Bertha Rains

Services for Mrs. Bertha Novella Sadler Rains, 91, of 10689 Jim Cummings Highway in Bradyville, who died Friday, May 22, of an extended illness, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Woodbury Funeral Home followed by burial in Midway cemetery. Odell Powell and Lemuel Underhill will officiate.

Mrs. Rains was a native of Cannon County and was the daughter of the late Ranson Sadler and Alice Lemons Sadler. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Homer Rains, and a grandson, Tommy Rains.

She is survived by three sons, Roy, Clark and Ray Rains, all of Woodbury; two daughters, Thelma Rains of Nashville, and Cora Jean Duke of Coffee County; a brother, Hoyte Sadler of Salem, Okla.; 11 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Rains was a member of the Smith Grove Church of Christ. She was retired from the Colonial Corp., and was a homemaker.

Visitation with the family will be held after 3 p.m. today at Woodbury Funeral Home.

Harold Ray White

Services for Mr. Harold Ray White, 73, who died Monday, May 18, at the Charlton-Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas, were held Friday at J.E. Keever Mortuary in Ennis, Texas, followed by burial in the Rice cemetery, with the Rev. Eugene Lowe officiating.

Mr. White was a native of St. Albens, W. Va., and was the son of John and Mary Hobbs White.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie, of Wilmer, Texas; four sons, Marty White of Murfreesboro, Wyatt A. White of Palm Bay, Fla., Jeffery White of Grant, Fla., and James A. Dodson of Wilmer; a daughter, Cindy Mitchell of Ennis; four sisters, Virginia Rathke and Christine Martin, both of Charleston, W.Va., and Ethel Beavert of Liberty Hill, Texas; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. White was raised and attended school in St. Albens. After finishing school he entered the U.S. Army in the Combat Engineers, and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and the Korean War. He was the retired owner/operator for Allied Van Lines, a member of the Ennis American Legion and the First Baptist Church in Wilmer.

Mark Henry Williams

Services for Mark Henry Williams, 26, Baltimore, Md., who died of an asthma attack Sunday, Jan. 25, in Baltimore, were held Friday, Jan. 30, at March Funeral Home-West, in Baltimore.

He was a former resident of Murfreesboro where he had lived with his maternal grandmother, Mildred Muse.

Other survivors include his parents, Drs. Henry and Juanita Williams of Baltimore; two brothers, Matthew Williams, Michael Williams, both of Baltimore; and sister, Leslie Johnson of Charlotte, N.C.

David Cornette

Services for David Cornette, 35, Murfreesboro, who died Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center, are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. David Clark and Jeff Etheridge will officiate.

He is survived by his parents, Larry Cornette of Nashville, and Sue Wilson Clark of Murfreesboro; wife, Susan Cornette; two daughters, Jennifer Cornette of Murfreesboro, Lindsay Cornette of Norene; son, David Ryan Cornette of Norene; and brother, John Patrick Clark of Murfreesboro.

He was a member of Stones River Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held from 6-9 tonight at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.

John D. Johnson

Services for John Douglas Johnson, 80, of Wisconsin but formerly of Smyrna, who died Saturday, Feb. 14, at Cedar Springs Nursing Home in Cedarburg, Wisc., are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Nashville, with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

A native of Davidson County, his parents were the late Hillman and Grace Powell Johnson.

A member of the Baptist church, he was a retired radio and television repairman for 20 years with Curreys TV.

Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna, is in charge of arrangements.
Feb. 19, 1998

Sanford Murray

Services for Sanford "Hamp" Murray, 62, Franklin, who died Monday, Feb. 16, at Claiborne Hughes Health Care, are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Baxter Brothers Funeral Home, Columbia, with burial in Spring Hill cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Murray of Shelbyville; mother, Henrietta Greene of Tullahoma; sister, Alberta Lester Biggers of Eagleville; and brother, Richard Murray of Shelbyville.

Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Frances Hall Thomas

Graveside services for Frances Hall Thomas, 75, Panama City, Fla., who died Monday, Feb. 16, after an extended illness, are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Kent Forrest Lawn Funeral Home in Panama City.

She is survived by her husband, Roy J. Thomas; son, Roy J. Thomas Jr. of Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Haywood Hall, James Hall, and Loyd Hall of Murfreesboro; three sisters, Ann Morris of Nashville, Bobbie Jean of Loretta, Gail Glover of Murfreesboro; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She had attended schools at Halls Hill Pike and Kittrell.

William T. Steiner

Services for Mr. William Taylor Steiner, 60, of Estill Springs, who died Thursday at St. Thomas Hospital are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Bell Buckle, followed by burial in Hazel cemetery.

Mr. Steiner was a native of Bell Buckle. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sherry Steiner; his father, William Barnett Steiner of Bell Buckle; two daughters, Connie Lucretia Porter of Murfreesboro, and Deborah Williams of Nashville; a son, Steven Barnett Steiner of Cleveland; and a sister, Mary George of Valdosta, Ga.

Mr. Steiner was a foreman at the George Dickel Distillery. Visitation will be held from 3:30-7 p.m. at Watson-Gamble Chapel in Winchester.

Walter Bucher

Services for Mr. Walter Bucher, 81, of Smyrna, who died Friday morning at the Tennessee Veterans Home are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna, followed by burial in Mapleview cemetery, with the Rev. Milton Hicks officiating.

Mr. Bucher was a native of Waynesville, Mo., and was the son of the late Albert and Myrtle Bucher. He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Turnbaugh of Springville, Ala.; and by three grandchildren, Tommy Williams, Cynthia Turnbaugh and Kimberly Turnbaugh; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bucher was retired from the U.S. Army, having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the Metro Nashville Airport Authority.

Visitation with the family will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna.

Zenobia S. Lewis

Services for Mrs. Zenobia Ellen Snyder Lewis, 92, of Scotland Drive, who died Friday at Northside Health Care Center are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, followed by burial in Evergreen cemetery, with the Rev. David Brabender officiating.

Mrs. Lewis was a native of Indiana, and the daughter of the late Lee and Rose Manring Snyder.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Silk of Murfreesboro; a sister, Margaret Serio of Joliet, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lewis was married to the late Joseph Lewis, who died in 1993. She was preceded in death by a son, James Lewis and a daughter, Virginia Seabold.

She was a member of the Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.

Mary Neely Sanders

Services for Mrs. Mary Neely Sanders, 97, who died Thursday at Peachtree Nursing Center are set for 1 p.m. Monday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, followed by burial in Roselawn cemetery, with the Rev. John Casey officiating.

A native of Rutherford County, Mrs. Sanders was the daughter of the late John and Dora Wrather Neely. She was married to the late Benjamin Franklin Sanders, and preceded in death by two sons, Ernest Franklin and Charles Ray Sanders.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Nancy Sanders Loyd; three grandchildren, Janet Sanders Cunningham of Donelson, and Christine Sanders Slate and Wally Miller, both of Murfreesboro; seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sanders was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Murfreesboro Art League and Homemakers Club.

Visitation with the family will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.

Mary Davenport

Services for Mrs. Mary Davenport, 82, of Smyrna, who died Wednesday at Middle Tennessee Medical Center are scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna, followed by burial in Mapleview cemetery.

Mrs. Davenport was a native of Rutherford County and the daughter of the late Joe and Rosie Goins Warrick. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Roy Davenport, and a son, Roy Davenport Jr.

She is survived by a son, John Davenport of Lanett, Ala.; three daughters, Mary Marie Helmick of York, Pa., Kitty Horskins of Smyrna, and Billie Horskins of Murfreesboro; a brother, Johnny Warrick of La Vergne; seven grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Davenport was a member of the Division Street Church of Christ and was a homemaker.

Agnes Nichols

Services for Mrs. Agnes Faye Thomas Nichols, 63, of Hampshire, who died Friday, Feb. 20, at Williamson County Memorial Hospital of an extended illness, will be held Monday at noon at Woodbury Funeral Home with Odell Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View cemetery.

A native of Cannon County, she was the daughter of the late Shelah and Amby Gerdellia Youngblood Thomas. Her husband was the late James Hubert Nichols.

She is survived by a son, James T. Nichols of Hampshire; one daughter, Kathy Nichols Coleman of Hampshire; two brothers, Arlis Thomas of Woodbury and Allen Thomas of Forest, Miss.; three sisters, Mazel Hughes of McMinnville, Nadine Harmon of Woodbury and Thelma Hicks of Nashville; and one grandson.

Mrs. Nichols was a retired psychiatric technician with Middle Tennessee Mental Health Center.

Visitation with the family will be today from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Alvin Bellenfant

Services for Alvin G. Bellenfant, 62, of Nashville, who died Friday, Feb. 20, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home, 2707 Gallatin Road, with the Rev. Tim Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Bellenfant; parents, John and Flora Bellenfant of Murfreesboro; daughter, Cindy Smith of La Vergne; step-son, David Easley of Nashville; step-daughters, Judy Howard, Brenda Roberts and Michelle Bradford, all of Huntsville, Ala., Carolyn Dyce, Debbie and Karen Easley, all of Nashville; two grandsons and eleven step-grandchildren.

Mr. Bellenfant was retired from Metro Nashville Public Works Department with more than 37 years of service. He was a member of Owens Hill Lodge No. 172 F&AM and was a Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Al Menah Shrine Temple.

Visitation with the family is today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Phillips-Robinson. Masonic service will be today at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Loreta Brown

Services for Mrs. Loreta Burr Riddle Brown, 83, of Antioch, who died of cancer Saturday, Feb. 21, at National HealthCare in Nashville, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home with Norman Slate officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

A native of Warren County, she was the daughter of the late William Burr Riddle and Martha Lucinda Brown Riddle. Her husband was the late George Gilbert Brown.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth Dale Brown of Antioch; three daughters, Bonnie Joyce Brown Hart of Memphis, Verna Lois Brown Casey of Millersburg, Ohio, and Emma Jean Brown Robinson of Charleroi, Pa.; three sisters, Alice Jarrell of Manchester, Grace Walkup of Memphis, and Evelyn Witty of Woodbury; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Brown was a former employee of White Stag of Murfreesboro. She later retired as a nursing assistant at Boulevard Terrace Nursing Center. She was a member of Madison Church of Christ.

Visitation with the family will be after 4 p.m. Monday.
