Tennessee, U.S., Delayed Birth Records, 1869-1909
Arnold Cox
Arnold Cox, age 68 of Jacksboro, passed away Aug. 10, 2008 at his home in Jacksboro. He was a member of the Longfield Baptist Church in Lake City. He was an Army veteran having served in Vietnam. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and everything the outdoors had to offer. He also enjoyed spending time with his two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Josie Cox; brothers, Lawrence Cox, Odevah Cox and Arvil Cox; sister, Geneva Cox.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Shelia Cox of Jacksboro; daughter, Jodi Lee of Michigan; brother, Harold Cox of Knoxville; sister, Della Ward of Ontario; grandchildren, Robbie Lee and Shelbi Lee.
Funeral services were held Aug. 12 at Holley Gamble Funeral Home with the Rev. Floyd Bailey Jr. officiating. Interment icon was in the Campbell County Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the Campbell County Honor Guard.
Holley Gamble Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

David Lee Douglas
David Lee Douglas, 77 of Sukey Hollow, Williamsburg, Ky passed away Aug. 6, 2008 at Oak Tree Hospital in Corbin, Ky. He was born July 11, 1931 in Newcomb.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Alberta Rigney Douglas; brothers, Jim, Everett, Jack, Steve and Estel; sisters, Gracie May, Reba, Wilma and Goldie.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Frances Douglas; son, David Dwayne Douglas and wife, Kim of Louisville, Ky; daughter, Tammy Givens and husband, David of Dalton, GA; brother, Bill Douglas and wife, Loretta of Sidney, OH( who followed him in death 12 hours later.); sisters, Ruth Couch and husband, Eddie of Benton, Bertha Newport and husband, Jack of Oneida; grandchildren, Cody Givens, Christopher Douglas, Joseph Givens, Ciera Douglas and Caitlin Douglas; a host of friends and family to mourn his passing.
Funeral services were held Aug. 8 in the Harp Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Andrew Ayers and Rev. Allen Marlow officiating. Interment icon was in the Douglas Cemetery.
Harp Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Daisy Mae Harp
Daisy Mae Harp, 89 of Fairview, Ky, passed Aug. 3, 2008 at the Jellico Community Hospital. She was born April 20, 1919 in Harlan, Ky, the daughter of the late James and Lillie Arnold Stokes. She was a member of the Kentucky Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frances “Tip” Harp; special son in law, Jack Baker.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Baker of Fairview, Ky; granddaughters, Teresa Moses and husband, Jeff, Susie Walters and husband, Shawn all of Fairview, Ky: great grandchildren, Erica Moses, Carrie Moses, Nicholas Lowe, Madison Lowe and Connor Walters; sister, Hazel Bunch of Oak Ridge.
Funeral services were held Aug. 6 in the Cox and Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leon Mullinex, Rev. Vernon Jones and Jeff Moses officiating. Interment icon was in the Oak Lawn Cemtery.
Cox and Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Leon Jeffers
Leon Jeffers, 57, of Lake City, passed away Aug. 6, 2008 at his residence. He was born August 27, 1950 in Campbell County to the late Willard and Hannah Phillips Jeffers. He was a member of the Gospel Baptist Church in South Clinton. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a coal miner for 21 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Jeffers; father in law, Coy Wright.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jeffers of Lake City; son, Richard Jeffers and wife, Patricia of Lake City; daughter, Betty Jean Meekins and husband, Michael of GA; Martha Ann Phillips and husband, Darrell of Andersonville; mother in law, Ruth Wright of Clinton; brother, David Jeffers of Clinton; Estile Jeffers of Maryville and Robert Jeffers of Knoxville; sister, Francis Rutledge of Knoxville; grandchildren, Ricky and Melodie, Sarah, Karah, Michael, Cody, Adam, Christopher and Ginnie; special friends, Leslie and Pat Daugherty of Clinton, Rev. Jim Ault of Lake City; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Aug. 10 in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Roop and Rev. Jimmy Ault officiating. Interment icon was in the Sulpher Springs Cemtery.
Hatmaker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Norman W. “Pappy” Lingerfelt
Norman W. “Pappy” Lingerfelt, 88, of Brandenburg, Ky and formerly of Tonopah, AZ, passed away Aug. 5, 2008 at the VA Medical Center in Louisville, Ky. He was a veteran of the United States Army and P.O.W. of World War II where he saw combat in Europe. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with One Oak Leaf Cluster. He was also a truck driver for a septic tank service. He was born September 3, 1919 in Chattanooga to the late Thomas Hardin and Viola Jane Johnson Lingerfelt.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary M. Lingerfelt and all of his siblings.
He is survived by his daughter, Norma J. Coy and her husband, James of Shepherdsville, KY; sons, Jimmy R. Lingerfelt and his wife, Judy of Brandenburg, KY and Edward L. Lingerfelt of Maumee, OH, 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and his dog of 10 years, Mitzi.
The family chose cremation. His remains will be interred in Phoenix, AZ on Sept. 10 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona next to his wife Mary.
Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home in Brandenburg, Ky was in charge of the arrangements.

Hassie McCarty
Hassie McCarty, 87 of Jacksboro, passed away peacefully Aug. 2, 2008 at St. Mary’s of Knoxville. She went to be with her Lord and Savior, family and friends after a lengthy illness.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, three brothers and many friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Jessie Bolton and fiancé, Scott Stalnaker of Jacksboro; grandson, John A. Steakley of Marietta, GA.
Graveside services were held Aug. 4 at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. John Steakley gave a special eulogy.
Holley Gamble Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Henry Lee Messamore
Henry Lee Messamore, 50 of Lake City, passed away Aug. 9, 2008 at his residence. He was born May 18, 1958 in Roane County to the late Charlie and Viola Hinkle Messamore. He was of the Baptist faith. He loved fishing, chickens, watching wrestling and talking to his son.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Edward Messamore.
He is survived by his son, Kipper Presley and wife, Tamara of Maryville; sisters, Barbara Richard and husband, Joey of Dalton, GA, Linda Lindsey and husband, Randy of Lake City; nephew, Randy Braden; niece, Brandy Braden; step-children, Tonya McClung and husband, Michael of Clinton, Tina Mae Gross of Lake City, John Austin of Clinton, Trina Austin of Lake City; step-grandchildren, Katelyn, Dakota, Nila, Aaron, Preston and Jordan; several great nieces and nephews and many other relatives and special friends.
Funeral services were held Aug. 13 in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bubby Hooks officiating. Interment icon was in the Sunset Cemetery.
Hatmaker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Nellie B. Miles
Nellie B. Miles passed away Aug. 3, 2008, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Miles; parents, Stanley and Leona Edwards Schubert.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Shear and husband, Patrick; granddaughter, Melanie Pelcha and husband, John; grandson, David Shear and wife, Shanda; great grandchildren, Chadwick, Zachary, and Jacob Pelcha, Christopher, Nicholas, and Kaytlynn Shear all of Ohio; several other relatives and friends.
Graveside Services and interment icon were held Aug. 8 in the Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. Danny King officiating.
Walters Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
