Spencer Ray Carl Vess, age 6 months of Knoxville, was taken by angels to heaven on Oct. 4, 2006 at Children’s Hospital in Knoxville. He was born April, 8, 2006 in Knoxville. “Little Man” will be dearly missed by his parents, and the rest of his family members.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Mary Ellen Trentham and grandfather, Clyde Meeks Sr.
He is survived by his parents, David and Samantha Meeks Vess of Knoxville; sister, Destinee Vess of Knoxville; grandparents, Shirley and Clyde Meeks of Knoxville, Carolyn Trentham of Knoxville; great grandparents, Carl Trentham of Knoxville; Albert and Sarah Clemmer of Knoxville, Martha Meeks of Knoxville; uncle, Matt Vess of Knoxville, Susan and Tim Marsh of Knoxville; great uncles, Ron, Carl, Terry and Ples Trentham of Knoxville, Chris Hicks of Knoxville; god mothers, Mary Eiman and Shelia Rodriguez of Knoxville; cousin, Dylan Marsh of Knoxville.
Graveside services were held Oct. 6 at the New Hope Cemetery in Rockwood with Pastor Phil Jones officiating.
Hatmaker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Geneva Wylie
Geneva Wylie, age 94 of Claiborne County passed away Oct. 1, 2006. She was born Sept. 4, 1912 in Claiborne County. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Minerva Baker Wylie. She was a member of Gap Creek Baptist Church and Claiborne County Retired Teachers Association and was a librarian at Powell Valley High School for many years.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph, Roger, Park and Earl Wylie.
Funeral services were held Oct. 3 at Reece Funeral Home with the Rev. Clay Herrell officiating. Interment
was in the Kibert Cemetery.
Reece Funeral Home and Valley Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Nora E. “Tina” Yoakum
Nora E. “Tina” Yoakum, age 60 of Cumberland Gap passed away Oct. 2, 2006 at her home. She was born July 31, 1946 in Middlesboro, KY.
She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Powers; two infant brothers; grandson, Michael Yoakum.
She is survived by her husband, J.C. Yoakum, Sr. of Tiprell Road, Cumberland Gap; mother, Mamie Helton Powers; son, J.C. “Pete” Yoakum, Jr. and wife, Vickie of NC; daughters, Patty Alonzo of Ft. Wayne, IN, Joyce Yoakum of Cumberland Gap; brothers, William, Roy and Hubert Powers of Middlesboro, KY; sisters, Rose Martin of Pace, FL, Mary Thacker of Cumberland Gap; 12 grandchildren; one great grandchild and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Oct. 4 at the Reece Valley Chapel with the Rev. Randy Duncan officiating. Interment
was in the Yoakum Cemetery.

Brenda Annette Adkins
Brenda Annette Adkins, age 58 of West Memphis passed away Feb. 15, 2008 at her home.
She was a homemaker and member of First United Pentecostal Church.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Carmen Irene Adkins.
She is survived by her husband, Elbert Adkins; two daughters, Shelia Annette Brouillette of Pittsburg, California, Teresa Marie Ray of West Memphis; sister, Ellen Loraine McVay of Memphis; brother, Michael Malcomb McClellan of Memphis; grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Maness, Matthew Adkins Maness and Whitney Marie Ray; a host of friends and family.
Funeral Services were held Feb. 23 at Harp Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Hugh Adkins officiating. Interment
was at Rogerston Cemetery.
The family requests that memorials be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Harp funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Goldie Ruth Brown
Goldie Ruth Brown, age 75 formerly of LaFollette passed away Feb. 20, 2008 at her home in Dolton, Illinois.
She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Hammond, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by parents, Arthur & Mary Wilhoit Burris; sisters, Thelma Lewallen and Wilma Burris; brother, Jr. Burris.
She is survived by daughter, Debra Bank and husband, Bruce of Florence,Kentucky; son, Sam Brown and wife Wendy of Whiting, Indiana; grandchildren, Mary and Grace Bank and Joseph and Heidi Brown; brother, Edsel Burris of Knoxville; sisters , Mable Lovely of LaFollette and Helen Stevens of Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Funeral services were held at Cross Chapel with Clifford Holms officiating. Interment
was in Willoughby Cemetery in Jacksboro.
Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Louise M. Sharp Byrge
Louise M. Sharp Byrge, age 69 of Lake City, passed away Feb. 22, 2008 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.
Louise was born May 26, 1937 in Anderson County to the late Ned and Phyllis Duncan Sharp. She was a member of the Longfield Baptist Church. She enjoyed making flower arrangements and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Anthony Byrge.
She is survived by her husband, John “Tom” Byrge; son David Byrge and wife Pam; brother, J.L. Sharp and wife, Maxie; sister, Nancy Shrull and husband, Ken; and grandchildren, Russell and Matt Byrge all of Lake City.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Methodist Medical Center for their loving kindness and care given to Louise.
Funeral services were held Feb. 23 at Hatmaker Funeral Home with Rev. James Lane and Rev. Don Martin officiating. Interment
was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake City with Rev. Wayne Phillips officiating. Hatmaker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Rev. Ralph Cordell
Rev. Ralph Cordell, age 85 of LaFollette passed away Feb. 22, 2008 at the St. Mary’s Health and Rehab.
He was a member of West LaFollette Baptist Church. He preached his first sermon September 12, 1943 and was ordained July 2, 1944. He pastored Big Creek Gap and was the first pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in LaFollette. He was director of missions for Campbell County for 30 years. He belonged to the Campbell County Masonic Lodge # 778 F & AM and was a Shriner.
He was preceded in death by 2 infant daughters, Phyllis Ann and Connie Gail Cordell; parents, John and Leona Nelson Cordell; mother and father-in-law, Fletcher and Ethel Grant; brothers, James, Kenneth and Evan Cordell; sister, Jean Cordell.
He is survived by wife of 61 years, Helen Cordell; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Richard Enix of Lake City, Margaret Davis of Orange Park, Florida, Doris and Mickey Sharp of LaFollette, Debbie and Jay Ragain of Great Lakes, Illinois; sons and daughters- in-law, Paul and Loretta Cordell of LaFollette, Steve and Emily Cordell of Statesboro, Georgia; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Vincent, Naomi King, Lorene Leach, Dorothy Tackett all of LaFollette; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Feb. 24 at West LaFollette Baptist Church with Rev. H. Lee Ray and Rev. Jim Wilcox officiating. Interment
was at Woodlawn Cemetery. Campbell County ministers were honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to Ralph Cordell Mission Scholarship Fund at 707 W. Central Ave LaFollette, TN. 37766
