Ovella Jones Farley

Ovella Jones Farley, 87, of Sparta, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2000, at NHC of Sparta.

Farley was born icon April 29, 1913, in White County, to John and Sarah Goodson Jones.

She was a homemaker.

Farley was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Farley and one daughter, Polly Stinnett.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Dot Farley of Silver Point; one son-in-law, Bob Stinnett of Sparta; two sisters, Lucy Usrey and Beulah Betterton both of Sparta; one brother, Ammon Jones of Murfreesboro; five grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday, August 17, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Old New Hope Cemetery. Fate Wilson will officiate.

Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Agnes Pearl Bohannon Hodge

Agnes Pearl Bohannon Hodge, 72, passed away August 15, 2000 at National Health Corporation of Sparta.

Hodge was born icon January 18, 1928, in White County, to Claude and Annie Rice Bohannon.

She was a housewife.

Hodge is survived by her husband, William Filmore (Bill) Hodge of Sparta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anna and Steve Jones and Doris and Ronnie Prater, all of Sparta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Gale Hodge of Chattanooga and Carl and Dorothy Hodge of Sparta; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2000 at Hunter Funeral Home with burial in the Shockley Cemetery icon in Spencer. David Lee England will officiate. Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Herman W. Hollingsworth

Herman W. Hollingsworth, 70, of Bartow, Florida, passed away Monday, October 9, 2000.

Hollingsworth was born icon July 3, 1930, in Wray, Colorado.

He attended the First Presbyterian Church.

Hollingsworth was a music teacher in the school system in Florida for 35 years. He was a former member of the United States Air Force Band.

Survivors include his wife, June A. Hollingsworth of Bartow, Florida; one son, Bryan E. Hollingswoth of Tampa, Florida; one daughter, Leisel M. Hollingsworth of Bartow, Florida; mother, Mary Hollingsworth of Bartow, Florida; and one granddaughter.

Services were held Thursday, October 12, 2000, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Bartow, Florida.

Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow, Florida, was in charge of arrangements.

Clara Sherrard

Clara Sherrard, 88, passed away Friday, October 13, 2000, at NHC Healthcare in Smithville.

Sherrard attended the Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim S. Robinson and Gracey West Robinson.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ana and Richard Gravely of Sparta; Tony Sherrard (adopted son) of Sparta; four grandchildren; one sister, Sally Goodwin of Murfreesboro; and two brothers, Bill Robinson and Jim Robinson both of Sparta.

Services were held Sunday, October 15, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Johnson's Chapel Baptist Church with burial in Johnson's Chapel Cemetery. Bro. David Wilson and Bro. Arvil Lee officiated.

Love-Cantrell Funeral Home of Smithville was in charge of arrangements.

Charles Franklin Luna

Charles Franklin Luna, 71, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2000, at River Park Hospital.

Luna was born icon September 25, 1929, in White County to Rastus Burton Luna and Bessie Pollard.

He was a retired assemblyman from Ford Motor Company.

Survivors include four sons, Charles Winfred Luna of Washington, Clyde Burton Luna of Florida, and Paul Allen Luna and Terry Wayne Luna both of McMinnville; two daughters, Brenda Starr of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Robie Elina Johnson of McMinnville; 25 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Royce Luna of Sparta; two sisters, Rocelle Luna of Alabama and Myrtle Luna of Sparta; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Friday, October 13, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Taylor's Providence Cemetery. David England officiated.

High Funeral Home in McMinnville was in charge of arrangements.

Inez Bumbalough Dunham

Inez Bumbalough Dunham, 72, of Cookeville, formerly of Sparta, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2000, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Dunham was born icon January 9, 1928, in White County, to Beecher and Dailey Ann Kinnard Bumbalough.

She was a member of Copeland Chapel Church and was a homemaker.

Dunham was preceded in death by her husband, James Beecher Dunham; one daughter, Linda Swindell; two grandsons, Scott Swindell and Ryan Dunham; three sisters, Beulah Williams, Ruth Foster, and Annie Jewell Bumbalough; and six brothers, Herman, Sam, Riley, C. J., Thomas, and Herbert Bumbalough..

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Jerry Cantrell of Cookeville, Melissa and Junior Hill of Cookeville, and Carolyn and Joe McDonald of Hoover, Alabama; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Debbie Dunham of McMinnville; eight grandchildren, Ricky Swindell, Jason Cantrell, Jill Cantrell Moore, Chase McDonald, Layne McDonald, Scott Dunham, Matthew Hill, and Mitchell Hill; one great grandchild, Shannon Swindell; two sisters, Lois Bohannon of Maryville and Evelyn Ashton of Anderson, Indiana.

Services were held Saturday, October 14, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home with burial in Copeland Chapel Cemetery icon in White County.

Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home in Cookeville was in charge of arrangements.

Bessie Mae Davis Cole

Bessie Mae Davis Cole, 94, of Sparta, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2000, at White County Community Hospital.

Cole was born icon February 15, 1906, in Overton County, to Robert and Avo L. Smith Davis.

She was a homemaker.

Cole was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Clinton Cole and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Charles C. and Diane Vincent Cole of Quebeck; one grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Charles V. and Kimberly Cole of Quebeck; one sister, Lois Tennant of Sparta; and three grandsons, James, Joseph, and Thuan Jones Cole, all of Quebeck.

Services were held Friday, October 20, 2000, at 3 p.m. at The Old Country Church with burial in the Anderson Cemetery. Nathan Hawkins officiated.

Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
