Virginia Harper Jones, 81, of Winston-Salem, N.C., died Saturday, June 14, 2003 at Forsyth Medical Center. A native of Ducktown, and former resident of Etowah, she was a resident of Winston-Salem, N.C., for most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Nettie and Jack Harper and was preceded in death by one brother, Lyndus Harper. A graduate of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and later earned her teacher’s certificate and taught nursing at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. She was an active member of Winston-Salem First Baptist Church and a volunteer at its Crisis Control Ministry. A strong supporter of the North Carolina School of the Arts, she was a prolific quilter and a member of the Thursday Classic Quilters.
