William Thomas Clifford Copeland

William Thomas Clifford Copeland, 88, of Sparta, passed way Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Copeland was born icon August 23, 1912, in White County, to Wilburn Copeland and Ova Bradley Copeland.

He was a member of Copeland Chapel Church and was a farmer.

Copeland was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Julia Mills; and three brothers, Edward D. Copeland, David Copeland, and Charlie Copeland.

Survivors include two brothers, Freddie Copeland and Alex Melvin Copeland and four sisters, Mattie Henry Lafever and Reba Haynes both of Sparta, Geneva Mason of Ohio, and Linda Keir of Maryland.

Services were held Monday, July 30, 2001, at 3 p.m. at Copeland Chapel Church with burial in Copeland Chapel Church Cemetery. Bro. Gerald England, Bro. Marvin Horton, Bro. Robert Wright, and Bro. Wayne Copeland officiated.

Thurman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James Robert (Jim) Snodgrass

James Robert (Jim) Snodgrass, 82, of Dandridge, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2001, at St. Mary’s Residence Hospice.

Snodgrass was a member of Dandridge First United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Dandridge Lions Club and the Elks Club and was a a life-long banker serving as President of Bank of Morristown.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Chris.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Charlene Snodgrass; three sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Missy Snodgrass of Nashville and George and Susan Snodgrass and Charles and Ann Snodgrass all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Katherine, Elizabeth, and David Snodgrass; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Pat Snodgrass of Sparta and William and Faye Snodgrass of Nashville; and one nephew, Bill Snodgrass, Jr.

Graveside services were held Thursday, August 9, 2001, at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery icon in Knoxville. Rev. Dan Moore officiated.

Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge was in charge of arrangements.

James Patton Still

James Patton Still, 87, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2001.

Still was born icon in Sweetwater to J. Frank and Mattie Patton Still.

He was a member of Central Church of Christ, the American Legion, the Half-Century Club, and the National Association of Hairdressers. Still was active in community volunteer work. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jane Sutton Still; one daughter and son-in-law, Ellen Margaret Still-Kell and Patrick Anthony Kell of Columbia, South Carolina and several cousins.

Services will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Highland Cemetery. Minister David Schenhoff will officiate,

Elmer Eastwood Humphrey

Elmer Eastwood Humphrey, 91, of Stanford, Ky., formerly of Sparta, passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Stanford Nursing Home.

Humphrey was born icon October 17, 1910, in Sparta, to Amon F. and Lela Mary Johnson Humphrey.

He was a member of The Baptist Church in Walling. Humphrey served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was retired from self-employment as a Tennessee Walking Horse trainer and farmer.

Humphrey was preceded in death by one son, Gaines Moore Humphrey.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Edmonds Humphrey; three children, Hulon Humphrey and Gleason Humphrey both of Winchester, Ky. and Dale E. Humphrey of Stanford, Ky.; one brother, Elbert Humphrey of Sparta; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Services were held Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery icon in Stanford, Ky. Rev. Kenny Speakes and Rev. Max Hester officiated.

Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, Ky. was in charge of arrangements.

George Finley Wilmoth

George Finley Wilmoth, 80, of Walling, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at White County Community Hospital.

Wilmoth was born icon Nov. 20, 1921, in Overton County, to William Finley and Nancy Lou Judd Wilmoth.

He was a farmer.

Wilmoth was preceded in death by his parents and three sons, Leonard Wilmoth Sr., William Thomas Wilmoth and Earl Reed Wilmoth.

Survivors include his wife, Cora Bell Luna Wilmoth of Walling; one son, Charles Wilmoth of Sparta; two daughters, Brenda Sue Matheney and Linda Faye Bradley both of Sparta; one brother, Andrew Jackson Wilmoth of Dickinson, Texas; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.

Services were held Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Plainview Cemetery. Fate Wilson and James Rittenberry officiated.

Thomas Merritt Parker Jr.

Thomas Merritt Parker Jr., 38, of Sparta, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001.

Parker was born icon April 25, 1963, in Sparta, to Thomas Merritt Parker Sr. and Georgina Kimsey Parker.

He was a laborer.

Survivors include one son, Thomas M. Parker III of Sparta; one brother, Richard T. Howard of Newport Beach, Calif. and one sister, Katherine S. Howard of Sparta.

Services were held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Highland Cemetery. Rev. Susan Gardner officiated.

Margaret Sue Rigsby

Margaret Sue Rigsby, 58, of Spencer, passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Erlanger Hospital.

Rigsby was born icon Jan. 29, 1943, in Van Buren County, to Walter Sullivan and Novella Green Sullivan.

She attended the Methodist Church and was retired from Textron Fastening System.

Rigsby was preceded in death by her husband, E.O. Rigsby Jr.; one son, Chris Rigsby; one brother, Alton Sullivan; and one sister, Dora Bell.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Phillip and Darlene Rigsby of McMinnville and Wendell Brent Rigsby of Kansas; two brothers, Dan Sullivan and Johnny Sullivan both of Spencer; four sisters, Betty Forsythe, Luedean Martin, Shirley Clendenon and Vella Sellers all of Spencer; two grandsons, Keith Rigsby and Zachery Rigsby both of McMinnville; two granddaughters, LaShonda Rigsby and Marisa Rigsby both of McMinnville; and two step grandsons, Allan Tubb of Knoxville and Jacob Tubb of McMinnville.

Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Love-Cantrell & Cope Spencer Chapel with burial in the family cemetery. Wayne Sullivan will officiate.
