Rosella Carpenter Payne
Rosella Carpenter Payne, age 76 of Jellico, formerly of Pineville, KY passed away Jan. 7, 2006 at the Jellico Community Hospital. She was born September 8, 1929 the daughter of the late Dewey Carpenter and Loretta Hart Carpenter. She attended Tannery Hollow Church in Jellico. She worked for Bell Whitley and the Pineville Community Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruby Jean Carpenter, Marie Lowe and Julie Roberts; brother, Robert Carpenter.
She is survived by her son and daughter in law, James Dewey and Janice Payne of Harrogate; daughter, Theresa Overbey of Jellico; grandchildren, Joy Denise Sweat of Harrogate, James Dexter Payne of Middlesboro, Joshua Kenneth Overbey of Jellico and Kayleigh Joann Overbey of Jellico; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Jan. 10 at the Creech-Durham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Murphy Buell and Rev. Lester Cox officiating. Interment
will be in the Pineville Memorial Cemetery.

Dr. Charles Alvin Prater
Dr. Charles Alvin Prater, age 89 of Knoxville, passed away Jan. 2, 2006 at his home. He was born on April 26, 1916 in Chattanooga to James Lemuel Prater and Rachel Chambers Prater.
Dr. Prater graduated from Washington and Lee University. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from UT College of Medicine, Memphis. He then completed a one-year internship at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga before entering the U.S. Army Medical Corps. Dr. Prater served with the 744th Light Tank Battalion in the European Theatre Operation. He was in five campaigns including the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. Dr. Prater was awarded the Bronze Star for valor, Combat Medical Badge and Victory Medal.
In 1946, he became a partner with Drs. Carl Ausmus and Ned Watts at the Jellico Hospital where he remained until his retirement in March, 1993. He and his wife then moved to Knoxville and became members of Central Baptist Church of Bearden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond, James and Harry Prater.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Nancy Salley Prater; his sons, Mike Prater of Jellico, Robert Prater and wife Lee of Powell; daughters, Salley Harris and husband Dan of Knoxville, Margaret Wright of Newport News, VA, Martha Dwyer and husband Bill of Louisville, KY; grandsons, Keith Harris and wife Michelle of Knoxville, LCPL, Eric Wright of Cherry Point, NC and Will Dwyer of Louisville, KY; granddaughters, Salley Nelson of Knoxville, Sarah Wright of Blacksburg, VA and Allison Harris of Knoxville; great grandchildren, Sidney Nelson and Bryson Harris; brothers, Roy and Ron Prater of Georgia.
Funeral services were held Jan. 6 at the Highland Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Richard Allison officiating. A committal service with full military honors provided by the East Tennessee Veteran Honor Guard was held at the Tennessee Veteran Cemetery.

Curtis Glenn Rose
Curtis Glenn Rose, age 82 of Highcliff passed away December 31, 2005 at the Veterans Medical Center in Nashville. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II.
He is survived by his sister, Dora Rubio, Tuscaloosa, Ala; special niece, Virginia Campbell and husband, Floyd of Hillsdale, MI; several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Jan. 3 at the Llewellyn Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie Partin officiating. Interment
was in the Lot Cemetery with military honors by the Campbell County Honor Guard.

William Kyle Thurman
William Kyle Thurman, age 67 passed away at his home in Dolan Springs, AZ on December 10, 2005 He was born August 18, 1938 in Elk Valley. He was the son of the late Aaron Thurman and Ruby Baird Thurman of Swanton, OH.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Thurman; half-brother, Bobby Lowe; one nephew and two nieces.
He is survived by his wife, Adaline (Baker)Thurman, Dolan Springs, AZ; son, Michael; daughter, Michelle; brothers, Claude “Black” Thurman of Elk Valley, Aaron Thurman, Jr. of Swanton, OH, Sam Thurman and wife, Julie of Lyon, OH; sisters, Judy Terry and husband, Austin of Delta, OH, Stella Belcher and husband, Jim and Peggy Johnson and husband, Billy of Swanton, OH; five nephews, one niece and two great nephews; a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service is planned for Jan. 23 at 12:40 p.m.(pacific time) at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada with full military honors. A memorial service will be held in Elk Valley at a later date.

Rita G. Suttles Trammell
Rita G. Suttles Trammell, age 45, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 5, 2006 at the U.T. Medical Center. She attended Pine Grove Baptist Church. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She also loved crocheting.
Preceded in death by her daughter, Alicia G. Rutherford; nephew, Jesse P. Johnson; father, Leslie Dean Suttles.
She is survived by her parents, Paul and Beulah Wilson; sisters and brother in laws, Tom and Paula Johnson, Everette and Sarah McCloud all of Jacksboro; nieces, Amanda and Ashley Grodenan of Jacksboro, Meagan McCloud of Knoxville; nephews, Matthew Grodenan, Zachary Johnson and Justin McCloud all of Jacksboro; grandmother, Opal Franklin of Memphis; aunts, Chrystal Aslinger of Caryville,Vivian Partin Collins of Louisville, KY, Carolann Hall of LaFollette, Cherly Suttles of Memphis; uncles, Truman Suttles of Memphis, James E. Wilson, Evertte L. Wilson, Franklin E. Wilson, Robert Wilson and Henry Hamblin, all of LaFollette; a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services were Jan. 9 in the Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev. Charles Goins officiating. Interment
was in the Bakers Forge Cemetery.

Dorothy Bernice Parolari Walters
Dorothy Bernice Parolari Walters, age 71, of LaFollette, went to be with the Lord early in the morning on Jan. 7, 2006 after an extended illness. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a longtime member of Elm Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Arthur Walters; parents, Charlie and Bertha Green Parolari; father-in-law, Hobart Walters; sisters, Joannah Goins and Helen Miller.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur (T.B.) Walters, LaFollette; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Scott and JoAnna Walters, Kingsport, Jeffrey and Tammy Walters, Knoxville; six grandchildren, Christopher Scott, Elizabeth Ann, and Nicholas Arthur, of Kingsport, Jenna Taylor, David Josiah and Jonathon Ethan, of Knoxville; sisters, Betty Parolari Mantooth, Knoxville, Mary Parolari Davis, Calvin, KY, Norma Parolari Harris, Knoxville; brother, Charles W. (Buddy) Parolari, LaFollette; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Jan. 9 in the Cross Chapel with the Rev. Landon Lane officiating. Interment
was in the Walters Cemetery in Calloway, KY.

Billie Jean Herron Wright
Billie Jean Herron Wright, age 66 of Williamstown, KY, formerly of Jellico passed away Jan. 9, 2006 at her family residence. She was born March 25, 1939 in Jellico, the daughter of the late Grady and Vagil Lambdin Herron.
She is survived by her husband, Jasper Wright of Willliamstown, KY; sons, Glenn Wright of Ludlow, KY, Marvin Wright of London, KY, Jerry Wright of Williamstown, KY; daguther, Janice Wright Cox of Morning View, KY, April Wright of Richwood, KY; nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; brothers, Virgil Herron of Madisonville, Bob Herron of Norwood, OH, Johnny Wayne Herron of Jellico.
Funeral services will be Jan. 12 at the Cox and Son Chapel with the Rev. Paul Chitwood officiating. Interment
was in the Douglas Cemetery.

Kenneth White Bartley
Kenneth White Bartley, age 83, of LaFollette, passed away peacefully on Jan. 26, 2006 at the UT Medical Center in Knoxville after a short illness.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the military police in the European Theater. He was a member of LaFollette Lodge #623. He was a 38-year employee of the Kern’s Bakery through the 50’s and 70’s and many who knew him will recall his cheerful whistling through the streets of LaFollette as he made his daily deliveries around the area. At the time of his death, he was the co-owner of Kenny’s Pioneer and Bartley’s Self-Storage. He was a long-time member of the LaFollette United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Pauline (Polly) Bartley who died in June 2003 and earlier by his parents, two sisters, and a brother.
Among his survivors are his twin children who loved him very much: son, Kenny Michael Bartley of LaFollette and daughter, Sherry Bartley Wright and husband Doug Wright of Clinton; grandchildren, Kristen Wright Heffern and husband Todd Heffern of Johnson City and Kenneth Stuart Bartley; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Woodson Bartley of LaFollette and Rosalie Edwards of Escondido, CA and several nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts.
Funeral services were held Jan. 29 at the LaFollette Methodist Church with the Rev. Danny Hensley officiating. Interment
was in the Beeler Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Bartley’s memory will gratefully be accepted at the LaFollette United Methodist Church, 808 East Central, LaFollette, TN 37766.
