Olivia Mae Showalter, age 12 days, of Jacksboro, passed away Jan. 27, 2006 at U.T. Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Richard Stein.
She is survived by her parents, Will and Patty Showalter; brother, Robert Virts; sister, Kayla Virts, all of Jacksboro; grandparents, Tommy Chapman, LaFollette, Dorothy Chapman and Vicky Cooke, both of Baltimore, MD

David L. Smith
David Lee Smith, 92, of Lutheran Home-East, Hickory, died Jan. 25, 2006 at Catawba Valley Medical Center after a period of declining health. He was born March 12, 1913, in Catawba County, N.C.
He was the son of the late John F. and Mary Seabock Smith. A lifelong member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, where he served in various capacities, he retired as an industrial engineer after 50 years at Hickory Chair Company. He was a graduate of the Hickory High School class of 1931.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Poovey Smith; two brothers; and two sisters.
His survivors include a son, Larry K. Smith and wife, Julia, of LaFollette; daughters, Lorraine Yount and husband, Darvin, of Conover, N.C., Mary Louise Good of Hickory, and Carolyn Robinson and husband, Pete, of Newton, N.C.; sister, Virginia Deal, of Hickory; grandchildren, Dr. Donald Good and wife, Jan, Debbie Heavner and husband, Lee, Joyce McNeill and husband, Mack, Timothy Yount and wife, Carla, Kevin Yount and wife, Michelle, Cindy Card and husband, Mack, Amy Smith, Leslie Bohannon and husband, Braxton, Lara Edwards and husband, Tilmon, Heather Packard and husband, Chris, Lee Robinson and wife, Sandy; Jack Robinson, Donna Simmons and husband, Mark; 26 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. David R. Keck and Vicar Tim Bean on Jan. 28 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Murrell Eldridge Vowell
Murrell Eldridge Vowell, age 84 of Lake City, passed away Jan. 28, 2006 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was born January 13, 1922 He was a life long resident of Coal Creek/Lake City. He started his career with the DOE from 1942-44 as a machinist, working on the Manhattan project at the Y-12 processing plant. After World War II, he returned to the family tradition of working the local coal mines. He was a survivor of the 1945 mine explosion at the Beech Grove coal mine, which left him severally injured. His disability did not affect his ability to continue everyday life. He finished his career with the Anderson County Highway Department and took an active part in the local elections, campaigning for several different candidates throughout the years. He enjoyed farming, including raising several prize winning chickens, guinea fowl and pigs, and had a garden until a few years ago. He was a member of the Pine Hill Missionary Baptist church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Georgia Disney Vowell; daughter, Peggy Vowell; parents, Albert and Bessie O’Dell Vowell; brothers, Charles and Clyde Vowell; sister, Pauline Tackett; step brothers, Elbert and Millard Hatmaker.
He is survived by his sons, David Vowell of Lake City; daughters, Teresa Ledbetter and husband, Tim of Cumming, GA, Lisa Carden and husband, Mark of Lake City; sisters, Lola Adkins of Lebanon, TN, Mary Renner, Evansville, IN, Nevaline Jennings, Lake City and Wanda Wilson, Lake City; grandchildren, Stephanie Ledbetter, Cumming, GA, Christopher Ledbetter, Cumming, GA, Mark Anthony Carden, Lake City, Eric Carden, Lake City; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were Jan. 30 in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Harness and Rev. Lynn Mowery officiating. Interment
was in the Leach Cemetery.

Richard “Rick” Andrews
Richard “Rick” Andrews age 61 of LaFollette passed away Feb. 26, 2006 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed his Harley Davidson, his horses and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He worked for Ideal Florist in LaFollette and for Staples Savard in Middleboro, Mass.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Andrews of LaFollette; daughter, Kelly Kowalczyk of Batavia, Ny; daughter and son in law, Margie and Roger Johnson of Ackron, NY; son and daughter in law, Richard L. and Lauren Pratt of Taunton, Mass; daughters, Karen L. Pratt of Taunton, Mass, Susan P. Pratt of Lake Wales, Fla; eleven grandchildren; parents, Richard T. and Irene Bolster Andrews; brother, Frank Andrews of New Bedford, Mass; mother in law, Dorothy Kingsley of Mass; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
A private memorial service will be announced at a later date by Martin Wilson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that all donations be made to the Cancer Society. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Gloria Shearer Baird
Gloria Shearer Baird, age 75 of Fremont, OH, formerly of Elk Valley passed away Feb. 21, 2006 at the Countryside Continuing Care Center in Fremont, OH. She was born in Harlan, KY, the daughter of the late Hiram and Lily Lawson Shearer. She was married to the late Harold Baird in April of 1948 in Elk Valley. She was an employee of the Eaton-Singer Company for many years before retiring in 1990.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Weiss and husband, David of Fremont, OH; three grandchildren; brothers, Hiram Shearer of Cincinatti, OH and Howard Shearer of Clyde, OH; sisters, Anne Baird and husband, Paul of Lenior, TN, Geraldine Sharp of Dayton, OH and Clara Sue Alexander of Bellevue, OH.
Funeral services were held Feb. 25 at the Cox and Son Chapel with Harold Norman officiating. Internment was in the Valley View Cemetery.

Henry Clifford Bolton
Henry Clifford Bolton, age 73 of LaFollette, passed away Feb. 28, 2006 at his home. He was a member of Habersham Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Gracie Bolton; sisters, Christine Ridenour and Rita Jean Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Lillie Bolton of LaFollette; children, Gracie Bolton, Betty Ayers and husband, Sam, Henrietta Phillips and husband, Tim, Clifford Lee Bolton and wife, Angie, Thomas Wayne Bolton, Pamela Bolton, and Debbie Cook and husband, Michael, all of LaFollette; eight grandchildren; brother, George Bolton and Willard Bolton, both of LaFollette; sister, Juanita Lloyd of LaFollette; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on March 2 at Walters Chapel with Rev. James Bolton and Rev. Thomas Kidwell officiating. Interment

Ben Junior Collins
Ben Junior Collins, age 53 of LaFollette passed away Feb. 27, 2006 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County. He was of the Church of God faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grover Collins; half brother, Bill Collins.
He is survived by his sons, Brian Collins of OH, William Collins and Ben Collins Jr. both of LaFollette; mother, Mary Collins of LaFollette; brothers, Bill Collins of Duff, Jonah Collins of LaFollette, Gary Collins of OH; sister, Shirley Marlow of LaFollette; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are March 2 in the Martin Wilson Chapel. Interment
will be in the Bolton Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Graham and Rev. Bill Collins officiating.

Rufus Davis
Rufus Davis, age 57 of LaFollette, formerly of Eagan passed away Feb. 24, 2006 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County. He was born October 11, 1948 at Pruden, the son of Edith Goff Davis and the late Kala Davis. He was a member of the Valley Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Davis.
He is survived by his daughters, Emmy Jennings of Eagan and Melena McCloud of LaFollette; grandchildren, Holly McCloud, Lonnie McCloud, Haley McCloud, all of LaFollette; mother, Edith Davis of Eagan; sisters, Lucille Partin of Morristown, Martha Edwards of Eagan and Ellen Hamblin of Clairfield, Dorothy Hatfield of Eagan; brothers, R.L. Davis, Speed Davis and Lonzo Davis, all of Eagan; a very special girlfriend, Anne Wilburn of LaFollettte.
Funeral services were held Feb. 28 at Clairfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Horace Partin and Rev. Terry King officiating. Interment
was in the Hatfield Cemetery.

Arthur Ray “Mutt” Hatfield
Arthur Ray “Mutt” Hatfield, of Newport, MI, formerly of LaFollette passed away Feb. 27, 2006 at his home after a three year battle with cancer. He was retired from General Motors with 34 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Evelyn Hatfield; brothers, Jeff and William Hatfield.
He is survived by his children, Tim and Kari Hatfield, Donna and Chuck Russell, Mark Hatfield and Dee, Kenny and Marcia Hatfield, and Chad Hatfield; grandsons, Daniel, P. J. and Zachary; granddaughters, Katie, Kaytlynn, Kennedy, Brylan, and Brianna; sister, Clara Mae Ivey and husband, James of LaFollette; brothers, Pete Hatfield and wife, Molly and Emol Hatfield and wife, Wilma all of LaFollette; several nieces, nephews and a host of other friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be March 3 at 1 p.m. at Rupp Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Southerland officiating. Interment
will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle, MI.
