John R. Alford

John R. Alford, age 93, of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away at the Tennessee State Veteran's Home on April 1, 2007.

He was a native and life long resident of Rutherford County.

He retired from the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center after 29 years of service.

He was a U.S. Army, WWII Veteran and a member of the Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his wife the late Effie Burnett Alford, in 1973.

He is also preceded in death by his parents, the late Thomas Jefferson and Beedie Henard Alford, and his wife the late Effie Burnett Alford, in 1973.

He is survived by a step daughter-in-law, Glenna Thomas, along with several nieces and nephews, and five step grandchildren.

A chapel service will be held on Wednesday April 4, at 11:00 A.M. at Jennings and Ayers, with Frank Neal and Billy Cole officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 3, from 4 to 8 P.M.

Gladys Williams Adams

Gladys Williams Adams, age 68 of Smyrna, passed away Friday August 4, 2006 at her residence.

A native and life long resident of Rutherford County, she was a former employee of Air Equipment Company and Franklin Laundry and Cleaners.

She was a member of the Pentecostal Church and a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her husband, James Ray Adams, her parents, Houston and Meady Sullivan Williams, daughter, Mary Ann Agent and brothers, Willie Lee Williams and Clarence Williams.

She is survived by her sons, Bobby Adams, John (Darlene) Adams and Jeff (Kris) Adams all of Smyrna; grandchildren, Becky Agent, Melissa Agent, Gary Agent, Jr., Heather Duvall, Dawn Duvall and Jonathan Ray Adams; great-grandchildren, Dylan Scott Duvall, Carese Alexander, Xylia Alexander and Ryan Thacker; brother, Joe Williams of Murfreesboro.

Funeral service will be 6:00 p.m. Saturday, August 5, 2006 at Jennings and Ayers Chapel with Pastor Kevin Blackburn officiating.

Visitation with the family will be 2:00 pm. until service time Saturday at Jennings and Ayers, 820 S. Church St. Murfreesboro, TN 37130.

Vance Akin III

Vance Akin III, age 69, passed away at his residence on Sunday January 27, 2008.

He was a native of Williamson County. He served in the United States Air Force.

He was a graduate from Battle Ground Academy and Middle Tennessee State University.

Vance Attended World Outreach Church and he was employed by Middle Tennessee State University.

He is preceded in death by his parents Robert Vance Akin Jr. and Cornelia Williams Akin.

He is survived by cousins; Beverly Davis, and Rachel Still, and close friend Dorothy Smith Wade.

Services for Vance will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday January 31, 2008 at Jennings and Ayers Chapel.

Burial will follow at Mt Hope cemetery Franklin, TN with Rev. George Jackson officiating.

Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday January 30, 2008 at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home. 820 S. Church St. 615-893-2422

Fred Armstrong

Fred Armstrong, age 82, of Nashville passed away, Thursday March 29, 2007 at Briley Nursing and Rehab Center.

A native and life long resident of Murfreesboro, he was a self employed mechanic and a member or the Baptist Church.

Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by his parents, Aurice Armstrong and Abbie Jernigan Armstrong Taylor.

He is survived by sister, Edith Lamb: half brother, Acie Taylor; half sisters, Robbie Daniel and Gracie Hopkins all of Murfreesboro and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for Mr. Armstrong will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2007, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Dr. Lenny Farmer officiating.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation with the family will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Jennings and Ayers, 820 S. Church St. Murfreesboro, TN

Lorri Kay Alexander

Lorri Kay Alexander, age 48 of Murfreesboro passed away, Wednesday, February 7, 2006 at Williamson Medical Center.

A native of Royal Oak, Michigan but had live in Rutherford County for several years and was a member of the Methodist Church.

Lorri was a caretaker and was loved by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Georgia Ray Alexander and Judy Roach.

She is survived by her sisters; Ginny Hilliard and James Bolin of Murfreesoro, Teresa Pope and Karen Dorris; brothers Jerry Alexander and Horace Jackson Alexander, Jr.

She is also survived by Misty and Timmy Martin, Preston, Christian and Bishop Martin, Rebecca Pickering, Michael Hilliard and B. J. Hilliard.

A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Mapleview cemetery in Smyrna with Fred Harper officiating.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation with the family will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Jennings and Ayers, 820 S. Church St. Murfreesboro, TN

Natlin Janis Baker Allen

Natlin Janis Baker Allen – age 85, passed away Monday April 7, 2008 at National Health Care.

She was a native of Clinton, Iowa and lived in Rutherford County for the past 11 years.

Mrs. Allen was also a member of Smyrna Church of Christ.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Ivo Allen; parents, Lou Assmus and Edna Elizabeth Widdrick Baker; one brother, Minard Lou Baker.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Melissa Allen of Nashville and Deborah Lynn (Sammy) Hill of Alabastor, AL; and three grandchildren, Brian (Rhonda) Mason, Sam Mason and Melissa (Anthony) Morgan.

Services for Mrs. Allen will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Jennings & Ayers Chapel with Rick Chambless officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mount Hope cemetery, Franklin, TN.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home, 820 S. Church St., Murfreesboro, TN. 37130 (615) 893-2422.

Sally Ann Mathis Affholter

Sally Ann Mathis Affholter, age 56 of Woodbury, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008 at her residence after an extended illness.

A native of Woodbury, she lived most of her life in Rutherford County.

She was a former employee of the 1st Stop Market in Woodbury.

Mrs. Affholter was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Octa Mears Mathis; a daughter, Tracy Michelle Affholter; brother, Bobby Mathis and a sister, Glendola Mathis.

She is survived by a daughter, Rachel Affholter of Woodbury; brothers, Jimmy (Dianne) Mathis; Paul (Angie) Mathis, Mylan (Dean) Mathis, Elvis Mathis and Jesse (Juanita) Mathis; sister, Rachel (Bobby) Reed.

Funeral service for Mrs. Affholter will be 2:00 Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Jennings and Ayers chapel with Bro. Herb Alsup officiating.

Burial will follow in Center Hill cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation with the family will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Jennings and Ayers, 820 S. Church St., Murfreesboro, TN

Leslie Earn Anderson

Leslie Earn Anderson, age 59 of Murfreesboro, passed away Friday, January 12, 2007 at his residence.

A native and life long resident of Rutherford County, he was an employee of the City of Murfreesboro.

Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Earn and Martha Lillian Landers Anderson and a son, John Robert Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Williams Anderson of Murfreesboro; daughter, Betty Jean Anderson LaCross of Phoenix, Arizona; sisters, Juanice Elaine Hall and Janice K. Hall both of Murfeesboro; nephews, James Kevin Jennings and Jeffrey Hall both of Murfreesboro and two grandchildren.

Funeral service for Mr. Anderson will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Jennings and Ayers Chapel with Bro. Steve Pendergrast officiating.

Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Alice M. Ashford

Alice M. Ashford, age 56 of Christiana, passed away Friday, January 19, 2007 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.

A native and life long resident of Murfreesboro she was a member of Church of Jesus Christ in Smithville and a homemaker.

Mrs. Ashford was preceded in death by her parents, James and Marie Garrett Lester.

She is survived by her husband Johnny Calvin Ashford of Christiana; son Johnny Kevin (Elizabeth) Ashford of Murfreesboro; daughter, Mary (Terry) Arthur of McMinnville; brothers, William (Mary) Lester, Kenneth (Shirley) Lester, Barry (Madlyn) Lester, Roger (Linda) Lester, Robert (Wytona) Lester, Jimmy (Toni) Lester, Richard (Ann) Lester, Felix (Kathy) Lester, Gary (Peggy) Lester, Steve Lester and Michael Lester; sisters, Judy Manning and Darlene Lester; grandchildren, James, Cody, Michael and Anthony Ashford, Tyler Arthur and Holly Arthur..

Funeral service for Mrs. Ashford will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2007 at Jennings and Ayers Chapel with Bro. Shonnie Sanders and Bro. Johnny Smartt.

Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery. Family will serve as pallbearers.

Marie Summar Alsup

Marie Summar Alsup, age 86 of Murfreesboro, passed away Tuesday October 23, 2007 at Alive Hospice Skyline Madison.

A native of Cannon County, she lived most of her life in Rutherford County.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Alsup was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Ernest Alsup; her parents, Thomas Hall and Mina McBroom Summar; son, James Philip Alsup; brothers, Kenneth, Lindsay, Mac, Bernice, White, John, Carl and Pete Summar; sisters, Alma Vaughn, Evalee McCollum, Drue Phillips and Cornelia Perry.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Janice Alsup Fitzhugh and Mike of Murfreesboro, Bonnie Alsup Richardson and Kim of Franklin; ; daughter-in-law, Janie Alsup; grandchildren, Phil (Vicki) Alsup, Kim (John) Smith, Bart (Bistany) Bass, Brad (Claire) Bass, Beth (Cannon) Loughry, Amy Richardson and Emily (Brian) Kirk; great-grandchildren, Siena, Paris and Zack Alsup, Lauren Smith, John Bass, Chase, Brady, Andy and Abby Loughry.

Funeral service for Mrs. Alsup will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2007 at Jennings and Ayers Chapel with Dr. Mark Gregory and Dr. Philip Alsup officiating.

Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Family will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro.

Visitation with the family will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Jennings and Ayers, 820 S. Church St. Murfreesboro, TN

Fred C. Arnold

Fred C. Arnold, age 86 of Murfreesboro, passed away Wednesday September 20, 2006 at his residence.

A native and life long resident of Rutherford County, he was a farmer, a member of the Big Springs Baptist Church and a U. S. Army veteran having served in WWII.

Mr. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Mattie Sue Fults Arnold and a son, James David Arnold.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Agee Arnold of Murfreesboro; brother, Kirby Arnold of Murfreesboro and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Mr. Arnold will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 22, 2006 at Jennings and Ayers Chapel with Rev. Morris Broyles officiating.

Burial will follow in Chadwick cemetery in Beech Grove.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation with the family will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Jennings and Ayers, 820 S. Church St. Murfreesboro, TN
