Carrie Freeman Quillin

Carrie Freeman Quillin, age 97, of Alcoa, was gently called home to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 8, 2011, with her adoring children each holding her hands. Carrie was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Carrieā€™s devoted children lovingly gave of themselves to provide her nearly constant care for almost three years. She was a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church. Originally from Tellico Plains, she was preceded in death by husband, Kenneth Warren Quillin; parents, Rev. James Wesley Freeman and Julie Prock Freeman, very close sister, Zonie Freeman Evans, and numerous other brothers and sisters. She is survived by: son, Robert W. Quillin and wife, Dr. Sandra E. Quillin; daughter, Faye E. Hacker, and husband, Dr. Robert A Hacker; grandchildren, Robert W. Quillin II (wife Jill), Tracey B. Quillin (wife Maira), David A. Quillin (wife Dr. Renee), Stephanie N. Hacker, Natalie M. Hacker, Nicolas D. Hacker; great-grandchildren, Ross A. Quillin and Mary Lyn E. Quillin; sisters, Mary Etta Quinley and Naomi Lane; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. at Sherwood Chapel on Alcoa Highway, Tuesday, October 11, 2011, followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m., with Rev. Al Shaver officiating. Interment icon will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.

Deborah Marie Whitehead Kelly

Deborah Marie Whitehead Kelly, 46, of Knoxville, passed away Friday, October 7, 2011, at UT Hospital. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Marie Carter, Jack Carter and Fern Whitehead. She is survived by her children, Jennifer Bennett, Danielle Bradley and Sally Bradley; grandchildren, Melody Bennett, and Johnathan Bennett, and Kylera Denson; mother and stepfathers, Mildred Whitehead Gibson and husband Fred, Charlie Driggers; sister and brother-in-law, Amanda and Bobby Hendrick; nephews, Austin and Joseph; fiancé, Judd Pinkerton; special friend, “Papaw.” Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Memorial Funeral Home in Maryville with Revs. Jewell and Kenneth McCollum officiating. Mrs. Kelly will be cremated. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Home 865-983-2050.

Willie Pearl Badgett

Willie Pearl Badgett, age 61, of Louisville, passed away Friday, October 7, 2011, at Loudon Healthcare Center. She was a member of St. Peter Primitive Baptist Church in Alcoa. Willie Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, Willie P. “Geech” Baker and Geraldine Gainer. Survivors include her husband, Jacob Badgett of Alcoa, her daughter Melissa George and husband David George, her son Tim Baker and wife Dusti Baker; grandchildren, Cameron George, Caden George, Austin Webber, MacKenna Webber, Lindy Webber, Darius Jones; sisters, Maggie Williams of Alcoa, Alberta Brantley of Knoxville, and Greta McGhee of Knoxville; brother, Nathaniel “Flick” Baker of Louisville; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends starting at 1:30 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, at St. Peter Primitive Baptist Church in Alcoa, with Elder Leander Blackman officiating. The internment will immediately follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. The body will be available for viewing at noon, Monday, October 10, at Foothills Funeral Home, Maryville. Wilbur Lawrence Effler

Wilbur Lawrence Effler, age 90, of Maryville, passed away Friday, October 7, 2011. Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Smith Trinity Chapel with his grandson, Rev. Danny Fernandez and Rev. Rex Rogers officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at Grandview Mausoleum Chapel for the Entombment with Military Honors. Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. prior to the service on Tuesday at Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000

Wilbur Lawrence Effler

Wilbur Lawrence Effler, age 90, of Maryville, passed away Friday, October 7, 2011. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church and was retired from ALCOA. Mr. Effler was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Submarine Service serving during WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Emma (Alice) Brockman Effler; parents, Thomas and Georgia Effler; brothers, Clell and Werner Effler, and Harold (Trig) Burchfield; one great-grandchild, N'Kosi McKever. Survivors include children: Robert Henry Effler and wife Linda, Wilbur Lawrence Jr. and wife Judy, Wilda Fernandez, Nancy Smith and husband Steve, Cathi Barr and husband Steve, Betty Thompson, and Sandra Schwartz and husband Van; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral service 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2011, Smith Trinity Chapel, with his grandson, Rev. Danny Fernandez and Rev. Rex Rogers officiating. James Ab Spencer

James Ab Spencer, 81, of Maryville, Tenn., died October 29, 2011, at Blount Memorial Hospital. Ab was born icon April 11, 1930, in Bessemer Ala. He graduated from the University of Alabama and retired from ALCOA after 38 years of service in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Connecticut. Ab served as a deacon and elder in the Presbyterian church and was a current member of New Providence. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann Cooley Spencer; children, Diane and Bob Stein, James and Kathy Spencer, Ellen Spencer, David and Lea Spencer; grandchildren, Zachary and Margot Stein, Maggie Stein, James Spencer, Justin Spencer, Andrew Metzger, Jacob Metzger, Marie Spencer and Louise Spencer; great grandchildren, Cadance Spencer, Lillian Spencer and Benjamin Stein; brother, Floy Spencer; brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Louise Cooley; sister-in-law, Mary Cooley; nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held at New Providence Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at 2 p.m. with Reverend Doctor Emily Anderson, Reverend Steven Musick, and Reverend Doctor Stan Rushing officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity or the American Parkinsons Association. Danny Edward Woods

Danny Edward Woods, age 56, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2011. Survivors are son, Josh Woods; granddaughter, Elyza Woods; niece and nephews. A post memorial is set for Saturday, Oct. 1, at the family home, 116 Sundance Road, Maryville.

Jackson Richard Chester

Jackson Richard Chester, age 70, of Seymour, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Beatrice Chester; brothers, James Dewy Chester and Walter Chester; and sisters, Jane Freeman and Ollie Rose. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Chester; sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Valerie Chester, Jackie and Diane Chester, and Joe and Brenda Chester; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Randy Vineyard; grandchildren, Ryan Chester, Shawn Chester, Tyler Chester, Cassie Vineyard and Leslie Chester; great-grandchildren, Jake, Jared and Jada Chester; three brothers; seven sisters; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2011, at Miller Funeral Home Cedar Chapel, Rev. Gwendell Gravitt and Rev. John Whitehead officiating. Rev. Julia Lynn ‘Jewel’ Quinton

The Rev. Julia Lynn “Jewel” Quinton, 51, of Lawton, Okla., died suddenly Wednesday, September 21, 2011, while visiting friends in Knoxville. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2011, in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home in Union City, Tenn. Burial will follow in Terrace Hill Cemetery icon in Troy, Tenn. The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Jewel was born icon March 31, 1960, in Takoma Park, Md., daughter of Dolores (Walsh) Quinton of South Fulton and the late Eugene Brown “Jack” Quinton. Rev. Quinton was a graduate of Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn.. She was a recording artist who published her own CD “One True God” and was often called upon to share her gift of music for worship at countless gatherings, churches and conferences. Jewel served under and was prayerfully supported by The Missionary Church International. Although her ministry and life was well-traveled and far reaching for the past several years, she has lived and served in Oklahoma. In her early years among the Native American families, she was taken as a daughter by the late John and Marlene Haumpy. This is considered an honor among Native Americans. In the same manner, Jewel developed many friendships which led her to take Jason Stick as a brother. Sue Oyebi took her as a daughter. She was well known throughout the area for service and music. She was a blessing to all she met and will be remembered for her servant’s heart. In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sisters, Laura Quinton of Orlando, Fla., and Lisa Morgan and her husband Joseph of Dresden; three brothers, the Rev. John Quinton and his wife Gail of Dresden, Kenneth Quinton and his wife Lana of Sturgis, Ky., and Bill Quinton and his wife Heather of Union City; and several nieces and nephews, Nicholas Quinton, Brock Quinton, Katie Quinton, Sarah Quinton, Luke Quinton, Noah Quinton, Magan Wills, Alayna Owens, Joe Werner, Dillon Quinton, Levi Owens and Myra Morgan. Her many children like Jewel herself belong to others. She loved them, nurtured them and influenced them in a Godly way that will be known for generations. Matthew 19:14. In lieu of flowers or in memory a donation may be made to The Mission Church International in Jewel’s name for her neediest children. Roy ‘Bob’ Russell Newman

Roy “Bob” Russell Newman, age 68, of Friendsville, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2011, at East Tennessee Medical Center in Madisonville. He was a member of Notchy Creek Baptist Church in Madisonville and Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Maryville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ike and Stella Rogers Newman. He is survived by his children, Michelle Denise Newman and Julie Harmon Avison; grandson, Jacob Evan Newman; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2011, at Notchy Creek Baptist Church in Madisonville. Arrangements provided by Miller Funeral Home, Maryville, 865-982-6041

Lester O. Allmon

Lester O. Allmon, age 80, of Maryville, went home to be with his Lord Monday, September 19, 2011, at his home. He attended Twin Oaks Baptist Church, and had done evangelistic ministry for the past 50 years. He pastured Alleghany Baptist Church, Birchfield Baptist Church, and filled in at Four Mile Baptist Church, while they were seeking a new pastor. He loved to travel with his family to preach, play his guitar and sing. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korea Conflict, and a member of Mt. View Masonic Lodge # 519. He worked at several car dealerships as a mechanic and retired from Blount Farmers Co-Op. Preceded in death by his mother, Gussie Lee Chastain Allmon; father, Roy Allmon; brother, R.J. Allmon; sister, Louise Daugherty; brother-in-law, James Daughtery; granddaughter, April Nicole Allmon; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mandy and Anderson Tilley. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mable Jean Tilley Allmon; children, Mike and wife, Beverly Anderson Allmon, Debra and husband, Doyle Gray; grandchildren, Brian and Keri Brewer Gray, Brandon Gray, Kasey and Grant Bland; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arnold and Eva Tilley; sister-in-law, Lena Allmon and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 8 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Tyson Matoy and Rev. Mike McClure officiating.
