Carlos John King, 65, of Athens, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at his home.
A lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Joe and Ruby Jones King, and was preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie King. He was of the Baptist faith, was a member of Union Local 846 of Chattanooga, a cattle trader and a former avid bowler.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Peggy Kyle King of Athens; one daughter, Sheri Stewart of Athens; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Tamara King of Riceville, and Johnny and Cristy King of Athens; five grandchildren, Joshua Stewart of Athens, Justin Stewart of Niota, Alyssa King and Calli King, both of Athens, and Jared King of Riceville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice and Roy Leamon and Vicky and James Wright, all of Riceville; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, twin brother Carl and Veronica King, the Rev. Garry and Shirley King, Larry King and Faye King, all of Riceville; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at McMinn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Garry King officiating.
Pallbearers will be Joe King, Michael King, Carl King Sr., David Leamon, Rick King and Stacey King.

Christopher Edward Rue
Chris E. Rue, 43, of Athens, died Wednesday morning, April 19, 2006, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Jesse Maynard Rue, and was preceded in death by one sister, Nancy Moore.
Survivors include his mother, Viola Doris Yarbrough Rue of Athens; one brother, Paul Lewis Rue of Athens; two sisters, Ann Simpson of Athens, and Margie Yarbrough of Etowah; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at McMinn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Rob Davis officiating.

Leona Ferris Ritchie, 83, of Athens, died Monday, June 5, 2006, at her son´s home in Calhoun, Ga.

Jack R. Conner
Jack R. Conner, 75, of Englewood, died early Monday morning, June 5, 2006, at Woods Memorial Hospital.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College and was retired from Bowater Southern Paper Corporation. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War, and was a son of the late John and Sallie Zimmerman Conner. He was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by one son, Jack Byron Conner; one daughter, Yvonne Marie Bryant; and one brother, Paul R. Conner.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Davis Conner of Englewood; five sons and two daughters-in-law, Jack Edward Bryant of Green River, Wyo., Johnny and Jan Haun and Joe and Nikki Conner, all of Etowah, Tony Ray Haun of Englewood, and Terry Wayne Haun of Jamestown; 10 grandchildren, Shanna Crabtree, Drew Haun, Seth Haun, Josh Haun, Sydney Conner, Joshua Felker, T.J. Haun, Cullen Conner, Camden Jones and Dustin Conner; four great-grandchildren; two nieces, Amy and Lisa Conner; one sister-in-law, Linda Conner of Rice Lake, Wis.; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Tuesday in the south chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Shaun King and the Rev. Dewey Feezell officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday and will proceed to McMinn Memory Gardens for the 9 a.m. burial.
Rex Runyon, sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Beatrice “Bea” Cagle Ratledge
Beatrice “Bea” Cagle Ratledge, 90, of Niota, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, following a lengthy illness.
A daughter of the late Paul and Louie Cagle, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Ratledge; three stepchildren, Reed and Bruce Ratledge and Bessie Webb; two sisters, Reba Sloan, and Hazel Palmer; and six brothers, Clyde, Lee Roy, Jay, Ray, Beecher and Arvin Cagle.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Toby Ratledge of Niota; two daughters and one son-in-law, Diane Hickman of Porum, Okla., and Velma and James Gentry of Harden, Mont.; six grandchildren, Amy and Andy Ratledge and Kevin Hickman and Jennifer Farner, all of Niota, Rebecca Gentry of Arizona, and Jeff Gentry of Harden, Mont.; eight step-grandchildren, all of Detroit Mich.; four great-grandchildren, Makayla and Cole Hickman, Scott Farner and Miranda Johnson, all of Niota; 12 step-great-grandchildren, all of Michigan; two brothers, Glenn Cagle of Niota, and Bill Cagle of California; and several nieces and nephews.
The body is at Kyker Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends on from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lawrence Waller officiating. Burial will follow in Niota cemetery.

Willie Eugene White, 51, of Athens, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at a Chattanooga hospital.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Simpson; his father, Ernest White; two brothers, Erby Simpson and Bob White; his grandparents, Jake and Willie Byrd Simpson; one uncle, Jake Simpson; and four aunts, Polly Roby, Clara Mae Simpson, Shirley Love and Junie Simpson.
Survivors include two children, Myron Roberts of Decatur, and Shaquille White Moore of Nashville; one sister, Ernestine “Sally” White of Cleveland, Ohio; three uncles and one spouse, Billy and Penny Simpson, Jimmy Simpson and Jesse Roby, all of Athens; one aunt, Ella Mae Moore of Niota; several beloved cousins; devoted friends, Naomi Johnkins and Helen Cox; and special friend, Rebecca Moore.
Funeral services will be Sunday in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Arnold Snowden officiating. Burial will follow in Hammonds cemetery.

George “Joey” F. Colbaugh Jr., 46, died suddenly on June 6, 2006.
He was born Jan. 10, 1960.

Henry Grissett
Henry Grissett, 82, of Madisonville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 8, 2006, at his home following a long illness.
He was of the Baptist faith and was a truck driver, retiring in 1991 from CASE Trucking Company in Athens. He will be remembered as a great and devoted husband, a loving father and papaw. He was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Burchfield; his parents, Jeff and Mae Grissett; and one brother, Willie C. Grissett.
Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Reva Burchfield Grissett; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty and Gary Peddycoart of Birmingham, Ala., Jane and Jeff Davey of Sweetwater, and Kathy “Cissy” Burchfield of Madisonville; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kaye Grissett of Troy, Ala.; grandchildren and spouses, Jim and Gail Lott and Jennifer and Bryan Cable, all of Maryville, Lynn and Doug Powers, Jodi Grissett and Rick Lang, all of Alabama, and Jamie, Jason and Jeremy Burchfield, Jessie Hull and Travis and Deaundra Hull, all of Madisonville; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Cleavester and Elmer Grissett of Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.

Ora Lee Robinson Rolen, 86, of Etowah, died Friday morning, June 9, 2006, at McMinn Memorial Nursing Home in Etowah.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Bliss and Josie Shadden. She was of the Pentecostal faith and was preceded in death by one sister, Mamie Lou Kilby; and one brother.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd Rolen of Etowah; three daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Lynn Evans of Etowah, Tiny and Rodney Bowers of Englewood, and Barbara and Andy Morrow of Madisonville; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Maryetta Farris of Etowah; seven grandchildren; two sisters; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Raymond A. Locke
Raymond A. Locke, 66, of Etowah, died Friday morning, June 9, 2006, at his residence.
A native of Benton and a resident of Etowah for about 45 years, he was a son of the late James and Amanda Blackwell Locke. He was a fan of NASCAR racing and football, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a retired conductor for CSX Railroad and was preceded in death by two brothers, James M. Locke and Aaron Locke; and one sister, Betty Sue Locke.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Casteel Locke of Etowah; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Sid Averett and Lisa and Billy Joe Coleman, all of Etowah; one son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Kim Locke of Etowah; seven grandchildren, Darby and Krystal Locke, Peyton Averett, Dylan and Cayci Coleman and Ashlee and Reagan Locke; one great-granddaughter, Ella Grace Locke; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Lou Hobson of Etowah, Jerry Lynn and Bill Davis of Hamilton, Ohio; seven brothers and four sisters-in-law, Eugene and Georgia Locke and Bill Locke, all of Etowah, Leonard and Laverne Locke of Englewood, Fred and Joy Locke of Madisonville, and Clifton Locke, Clifford Locke and Walter and Betty Locke, all of Benton; a special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hershell and Phyllis Casteel of Etowah; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 8 p.m. Sunday in the south chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Layspeaker Dennis Bordwine officiating and concluding with the Celebration of Life video. Family and friends assembled at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Monday and proceeded to Mars Hill cemetery for the 11 a.m. burial, which concluded with the White Dove Liberation Ceremony.
Pallbearers were Dillon Coleman, Alan Coleman, Len Moses, Kevin Hearn, Hershell Casteel and Jeff Anderson. An honorary pallbearer was Darby Locke.

Glen Durwood Godbey, 89, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Etowah Health Care Center.
He was a member of First Bible Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis E. and Erma May Matheny Godbey; his first wife, Eadie Godbey; his second wife, Mary R. Walden Godbey; one son; three sisters; and three brothers.
Survivors include three sons, Arthur “Woody” Godbey and Donald Ray Godbey, both of Athens, and Mark Godbey of Maryville; three stepsons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Debbie Harris, Velt and Becky Harris and Jerry and Ginger Harris, all of Decatur; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Bill James of Decatur, and Marcella and Mike Knox of McDonald; one brother, Hubert Godbey of West Lake, Fla.; one sister, Wanda Chandler of West Palm Beach, Fla.: four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Tommy A. Nichols, 75, of Madisonville, took a final trip hand-in-hand with his heavenly father surrounded by a host of angels to live eternally on Heaven´s bright shore on Saturday, June 10, 2006, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
He was a member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church and was preceded in death by one son, Dallas McDaniel; his parents, John and Parthenia Roberts Nichols; and three sisters, Mafle Bell, Violas Miller and Hazel Hamilton.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lillie McDaniel Nichols of Madisonville; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Lizzie Kay Burchfield, Connie Culberson, Nancy and Leroy Watson and Tina and Steve Rider, all of Madisonville, and Melissa and Perry Culberson of Athens; four sons and one daughter-in-law, Johnny Ray Nichols, Norman and Linda Nichols, Doug Nichols and Kenneth McDaniel, all of Madisonville; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dillard and Tom Nichols of Tellico Plains, and Herman and Betty Nichols of Crossville; and several nieces and nephews.
