Mr. Charles F. Sinkeus
Mr. Charles F. Sinkeus, 84, retired from Witco Chemical Company in Chicago, Ill., and resident of the Old Lewisburg Highway in Columbia for the past 10 years, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, at his residence.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Father Patrick Connor officiating. The family will visit with friends after 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com.
A native of Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late Matthew Sinkeus and Martha Miliauskas Sinkeus. He was a communicant of St. Catherine Catholic Church, a member of the Fruit of the Vine and an avid bowler.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Fawns Sinkeus of Columbia; four children, Charles J. (Cathy) Sinkeus of Oaklawn, Ill., Louis Germann of Columbia, Debbie Peterson of Culleoka and James Germann of Columbia; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Ada Tharp
HOHENWALD - Ada Estelle Tharp, 99, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Lewis County Manor.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Pentecostal Church, with David Jackson and Chip Hunter officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the funeral Tuesday.
Burial will be in Dabbs Cemetery.
She was the daughter of the late Jim and Ava Moon and a native of Hohenwald.
Survivors include a son, Loyd Kenneth Peevyhouse of Hohenwald; daughters Marilyn Hinson of Burns and Bernice Dabbs and Lois Lynch, both of Hohenwald; a sister, Nadia Beasley of Hohenwald; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband Loyd Peevyhouse and husband Samuel Tharp.
Allen Smith
LAWRENCEBURG - Allen L. Smith, 68, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, in his home.
Services will be held at noon Tuesday at Neal Funeral Home with Eddie Roders officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30-9 p.m. Monday.
Burial will be in Kidd Cemetery.
He was the son of the late Allen L. Smith.
He was a Navy veteran and a retired Wal-Mart greeter.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Ann Haley Smith of Lawrenceburg; a daughter, Jessica Baldwin of Murfreesboro; and two grandchildren.
Helen Fragel Savage
Mrs. Helen Fragel Savage, 85, widow of Charles W. Savage, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at her residence on Lookout Drive in Columbia.
Services for Mrs. Savage will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with the Rev. Charles Blythe officiating. The family will visit with friends from 5-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Swan Lake Memorial Park in Peoria, Ill.
The Peoria, Ill., native was the daughter of the late Henry A. and Victoria Comegys Fragel. She was a homemaker and former secretary of the Central First Assembly of God in Peoria.
She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Columbia in which she was a greeter and was involved in the hospitality ministry.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl (Alan) Sweat of Columbia; a son, Charles W. (Loretta) Savage Jr. of Woodruff, Wis.; five grandchildren, Kimmy (Dan) Meneu of Anaheim, Calif., Tracie Savage of Seattle, Wash., Kevin Savage of Anaheim, Calif., Matthew (Dawn) Sweat of Antioch and Mark Sweat of Columbia; three great-grandchildren, Amber Meneu and Ryan Meneu, both of Anaheim, Calif., and Luke Sweat of Antioch; two sisters, Mary Ann Moran and Kathryn Dunningan, both of Peoria, Ill.; and a sister-in-law, Louise Fragel of Peoria, Ill. She was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Fragel.

Johnnie B. Oliver
Mr. Johnnie B. Oliver, 80, a resident of Riverside Drive in Columbia, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital.
Services for Mr. Oliver will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Elmer Lusk, Joe Macer, Brad Goodwin and Joseph Wells officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens.
The Giles County native was the son of the late Morgan and Alice Foster Oliver. He was the husband of Eunice Crigger Oliver. He retired from the Columbia Fire Department of 35 years. He was with the Maury Rural Fire and Rescue and served as Assistant Director.
He served in the United States Army during World War II in the 169th Infantry Division and in Germany as a messenger for different platoons. He was a member of the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 and VFW Post #4969. He was an avid gardener and loved helping people. He was a member of the East Side Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Belinda (Larry) Goodwin of Manchester and Sandra Kay (Freddie) Rich of Columbia; 10 grandchildren, Michael Oliver and Crysta Oliver, both of Reno, Nev., Richard (Kelley) Goodwin and Brad (Jennifer) Goodwin, both of Manchester, Angie (Lee) Martin of Tullahoma, Ricky (Jamie) Rich of Oklahoma City and Melanie (Joey) Estes, Audrey Rich, Stephanie Pilkinton and Hilary Jones, all of Columbia; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, John William Oliver; a daughter, Jane Oliver Jones; a sister, Lucille Oliver; and five brothers, J.P. Oliver, Bill Oliver, James Oliver, Cleve Oliver and Willard Oliver.
Pallbearers will be the Columbia Fire Department Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Maury Rural Fire and Rescue, Elders and Deacons of Eastside Church of Christ, members and former members of the Columbia Fire Department, members of Maury 911 and the members of Maury Regional EMS.

LAWRENCEBURG - Vernon Reed Hayward, 99, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Bortz Healthcare of Oakland, Mich.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She was the daughter of the late Robert Edward Reed and Carrie Voorhies Reed. She was preceded in death by her husband, David P. Hayward.
Survivors include a son, Ira Wilson Adams Jr. of Lincoln Park, Mich.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Max Thompson Winters
CENTERVILLE - Max Thompson Winters, 75, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital.
Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville with Bill McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens.
He was the son of the late Ollie Winters and Rachel Elizabeth Coble. He was a material cutter and weather tamer.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Winters of Columbia; a son, Jack Winters of Columbia; daughters, Cheryl Lynn Dickson of McEwen and Ronda Kay Parks of Columbia; a brother, Joe Winters of Centerville; a sister, Peggy Parham of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Delphia Simmons
HOHENWALD - Delphia Simmons, 89, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Centennial Medical Center.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church with Dwayne Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Deavers Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home in Hohenwald and continue from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at the church.
She was the daughter of the late John Hickman Hensley and Susie Melvina Stephens Hensley. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Carl Simmons.
Survivors include sons, Edward Simmons and James Simmons, both of Linden, Bobby Simmons of Centerville and Garry Simmons of Hohenwald; daughters, Kathleen Carroll Tanner of Summertown and Sue Ayers of Goodlettsville; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

NASHVILLE - Louise Johnson, 94, died Saturday, June 12, 2004.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Johnson; a daughter, Joy Johnson; and a son, Bobby Johnson.
Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Kerr; a sister, Maggie Sue Baker; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was the daughter of the late Clarence Edward Blocker and Lillie Mai Bishop. She was a certified nurse technician with Baptist Hickman Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Harriett Fitzpatrick.
Survivors include daughters, Wanda Paty of Dickson and Barbara Bates, Cindy Smith and Connie Bragg, all of Centerville; a son, Harry C. Vaughn Jr. of Centerville; brothers, Lewis Blocker and George Blocker, both of Nunnelly, and Clarence Edward Blocker and James Blocker, both of Centerville; sisters, Ann Dotson of Cottontown and Betty Rosson of Centerville; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She is the daughter of the late Elmer and Polly Ann Kelley Nutt. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, Guy D. Smith of Lawrenceburg.

She was the daughter of the late Robert Levi Durham and Olcie Lauraine Pennington Durham. She was a retired supermarket cashier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Taylor Blue.
