Mrs. Evelyn Thompson

Mrs. Evelyn Southern Thompson, 76, widow of A.M. Thompson and a resident of Transit Avenue in Columbia, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at the home of her sister on Bernhardt Boulevard in Columbia.

Services for Mrs. Thompson will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with the Rev. Mike Dawson and Elmer Lusk officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 5-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The Williamson County native was the daughter of the late Perry Francis and Evelyn Warren Southern. She retired as a seamstress for Publix and was a former employee of Dixie Manufacturing and Focus Foundation. She was a member of the Graymere Church of Christ.

She is survived by two sons, George Tommy (Ruby) Thompson and Francis M. (Joyce) Thompson, both of Columbia; two stepsons, Larry (Carol) Depp of Colorado Springs,  Colo., and Matt (Debbie) Thompson of Branchful, Ala.; five grandchildren, Melissa (Albert) Lynn and Kimberly Thompson, both of Columbia, and Angela (Chris) Thomas, Tammy (Wesley) Hart and George Tommy Thompson Jr., all of Johnson City; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Annette Balcom of Monroe, N.C., and Edith Love of Columbia; and three brothers, Charles Southern of Columbia, John Southern of Johnson City and J.M. Southern of Fresno,  Calif.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Beatrice Lynnville and Sylvia Southern.

Pallbearers will be Enoch George, Bobby Adkinson, Royal Dickson, Gary Beatty, Larry Lynn and Dwayne Waire.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Patrick Murphy and staff of Williamson Medical Center and the staff of Willowbrook Hospice.

Gene Davidson

Mr. Edward Eugene "Gene" Davidson, 78, resident of North Campbell Blvd., died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at St. Thomas Hospital.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Parkway Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Logan Davidson and Rosie Day Davidson. He retired from Monsanto Chemical Company after 36 years of service and was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Velma Gray Davidson of Columbia; one daughter, Pamela Jean Chunn of Columbia; one son, Danny (Joye) Davidson of Columbia; one sister, Mrs. Margaret (Johnny) Poteet of Lewisburg; one brother, Amos E. Davidson of Columbia; five grandchildren, Paula (Anthony) Marshall, Vicky (Darren) Wall, Jimmy (Serita) Davidson, Scott Chunn and Christie (Mike) Fautt; and five great-grandchildren, Stratton Marshall, Addison Marshall, Bradley Wall, Makayla Davidson and Neely Fautt.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronnie Davidson in 1973 and James Davidson in 1997; and three brothers, Grady Davidson, Merit Davidson and John Davidson.

Pallbearers will be Mike Anderson, Jerry Brunson, Dennis Ray Nichols, Jerry Nichols, Doug Hickman, Jimmy Davidson, Scott Chunn and Joe Gibson.

Honorary pallbearers will be retired employees of Monsanto Chemical Company.

Mrs. Lucille Lettenmaier

Mrs. Lucille Holder Lettenmaier, 81, a resident of West 14th Street in Columbia, died Monday, May 3, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Services for Mrs. Lettenmaier will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rick Points and Brother Tony Collins officiating. Entombment will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The Giles County native was the daughter of the late Ernest P. and Linda Hutton Holder and widow of Otto Lettenmaier. She was a retired from Taylor's Laundry and was employed in the laundry industry in St. Paul, Minn.

She is survived by a sister, Rose Murphy of Yucca Valley,  Calif.; 11 nieces, Pauline Holmes and Ruby Freeman, both of Cullman, Ala., Carilon Martin of Georgetown,  Texas, Betty Ferguson of Mt. Pleasant, Ann Stewart of Columbia, Peggy Workman, Linda Yant and Wanda Beaver, all of Pulaski, and Belinda Murphy, Lisa Murphy and Selestine, all of California; nephews, Billy Johnson of Columbia, Larry Johnson and Mike Johnson, both of Pulaski, Ronald Holder, Donald Holder and Bruce Holder, all of Cullman, Ala., and James Gene Holder of Florida and Robert Holder of Alabama; and a very special friend, John Black of Columbia.

Pallbearers will friends of the family.

Henry Eugene 'Gene' Hastings

LEWISBURG - Mr. Henry Eugene "Gene" Hastings, 89, of Lewisburg, died Monday, May 3, 2004, in Marshall Medical Center.

Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home with Charles Williamson officiating. Visitation will be from noon-4 p.m. Wednesday at Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home. Interment icon will be in the Sunset Park Cemetery.

He was the son of the late Henry and Leona Pack Hastings. He was retired from Heil-Quaker Corporation. He was a former member of the Petersburg Lion's Club, and a member of the Church Street Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his brother and sisters, Allen Hastings, Robbie Beard and Ruby Freeman.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Isley Hastings of Lewisburg.

Vernon Green

Vernon Hayes Green, 76, of Columbia, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at his residence.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hannaway Street Original Church of God with Bishop Boyd M. Kinzer Sr. officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday at V.K. Ryan & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Robert and Janie Bailey Green. He served in the United States Armed Services and was employed for more than 30 years by Porter-Walker, Inc. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Crawford Green; and four brothers, William Benjamin, James V., Hardin and J.D. Green.

Survivors include his children, Patricia Bailey, Gary Stovall and Terry Green, all of Columbia, and LaVerne Grisby of Franklin; a sister, Dovie Ann Laird of Chicago, Ill.; and a brother, Robert Lee Green of Nashville; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Willard Tankersley

PULASKI - Willard Tankersley, 85, of Pulaski, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at Hillside Hospital.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Carr & Erwin Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Scotts Hill Cemetery.

The Giles County native was the son of the late Ernest Wilson and Viola Johnson Tankersley. He was a retired logger and husband of the late Quilla Stanford Tankersley.

Survivors include sons, Joe Tankersley of Elkton, J.W. Tankersley of Pulaski and Eugene Tankersley of Nashville; a daughter, Helen Morris of Bodenham; a brother, Kenneth Tankersley of New Orleans, La.; a half-brother, Bob Johnson of Louisville, Ky.; sisters, Lorene Barnett of LaVergne and Evelyn Williams of Lawrenceburg; a half-sister, Odell Campbell of Leoma; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Morrison

CENTERVILLE - Mary Frances Morrison, 85, of Centerville, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Baptist Hickman Nursing Home.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home with Bill McDonald officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oakmont Cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late Oda Mae Leeper and Boyd Chessor. She was the wife of the late Marion Morrison. She was a former O.R. Technician and member of Crossroads Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Opal Roach; and brothers, John Will, James, Elmer and Bobby Chessor.

Survivors include a son, Charles (Naida) Morrison of Centerville; a daughter, Joy Farmer of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Agnes Gossett of Centerville; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Staff Sgt. Todd Edward Nunes
Friday, May 7, 2004

Staff Sgt. Todd Edward Nunes, 30, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, from combat-related injuries in Kirkuk, Iraq.

Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Nashville National Cemetery on Gallatin Road in Madison. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Saturday at Lawrence Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Todd Nunes Memorial Fund at First Farmers and Merchants Bank.

He was the son of Barbara Nunes and stepson of Jimmy Collins, both of Chapel Hill. He served in the U.S. Army in Iraq.

Survivors, in addition to his mother and stepfather, include his wife, Christy Herrington Nunes of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; daughter, Larissa Nunes of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; a son, Alex Nunes of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; a brother, Sgt. James Brian Nunes of Ft. Stewart, Ga.; and grandfather, James R. Shipman of Chapel Hill.

James Darrick Irwin

James Darrick Irwin, 25, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at Perry Community Hospital in Linden.

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home with Artie Collins officiating. Burial will be in Springer Cemetery.

He was the son of James Dillard Irwin Jr. of Santa Fe and Diana Runions Miezejeski of Hohenwald. He was a skid driver for Don Bows Logging.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Kimberly Elliott Irwin of Gallatin; a daughter, Denita MaKenzie Irwin of Hohenwald; stepfather, Craig Paul Miezejeski Sr. of Hohenwald; stepmother, Reatha Irwin of Santa Fe; stepbrother, Craig Paul Miezejeski II of Huntsville, Ala.; a sister, Rachel Diana Irwin of Hohenwald; and grandmother, Margie Runions of Hohenwald.

Albert Milton 'Jack' Cordell Jr.
Friday, May 7, 2004

Albert Milton "Jack" Cordell Jr., 58, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at his residence in Columbia.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the New Life Church, 611 Cayce Lane, with Darryl Martin officiating. Cremation will be at Affiliated Crematory in Nashville.

He was the son of the late Albert Milton Cordell Sr. and Beatrice Miller. He was employed as a construction/design manager for JRN Inc. of Columbia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Albert David Cordell; and a sister, Anna Ruth Green.

Survivors include his wife, Suzann Cordell of Columbia; a daughter, Allison Spader of Columbia; a son, Douglas Warner Cordell of Columbia; sisters, Bette C. Lancaster of Nashville and Zoe Ellen Greer of Clarksville; a brother, John Richard Cordell of Atlanta; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements are by McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville.

Mildred F. Clark

Mrs. Mildred F. Clark, 73, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at her residence in the Belfast Community in Lewisburg.

Williams Funeral Home of Columbia is in charge of arrangements.

She was a native of  Washington, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Joel Ervin and Armecia Leggett Swindell and the widow of Marvin Odell Clark Sr. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by four daughters, Marva Brock of Winter Park, Fla., Linda Elmasry of Orlando, Fla., Bobbie Redgrave of Kissimmee, Fla., and Cathy Correia of Belfast; three sons, Wesley Clark of Lewisburg, Marvin Clark Jr. of Tampa, Fla., and Larry Clark of Belfast; five adopted children, Travis Clark and Terri Weeks, both of Panama City, Fla., David Clark of Lewisburg, Lilly Clark of Twin City, Ga., and Renee Clark of Kissimmee, Fla.; 16 grandchildren and nine sisters and brothers.
