux, and Sally Douglas.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Sammy and Jo Ann Henry, Tommy and Johnnie Henry, and Bill and Donna Henry; daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Donnie Reed; and brother, Dayton Douglas, all of Sevierville; grandson, Jeff Henry; grandchildren and their spouses, Jimmy and Amy Henry, Mike and Laura Henry, Tracy and Robert McCormack, Kristy and Teddy Jones, and Tina and Jim Clabo; and granddaughter, Dana Reed; step-grandchildren and their spouses, Jama and Johnny Morris and Amanda and Brian Sands; 11 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Gene, Ann, Thelma and Ailene, all residents of Woodland Park.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dwayne White and Rev. Al Smith officiating, with burial graveside at 11 a.m. Saturday at Union cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday prior to the funeral at Manes Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Henry, Jimmy Henry, Mike Henry, Jim Clabo, Robert McCormack, and Terry Jones.

Manes Funeral Home is in charge.
