Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hopewell A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Lisa Hammonds officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Baxter Bros. Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was the son of the late John W. Orr Sr. and Alice Wilkes Orr Buchanan.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Jackson Orr of Springfield; a brother, JaColby Orr of Chicago; and a sister Robbie Ann Orr of Chicago.

Mack Kenny Parson
Tuesday, Mar 9, 2004

Memorial services for Mr. Parson will be conducted at a later date in Corinth, Miss. Williams Funeral Home in Columbia will be in charge of local arrangements.

The Corinth, Miss., native was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Parson. He was a salesman for many years. He was a member of the Grassland Heights Baptist Church in Franklin.

He is survived by two daughters, Angie (Dr. Mark) Shelton of Paducah, Ky., and Kandy (Michael) Williams of Laguna Nigel,  Calif.; grandchildren, Cole Williams, Raychel Shelton, Rebecca Shelton and Andrew Shelton.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Robin Parson.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Highland Rim, 2014 Elmer Pogue Drive, Columbia, TN 38401.

Troy Lee Newell Sr.
Tuesday, Mar 9, 2004

A long-time resident of Summertown, he was the son of the late William "Zan" Alexander and Rhoda Cagle Newell of Barnesville. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a retiree of Union Carbide of Columbia. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Chase Newell; and one sister who died at birth. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church.

Services for Troy Lee Newell Sr. were conducted Saturday at Neal Funeral Home Chapel with Ricky Pitts officiating. Burial was in the Barnesville Cemetery with full military honors.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Merle Blue Newell; four sons, Marvin (Mary) and Glynn (Pat), both of Summertown, Troy Lee Jr. (Pam) of Lawrenceburg and Larry (Shirley) of Franklin; three daughters, Linda Hughes of Lawrenceburg, Brenda Jones (Warren) of Summertown and Lydia Benefield (Gary) of Columbia; one sister, Gertrude Riggins of Lawrenceburg; one brother-in-law, David Blue (Thelma) of Barnesville; 12 grandchildren, Tonya (Joe) Isbell, Alex (Beth) Newell, Michelle (Keith) McCafferty and April (Philip) Frazier, all of Summertown, Stephanie (Bo) Brown of Birmingham, Ala., Cheryl (Joey) Whitehurst of Arrington, Joshua (Becky) Hughes and Anita (Scott) Pilkinton, both of Lawrenceburg, Nathan (Ashley) Hughes USS Navy based in Mayport Jacksonville, Fla., Heath (Katie) Newell of Paducah, Ky., Rachel Newell of Columbia and Starr (Brad) Taylor of Nashville; 10 great-grandchildren, Paige Smith, Luke Isbell, Claudia, Caitlin, Chloe, Cana Brown, Abby Whitehurst, John David McCafferty, Haleigh Pilkinton and Allyson Frazier; several nieces and nephews and lots of friends.

Pallbearers were Alex Newell, Joey Whitehurst, Keith McCafferty, Joshua Hughes, Heath Newell, Brad Taylor and Philip Frazier.

Honorary pallbearers were all retirees of Union Carbide of Columbia, Curley Voss, Delton Rosson, Vernon Giles, Jimmy Rowland, C.E. Christian Jr., Bill Smith and Nurse Lisa Reed of Hospice.

Neal Funeral home was in charge of all arrangements.

Kenneth Ray McCann
Tuesday, Mar 9, 2004

Services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Baptist Church in Hohenwald with the Rev. Leonard Ballinger and the Rev. Jerry McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the Lewis County Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the family will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until service time at the New Hope Church on Wednesday.

He was the son of the late Buford and Camilla Stutts McCann. He was an employee of the Jefferson Smurfit Corp. in Humboldt. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas McCann.

Survivors include his wife, Blondell Azbell McCann; a daughter, Darlene Reasons of Humboldt; sons, Randall McCann and Marty McCann of Humboldt and Michael McCann of Hohenwald; brothers, William McCann, Gene McCann, Jerry McCann, Joe McCann, Ed McCann and J.D. McCann, all of Hohenwald; sisters Mosetta Hinson, Betty Jones and Evelyn Keeton, all of Hohenwald; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Frances Pettus West
Tuesday, Mar 9, 2004

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pettus-Turnbo Funeral Home with Mark Cross officiating. Interment icon will be in Wright Cemetery at Fayetteville. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

She was the daughter of the late Cyrus Benton and Carrie Woliver Pettus. She was a clerk at Ledbetter Drug Store and a member of the Eastside Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Butler West.

Survivors include a son, Robert B. "Bobby" West of Waynesboro; a sister, Margaret Grubbs of Pulaski; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

James L. 'Jimmy' Henson
Wednesday, Mar 10, 2004

Mr. James L. "Jimmy" Henson, 71, a resident of Shackelford Drive in Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, March 8, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Henson will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Reverend Elmer Crosby and Billy Dean Felker officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 3-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Thomas Luther and Henri Etta Hunt Henson and was the husband of Ann Massey Henson of Mt. Pleasant. He was retired from the Maury County Landfill. He was a member of the Halls Chapel Church of Christ and served our country in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Doris (Johnny) Johns of Columbia, and Phyllis Henson of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Allie McNabb of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, George Henson of Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dovie Henson and a brother, Leroy Henson.

Pallbearers will be Randy Workman, Ronnie Workman, R.L. Workman, Jackey Massey, William Massey, and Ronnie Dugger. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Thompson, Jr., Wayne Massey, Billy Hollis, Alan Massey, David Massey, Bill Runions, George Runions, Roy Wayne Henson, and Boyd Wood.

Mary Lou Peden

PULASKI - Mary Lou Peden, 97, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Maplewood Cemetery. Carr and Erwin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was the daughter of the late Will Thomas and Mattie Jane Rich Walls. She was a homemaker and member of the Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Peden and a daughter, Mary Ann Peden Hampton.

Survivors include two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Ricky Lynn Anderson

CENTERVILLE - Ricky Lynn Anderson, 40, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hilltop Cemetery at Lyles with Bill McDonald officiating.

He was the son of George L. Anderson and the late Betty Louise Petty. He was disabled.

Survivors, in addition to his father, include a son, John Thomas Anderson of Nashville; brothers, Roger Anderson of Ashland City and Gordon Anderson of Shelbyville; and a sister, JoAnn Bevillis of Fayetteville.

Ima Jean Hobbs

Mrs. Hobbs was a native of Marshall County and the daughter of the late Joe Brittian and Ina Lee Manual Taylor. She was a homemaker and member of the Lynnville Church of Christ.

Preceded in death by her husband, Harry Dean Hobbs, in 1998 and a brother, Alex Taylor, she is survived by two sons, Joe Wade (Kay) Hobbs and Harry Dean (Dorinda) Hobbs; son-in-law, Fate Walker of Lynnville; two daughters, Barbara (Stan) Smith and Susie (Jose) Guerrero, all of Lynnville; two sisters, Malzen Wiles and Betty Cowser, both of Lewisburg; a brother, Joe Taylor of Pulaski; 11 grandchildren, Mike (Sheila) Coleman, Kelsey (Suzette) Walker, Lori (Scott) Garner, Kevin (Meredith) Walker, Betsy (Chris) Lowe, Jason Hobbs, Kimberly (Chad) Roder, Matthew Hobbs, Brian (Brandy) Hobbs, Steven Smith and Brandon Hobbs; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted by Milton Stephens at 2 p.m. Saturday from the chapel of London Funeral Horne with burial in Lynnwood Cemetery at Lynnville.

Serving as pallbearers are Kelsey Walker, Kevin Walker, Jason Hobbs, Matthew Hobbs, Brandon Hobbs, Brian Hobbs, Steven Smith and Willie Watson.

The family will be at London Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Friday and until the funeral hour Saturday for visitation.

Visitation with the family will be from noon-1 p.m. Saturday at First Missionary Baptist Church with services to follow at 1 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Eric Brown officiating. The body will lie-in-state after 2 p.m. Friday at V.K. Ryan & Son Funeral Home with burial in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Orr Dawson. She attended the Maury County school system and was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Tony (Kimberly) Martin of Columbia; two grandchildren; a sister, Bessie Scribner of Mt. Pleasant; god-daughters, Yulette "Cookie" Sparkman of Columbia and Barbara Holmes of Fayetteville; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Hubert Stephen Smith
Friday, Mar 12, 2004

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at Sunset Funeral Home in Northport, Ala. The family will visit with friends from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Northport, Ala.

The Birmingham, Ala., native was the son of Ruby Spurger Smith of Birmingham, Ala., and the late Hubert Presley Smith. He was a graduate of Minor High School in Bayview, Ala.

He was in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He was an active member of Assembly of God Church.

Survivors in addition to his mother are his wife of 32 years, Reta Yvonne Shelton of Columbia; one brother, Roger Dale (Rebecca) Smith of Birmingham, Ala.; two sisters, Marie (Claude) Willis and Brenda Smith, both of Birmingham, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Ronny W. Slagle
Friday, Mar 12, 2004

Services will be at conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Neal Funeral Home with Jerry Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Bumpas Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

He was the son of the late Jack Slagle and Ruth McGee Bradfield. He was disabled.

Survivors include sisters, Barbara Bradfield Matthess and Diane Bradfield, both of Lawrenceburg.
