Addie Bishop Baxter

Mrs. Addie Bishop Baxter, 85, resident of Snow Creek Road, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Lloyd Baxter Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Baxter Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Frank Bishop and Estelle Blocker Bishop. On Dec. 21, 1937, she married Mora B. Baxter of Santa Fe. She was a member of Kettle Mills Church of Christ.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Mora B. (Bonnie) Baxter Jr. of Santa Fe; one daughter, Alice Jean (Glenn) Mash of Hampshire; five grandchildren, Glenn Mash Jr., Terry Mash, Bridgett Romine, Melissa Fudge, and Lori Hollis; six great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, June Baxter Flanigan, who died March 25, 1974; one brother, Marvin Bishop, twin sister, Allie Z. Collins; and sister, Mary Alice Anderson.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Mash, Jr., Terry Mash, Lewis Hann, Kyle Fudge, Kent Romine, David Page, and Charles Collins.

Robert Owen Bass

PULASKI - Robert Owen Bass, 94, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Carr and Erwin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Brick Church Cemetery Fund, the Beech Hill Monument Fund or the church of choice.

He was a retired school teacher and member of the Brick Church Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Boyd Bass.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane Guinn of the Brick Church Community and Mae Gillespie of the Olivet Community; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Ruth Coleman Green

Mrs. Ruth Coleman Green, 93, retired seamstress and resident of Greens Mill Road, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Neapolis Cemetery with Steve Robertson officiating. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Robert Franklin Coleman and Mary Jane Johnson Coleman. She was a member of the Nazarene Church.

Survivors include her husband of seventy-four years, William J. Green, Jr. of Columbia; one son, William J. Green, III, of Fort Worth,  Texas; three sisters, Kathleen Johnson of Greenville,  Pennsylvania; Lois Lane of  Pennsylvania; Jessie Alderson of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret Sue Thompson

LAWRENCEBURG Margaret Sue Thompson, 66, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at her residence in Lawrenceburg.

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at Neal Funeral Home with Mike Phelps and Steve Queen officiating. Burial will be in Bumpas Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She was the daughter of the late Tom G. Smith and Susie Anna Devore Smith. She was a homemaker and member of Faith Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Lee Thompson.

Survivors include daughters, Ella Medley and Linda Thompson, both of Lawrenceburg; son, Roger Smith of Centerville; brother, Paul Smith of Lawrenceburg; sisters, Georgia Durham, Mamie Kilburn and Margie Thompson, all of Lawrenceburg and Minnie Hubbard of California; and four grandchildren.

John T. Shelby

John T. Shelby, 88, of Centerville, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at his residence.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home with Dennis Tidwell officiating. Burial will be in Nickell Cemetery.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a farmer. He was the son of the late Earlie Martin and Jessie Shelby. He was a member of Defeated Creek Church of Christ. He was also preceded in death by his sons, John Shelby and Freddie Lee Shelby; and sisters, Sallie Brown McCaleb, Josie Harvill and Mary Jane Davidson.

Survivors include his wife, Alsie Mae Shelby of Centerville; sons, Roy Shelby and Richard Shelby, both of Centerville, and Larry Shelby of Cunningham.

Mrs. William E. Clark

Mrs. Betty Eskew Clark, 73, retired management analyst at Warner-Robbins Air Force Base, Ga. and resident of Stone Trace Drive in Murfreesboro, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with the Rev. Gail Watson officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Blackman United Methodist Church, 4380 Manson Pike, Murfreesboro, TN 37129. Notes of sympathy may be made to www.oakesandnichols.com.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late F.C. Eskew and Janie Goodwin Eskew. She was a graduate of Peabody College in Nashville and past president of the Air Force Association. She was a member of the Blackman United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro.

Survivors include her husband, William E. Clark of Murfreesboro; four sons, Marshall (Martha) Clark of Round Oak, Ga., William David Clark of Willmington, N.C., Wallace Neal Clark of Wilmington, N.C., and Daniel Lee Clark of Cochran, Ga.; two sisters, Mildred Mabry of Nashville and Elva Soaps of Murfreesboro; two grandchildren, Lee Clark and David Clark, both of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Leo Harvey Peppers

Leo Harvey Peppers, 93, of Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at his daughter's residence.

Services were conducted Saturday at Neal Funeral Home with Jeremiah Tatum and Arlo Peppers officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence County Memorial Gardens.

He was a retired principal and teacher of 46 years. He was the son of the late Annie Chandler and Dilmos Peppers. He was the husband of the late Viva Hendrix Peppers. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ludie Townsend; and brothers, Veto Homer and Paul Peppers.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Markus; sisters, Clayton Beard of Lawrenceburg and Dean Byrd of Dickson; brothers, Arlo Peppers and Bobby Peppers, both of Lawrenceburg, Herbert Peppers and Hershel Peppers, both of Nashville and Almon Peppers of Panama City, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Stephanie Rogers Kunzelman

Stephanie Rogers Kunzelman, 31, died Thursday, June 3, 2004.

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Centenary United Methodist Church with Edwin Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park.

The daughter of Alan H. and Diane Griffin Rogers, Kunzelman was a master gardener and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Whit Kunzelman of Macon, Ga., formerly of Columbia; sisters, Valerie Francis and Pam Luckie of Macon, Ga. and grandfather Malcolm L. Rogers of Lizella, Ga.

Mildred Bailey

Mildred Arvalee Thomas Bailey, 72, of Lawrenceburg, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at National Health Care.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pettus-Turnbo Funeral Home with Joel Daniel officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service Sunday. Burial will be in Busby Cemetery in Loretto.

The Loretto native was the daughter of the late William Virgil and Ruby Faulkner Thomas. She was a homemaker and wife of the late Acie Lee Bailey. She was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Max Ward Markle

Max Ward Markle, 76, of Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home with Harold Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in Jasonville, Ind.

He was the son of Donna Herring and Sanford Ward Markle. He was a retired mechanic and a member of Providence Baptist Church. He was a member of the VFW, Lawrenceburg Eastern Star 103 and. Mimosa Lodge #542.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Harlan Markle of Lawrenceburg.

Bashie Johns

Bashie Clayton Butler Johns, 87, of Greenfill, Ala., died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at National Health Care Center.

Services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday by graveside at Shiloh Cemetery with Murrell Johns officiating. Visitation was held Saturday at Neal Funeral Home.

She was the daughter of the late Amanda Gist and William Cleveland Butler. She a homemaker and wife of the late Enoch Woodrow Johns Sr. She attended Shiloh Church of Christ. She was also preceded in death by a son, Junior Johns.

Survivors include daughters, Clayton Jaynes of Greenfill, Ala., and Betty Staggs of Florence, Ala.; sons, Willie Johns and Murrell Johns, both of St. Joseph; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Marvin Richard Bishop Jr.

Marvin Richard Bishop Jr., 66, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jennings Funeral Home with Lloyd Baxter Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.

Bishop was a horse trainer and worked in general maintenance at Monsanto Chemical. He was president of the Maury County Bridle and Saddle Club and an organizer of Mule Day.

He was preceded in death by wife, Myrna Baxter Bishop.

Survivors include sons Marvin Rick Bishop of Culleoka and Michael Burton of Columbia; daughters, Lisa Secrest and Tabby Thrasher, both of Culleoka; a sister, Patsey Sims of Van Leer; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Kenneth M. Thomas Jr.

Mr. Kenneth Marshall "Kenny" Thomas Jr., a resident of Galloway Street in Columbia, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at NHC Columbia.

Graveside services for Mr. Thomas will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at the McCain Cemetery with the Rev. Russell Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Williams Columbia Funeral Home.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Kenneth Marshall and Ruth Whitworth Thomas Sr. He was a graduate of Hay Long High School. He was a retired painter for Everett Jett Company.

He is survived by a brother, Michael (Yvonne) Thomas of Jackson; a beloved friend, Sue Sullivan of Columbia; three aunts and several cousins.

Pallbearers will be Michael Joe Russell, Jeff Russell, Michael Russell, James Jones, James Morton and Curtis Bowden.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1212, Columbia, TN 38401.
