Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Pulaski with Doug Plumlee officiating. Burial will be in Giles Memory Garden. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Carr and Erwin Funeral Home.

He was the son of the late John Oliver and Mary Evelyn Bassye Burns. He was a retired school teacher and principal and member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Hutton Burns of Pulaski; sons, Bruce Burns of Pulaski and Bob Burns of Woodstock, Ga.; daughters, Betty Burns Ervin of Lynnville and Beverly Burns Toone of Pulaski; a twin brother, Walter Terry Burns; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family has requested that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, American Cancer Society, Hospice of the Highland Rim or Gideon's Memorial Bible Plan.

Nelson Eddy Owens
Friday, Mar 12, 2004

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Neal Funeral Home with Mickey Brackin officiating. Burial will be in old Ethridge Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be all day Friday.

He was the son of the late Sammie Dalton Owens and Elvia Louelle Tease Owens. He was a truck driver, a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, a member of the VFW, American Legion Post 1618 and a member of the Mars Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include sisters, Virginia Clay, Barbara Payne and Deana Owens, all of Lawrenceburg; and brothers, Rex Alexander of Leoma and Mark Owens of Summertown.

Helen Jordan Russell

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bennett-May Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She was the daughter of the late Robert Houston and Mildred Evelyn Wakefield Jordan. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Russell; a brother, Thomas Edward Jordan; and a sister, Joann Halcoumb.

Survivors include brothers, Houston Jordan, Kenneth Jordan and David Jordan; and sisters, Lurene Jordan Arthur, Marie Jordan Hill and Sandra Beal.

Minnie S. McClure

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Carr and Erwin Funeral Home with Doug Plumlee officiating. Burial will be in Giles Memory Garden. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She was the daughter of the late Jake and Molly Stubblefield Sparks. She was retired from Serbin Manufacturing Co. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Williamson McClure.

Survivors include a son, Doyle McClure of Petersburg; daughters, Shirley Guthrie and Earlene Harwell, both of Pulaski; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Willman Claud Coffey Jr.
Monday, Mar 15, 2004

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at Union Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the funeral Monday.

Burial will be in Round Hill Cemetery at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

He was the son of the late Willman Claud Sr. and Myrtle Bills Coffey and a native of Marshall County. He was a farmer, former director of Bank of Belfast and a member of the Union Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by brothers Berry Davis Coffey Sr. and Loyd Coffey.

Survivors include sister, Marie Wilmesherr of Lexington, Ky. and nephew, Berry Davis Coffey Jr. of Petersburg.

London Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Preston Taylor
Monday, Mar 15, 2004

Services were conducted Sunday at Fairview Church of Christ in Cornersville with burial was in Beechwood Cemetery.

He was the son of the late Willie D. and Era Murphy Taylor. He was employed at International Comfort Products for thirty years and a member of Fairview Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Lynda Taylor; sons, Clarence Taylor of Shelbyville and Brandon Taylor of Memphis; daughters, Metreal Mayberry of Columbia and Kischa Taylor of Nashville; brothers David Taylor of Columbus, Ohio and Paul Taylor of Lewisburg; sisters, Hatticile Buchanan, Marla and Eileen Taylor, all of Nashville, Roxie Foster of Winston Salem NC and Patricia McKeever of Austrell, Ga. and three grandchildren.

J.B. Mayberry & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmie Mae Westbrooks
Tuesday, Mar 16, 2004

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Aetna Church of Christ with L.C. Loveless and Van Ward officiating. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday at Aetna Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Milan Cemetery.

The Centerville native was the daughter of the late Lucinda Conder and Jacob Cumberland. She was the wife of the late Oscar Westbrooks. She was employed at Hickman County Senior Citizens. She was also preceded in death by a step-daughter, Mary Westbrooks.

Survivors include her sons, Rickey Westbrooks of Centerville and Johnny Ray Westbrook of Fairfield,  Calif.; a daughter, Dorothy Brown of Centerville; a step-son, Kenneth Westbrooks of Ensenada, Mexico; step-daughters, Betty Jo McKinnon and Willie Ruth Statum, both of Shelbyville; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild and 12 step-grandchildren.

Carlos Harlan and Phillis Elaine Dement Welch

CENTERVILLE - Carlos Harlan and Phillis Elaine Dement Welch, died Thursday, February 26, 2004, at their residence in Centerville, Missouri, in a house fire.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 29, 2004, at McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellington, Missouri. Burial was in Price Cemetery in Redford, Missouri. Bernie Crum, who officiated at their wedding in May 1967 and minister of Park Hills Church of Christ, officiated.

Carlos, the son of Henry Norris and Cornelia Dishman Welch, was born September 7, 1939, in Brotherton, Putnam County, Tennessee. He was the third of five brothers and sisters who lived at the Tennessee Orphans Home in Spring Hill, where he was a resident from July 1944 until his graduation from Harding College in May 1964. Mr. Welch was a 1959 graduate of Spring Hill High School. After teaching one year in Arkansas, he moved to Missouri where he met and married Phillis.

Phillis was the daughter of Ruby and Elmo Dement. Born July 17, 1947 in Ironton, Missouri, she graduated from Centerville High School in 1966. She was a homemaker. The Welch's had one daughter Kellie and cared for several foster children. Because of their love for children, they moved to Spring Hill in 1977, to become house parents to the older boys at the Tennessee Children's Home. They also lived in Columbia for several months when Kellie attended Riverside Elementary School and were members of Graymere Church of Christ. They returned to Missouri as Carlos resumed his teaching career which spanned more than 35 years before his retirement in 2003. In 1982 he became the minister of Centerville Church of Christ and continued in that capacity until his death.

Survivors include their daughter, Kellie (Keith) Brewer of Gosnell, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Morgan, Drake, and Camryn of Gosnell, Arkansas; Carlos' brothers and sisters, Henry Eldon (Jean) Welch of Nashville; Bill (Carol) Welch of Columbia; Alma (Duval) Greene of Gray Summit, Missouri; Gertha (Clifton) Price of St. Louis, Missouri; Phillis's parents, Ruby and Elmo Dement of Centerville, Missouri; and her brothers, Gary (Loretta) Dement and Teddy (Janet) Dement, both of Centerville, Missouri; and Terry (Susie) Dement of Vulcan, Missouri.

Leona Christine Kelley Kimbrough

ANTHONY HILL - Leona Christine Kelley Kimbrough, 88, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at her home in the Anthony Hill Community.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Carr and Erwin Funeral Home. Burial will be in Giles Memory Garden. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church.

She was the daughter of the late Joe and Lizzie Thornton Kelley. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Kimbrough.

Survivors include sons, Dennis Kimbrough, Joe Kimbrough, Ronald Kimbrough and Robert Lane Kimbrough, all of Anthony Hill, Mike Kimbrough of Pulaski and Robert Kimbrough of Nashville; daughters, Carolyn Pierce of Pulaski, Wanda Curtis and Barbara Brown, both of Smyrna, Sally Campbell of Nashville and Sarah Reynolds of Anthony Hill; 24 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Carolyn Marlin
Monday, Apr 5, 2004

Carolyn Marlin, 73, died Friday, April 2, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Services will be conducted Monday at the McDonal Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with Glen Floyd officiating. Burial will be in the Dr. O. A. Kirk Memorial.

A hohenwald native, Marlin was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Pace and Lillie Belle Pace (Cotham). She was a machine operator and was preceded in death by her husband Paul Edward Marlin.

Survivors include sons, Ronnie Pace of Beaumont,  Texas, Larry Marlin of Jackson, Miss. and Christopher Marlin of Hohenwald; daughters, Donna Chafin of Detroit, Mich., Deborah Jones and Polly Pitts, both of Hohenwald and Vickie Magley of Centerville; sister Julie Baxter of Hohenwald and 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Shelby Huey
Monday, Apr 5, 2004

Mr. Shelby Huey, 88, resident of Allison Drive in Columbia, died Friday, April 2, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Services for Mr. Huey will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Randy Kersey and Hueston Marshall officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens.

The Dyersburg native was the son of the late Russell and Fannie Jacobs Hughey. He was the widower of Hazel Isabell Huey. He was a retired supervisor for Mobil Oil Company in Mt. Pleasant. He was a carpenter and furniture builder and a member of Scribner's Mill Church of Christ.

He is survived by a son, Tony Huey of Columbia; four grandchildren, Chris Huey and Shannon Huey, both of Summertown, and Tiffany Huey and Miranda Huey, both of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgie Skelley and Azalene Jupitner; two brothers, Raymond Hughey and William Hughey.

Pallbearers will be Tony Endsley, George Endsley, Richard Yates, Jerry Vaughn, Buddy Smith and Billy Stone.

Honorary pallbearers will be nurses and staff of Life Care Center and members of Scribner's Mill Church of Christ.

Memorials may be made to Scribner's Mill Church of Christ, 2386 Scribner's Mill Road, Culleoka, TN 38451.
