He was a retired machinist in Dearborn, Mich., a member of VFW, a Navy veteran of World War II, received the Purple Heart medal while serving as a crew member on the USS Samuel B. Roberts which was sunk in the Battle of Leyte Gulf during World War II.

He was retired vice president and sales manager for Branded Liquors and was previously vice president of Seagram's, was an Army Air Corps sergeant in World War II and served as an airplane mechanic at Keesler Field in Biloxi, Miss., where he received a Presidential Commendation for his part in the development of an automatic feathering device for World War II period planes. .
