Lessie Sartin
Lessie Jo Sartin, 56, resident of Memphis and probation officer for the State of Tennessee before her illness, died August 20, 2005, at the St. Frances Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for one day.
Services were conducted August 27 at the Peebles Funeral Chapel in Somerville with a cousin, Rev. Daniel Wilborn, officiating. Special remarks were given by a friend, Willie H. Tate, Jr. Interment
was in the Fayette County Memorial Park cemetery on Highway 64. Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Miss. Sartin was born January 18, 1949, in the Love Community near Hernando, Miss., the daughter of the late James A. Sartin, Sr. and the late Alice Jones Sartin. She was a graduate of the Newburgh Free Academy in Newburgh, New York and attended the Howard University in Washington, D.C. where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Pathology.
Miss. Sartin was a former resident of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands where she taught young people with speech disorders and also became a licensed real estate agent at St. Thomas. She then returned to her native southland 20 years ago and was a resident of Memphis where she served as a probation officer for the State of Tennessee for 18 years before her illness.
Miss. Sartin will be remembered as a spiritual person and for her outstanding collection of unique and beautiful dolls. Miss. Sartin's laughter, ever-present smile and sense of humor was an inspiration to her many friends and family members.
Miss. Sartin is survived by her brother , James A. Sartin, Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Oakland and nine nieces and nephews.
Casketbearers were Malcolm Hawes, Traie Sartin, Jeremy Sartin, Justin J. Sellers, Darian Gill and Brandon Sartin.
