Roy “Bob” Russell Newman, age 68, of Friendsville, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2011, at East Tennessee Medical Center in Madisonville. He was a member of Notchy Creek Baptist Church in Madisonville and Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Maryville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ike and Stella Rogers Newman. He is survived by his children, Michelle Denise Newman and Julie Harmon Avison; grandson, Jacob Evan Newman; and several nieces and nephews. Larca Whaley Rogers, age 94, of Seymour, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011. She was a member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Rogers enjoyed hiking in the Smokies and reading. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Wade Rogers; daughter, Alma Sue Rogers; parents, James West and Rosala Whaley; brothers, Arvin, Herbert, and Ennis; sisters, Margie, Imogene, and Ola; grandson, David Paul McMahan; daughters-in-law, Erma and Linda Rogers. Mitch Day
Mitch Day, age 50, was born
August 12, 1961, passed away at Blount Memorial Hospital on Monday, September 19, 2011. He was the beloved and devoted husband of Valerie and stepfather to Sarah, Hilary, Zac, Tyler and Josh. He loved fishing and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Mitch devoted his life to serving those in need. He was counsel, friend, and mentor to hundreds of veterans and men in our area. He was a 1979 graduate of Friendsville High School and 1988 graduate of Lincoln Memorial University. He attended St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Eva Vaughan and Charles Claude Day and Mary Oleda and Glen Bohannon. Mitch will be lovingly missed by his wife, Valerie; and stepdaughter, Sarah Parsley; mother, Jean Day; father and stepmother, Leroy and Wanda Day; brother and sister-in-law, Jeff Day and Lisa Beal; stepchildren, Hilary Collins, Zachary Dunn, Joshua Dunn and Tyler Bain. Jo Edith Worth Large, age 75, of Maryville, died Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at home, surrounded by family and friends. She was born
December 21, 1935, in Newport, Tenn. Her family moved to Walland in the early ’40s and then moved to Rule Street in Maryville. She graduated from Everett High School in 1954 and Andrew Jackson Business College in Nashville in 1956. She loved all children and worked at Maryville First Baptist Nursery for more than 20 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Vena Nolen Worth. Survived by the love of her life, husband of 53 years, Hugh M. Large; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lisa Large; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Sherman Proctor; granddaughters, Courtnie and husband David Sharp, Jessica Bye; great-granddaughters, Tandence, Nevaeh, and Summer; brother and sister-in-law, John and Joy Worth; sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Ed Hines; several nieces and nephews. J.W. “Bill” Wallace, age 93 of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at his home. He was a member of Clover Hill Presbyterian Church and retired from J.W. “Bill” Wallace Tractor and Farm Implement. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Houston Wallace; and sister, Evelyn Humphrey. Bill and his wife Velma donated the land for Maryville Christian School and were supporters for many years. Lester O. Allmon
Lester O. Allmon, age 80, of Maryville, went home to be with his Lord Monday, September 19, 2011, at his home. He attended Twin Oaks Baptist Church and had done evangelistic ministry for the past 50 years. He pastored Alleghany Baptist Church, Birchfield Baptist Church, and filled in at Four Mile Baptist Church, while they were seeking a new pastor. He loved to travel with his family to preach, play his guitar and sing. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korea Conflict, a member of Mt. View Masonic Lodge #519. He worked at several car dealerships as a mechanic and retired from Blount Farmers Co-Op. Preceded in death by his mother, Gussie Lee Chastain Allmon; father, Roy Allmon; brother, R.J. Allmon; sister, Louise Daugherty; brother-in-law, James Daugherty; granddaughter, April Nicole Allmon; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mandy and Anderson Tilley. George Edward Knell, age 58, passed away September 20, 2011, at his home in Maryville after a long-fought battle with cancer. He had retired from ALCOA, Inc. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandy Hutson. Eddie Lee Lenoir
Eddie Lee Lenoir, age 95, went to her eternal home on Saturday, September 17, 2011. She was born
February 23, 1916, in Flovilla, Ga., to the late Leroy and Willie Mae Redding. The family moved to Alcoa in 1923. She graduated from Hall School and married Thomas Lenoir in 1934, to which the union produced two daughters, Chelita Wright and Llana Hackney. Eddie was a life-long member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities, including president of the Women's Missionary Society, member of Missionary Circle #2, Senior Choir member and Food and Kitchen Committee member, to name a few. She was known for her generosity, acts of kindness, ready smile and laughter, sense of humor and singing her favorite song; Sweet Little Jesus Boy, which she sang at every opportunity. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Willie Mae Redding; her husband, Thomas Lenoir; daughter, Chelita Wright; sisters, Ruby Porter and Lola Watson; and brother, Leroy Redding. Her survivors include her daughter, Llana Hackney (N.J.); grandson, David Hackney (Md.); granddaughter, Janel (Neil) Hackney Bell (N.J.); great-grandson, Joshua Hackney (Md.); great-granddaughter, Christin Hackney (Md.); sister-in-law, Ilois Redding (Ga.); nieces, Margaret Cobbs (Calif.), Sylvia Porter (Tenn.), Jacqueline Bledsoe (Pa.), Delores Walker (Ala.), Judy Watson Knight (Tenn.) and Olivia Redding (Ga.); as well as nephews, Herbert Porter (Tenn.), Leslie Porter (Tenn.) and James Watson (Mich.); and many grand-nieces and nephews. She leaves to cherish her memory many friends, of whom Kim Henry and Sharaan Nunn were special for her, and Ernest McQueen, who was always willing to give help whenever he was called. Also special to her were Judy Watson Knight, Leslie Porter and Carlin Knight, who were loving caretakers for the past several years. She will be sorely missed, but as much as we loved her, we know that the Heavenly Father loved her more and she is resting in His care. Charles I. Reagan (“Fireball”), age 83, of Alcoa, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011, after a brief illness. Charles was a born
again Christian. He was a graduate of Sevier County High School and attended The University of Tennessee. Charlie (Chick) was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving as an electrician in the 9th Field Maintenance Squadron with the Strategic Air Command in the Air Refueling wing at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Mountain Home, Idaho. “Fireball, ” as his co-workers at the plant called him, retired from Tennessee Operations of Alcoa after working as an electrician for 39 years and was a member of the 25 Year Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Reagan and Pearl (Delozier) Reagan; sister, Louise Reagan Atchley and her husband Blaine Atchley; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Hester A. (Sweet) Greene and Roy H. Greene, Sr; brothers-in-law, Elmer A. Greene, MD, of Kingsport, Tenn.; Gerald Mc. Greene of Kingsport; and nephew James (Jim) B. Atchley, Jr. of Sevierville, Tenn.
