Tennessee, U.S., Delayed Birth Records, 1869-1909
Rev. Glenn A. Grubb, Sr.

Rev. Glenn A. Grubb, Sr., born icon May 25, 1928, was released from this life May 23, 2012, to be embraced by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whose good news he preached for 60 years. Preacher Grubb was an avid fisherman who loved overnight trips to Fontana with his sons and friends. He was most recently a member of First Baptist Church, Friendsville. Rev. Grubb led three Southern Baptist churches as pastor throughout his lifetime of ministry. As founding pastor of Unity Baptist Church in Maryville, he served that church in the 1950s and 60s. He finished his high school education in 1958 at Harrison-Chilhowee Baptist Academy (now The King’s Academy) in Seymour, Tenn., and earned the Bachelor of Arts from Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City, Tenn. He moved with his family to California in 1965 to serve as pastor of Broadway Baptist Church (later Berkeley Avenue Baptist Church) in Turlock, Calif., until 1970. During that time, he earned the Master of Divinity from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, Calif. He returned to East Tennessee to become pastor of Madison Avenue Baptist Church, Maryville, and led that church in a remarkable growth period until his retirement in 1995. Rev. Grubb preached in hundreds of churches throughout his lifetime, and served seven area churches in interim pastoral roles. Fulfilling the Great Commission of Christ was his passion, and he eagerly took the Gospel to all who would receive, whether a wealthy businessman, a government leader or a penniless beggar. He took that good news message everywhere — preaching countless revival meetings throughout the hills and cities of Tennessee, Alaska, California, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Dakota and Texas, and in the countries of Brazil, France, Ivory Coast, Russia and South Korea. He led numerous mission teams to Brazil over a 28-year period, where he conducted many evangelistic meetings and led in the construction of 51 chapels. He is predeceased by his parents, Walter Reece Grubb and Iva Lee Cable Grubb; and his wife of 63 years, Kathleen Long Grubb. He is survived by his three sisters and their husbands, Althea and Ernest Boruff (Maryville), Pat and Bob Sharp (Sanford, Fla.) and Betty and Larry Waldo (Maryville); five children, Al and Debbie Grubb (Maryville), Walter and Diane Grubb (Seymour), loving caregiver and only daughter, Faye Grubb (Maryville), Mark and Alisa Grubb (Gallatin, Tenn.), and Stan Grubb (Knoxville); eight grandchildren, Bethany and Chad Riddle (Maryville), Christopher and Annette Grubb (Maryville), Nathan Grubb (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Michael and Amanda Grubb (Knoxville), Amanda Morrow (Maryville), Megan and Eric Baumann (Powell, Tenn.), Ryan Grubb (Maryville) and Benjamin Grubb (Fort Worth, Texas); seven great-grandchildren, Brentley and Ansley Riddle, and Foster, Katie Belle, Theodore, Parker and Jonah Grubb, all of Maryville. Glenn also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and in-laws that he cherished. Friends may call at their convenience anytime Friday at Smith Funeral and Cremation Service. A celebration of Rev. Grubb’s life will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at Smith Trinity Chapel with Dr. Charles Sullivan and Dr. Mark Grubb officiating. Family and friends will assemble for interment icon at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Grandview Cemetery, Maryville. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Those who knew Mac Pate as family, as a farmer, or as a friend, knew him to be an individual who remained constant during life in his determination to be a successful farmer and a leader for the good of his fellow man. Just as these great mountains rise in the distance, Mac Pate rose up during his lifetime to give strength and leadership at many levels.
