SPENCER -- Casto Smith, 65, of Route 1, Spencer, Tenn., died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, in a Chattanooga hospital.
He was a member of the Church of God.
He was preceded in death by a son, Hershel Smith.
Survived by his wife, Sarah Smith; two daughters, Wanda Blaylock of Dunlap, Doris Evans of Spencer; son, Oliver Smith of Dayton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six sisters, Wilma Bolin and Myrtle Campbell of Pikeville, Delta Walker of Spencer, Radith Norris of Crossville, Tenn., Mary Melton of Jamestown, Tenn., and Hazel Smith of Henagar, Ala.; and brother, Tommy Smith of Athens, Tenn.
Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. CDT in the chapel with Rev. Roger Brown and Rev. Leonard Sullivan officiating.
Burial in Blackburn Cemetery.

Viola Tollison
PIKEVILLE -- Viola Tollison, 78, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, in Erlanger Bledsoe Hospital.
She was a member of Brockdell Church of God.
Preceded in death by husband, William Tollison; and grandson, Michael Beasley.
Survived by three daughters, Janice Roberts of Spencer, Tenn., Jo Nelda Beasley and Brenda Watson of Pikeville; two sons, Richard Tollison of Pikeville and Ronald Tollison of Athens, Ala.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wilma Fults of McMinnville, Tenn., Beatrice Knott of Pikeville; brother, Clyde Holland, Pikeville; and one aunt, Stella Smith, Pikeville.
Services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. CDT in the chapel with Rev. Clyde Cunningham and Rev. Danny Lee officiating.
Burial in Cagle Cemetery.

STEVENSON -- Johnny Richard Ragland, 57, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001.
Survivors: three sons, Michael Ragland, Tim Ragland and Anthony Ragland, all of Detroit; three sisters, Sandra Smith, Stevenson, Alma Carter, Stevenson, Rosie Powers, Los Angeles; two brothers, William Ragland, Jasper, Tenn.; Joseph Ragland, Stevenson.
Memorial services will be today 1 p.m. CDT from St. Paul United Methodist Church, Stevenson, with minister Rev. Everett L. Ballard.

Betty Blackmon of Chattanooga died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at her residence.

Jewell Bryant
Jewell Raby Bryant, 75, lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at her home.
She was a member of Joyful Sound Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bryant.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Bryant Ledford, Chattanooga; grandchildren, Melissa Merciers, Signal Mountain and Robert Ledford, Chattanooga; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Bishop, Georgetown and Betty Shelby, Hixson; brother, Jack Raby, Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 15 at Lane-Coulter Chapel with Rev. James Baker officiating.
Interment: Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Lambert Y. "Bert" Coleman of Chattanooga died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 13, 2001, at his residence.
He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and retired from Provident Life and Accident Insurance Co.
He was an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and was a veteran of WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah E. "Libby" Coleman; four sons, Thomas Kelly Coleman of Charlotte, N.C., Joseph Lambert and wife, Jeana Coleman of Atlanta, James Patrick Coleman of Chattanooga, Timothy Michael and wife, Leigh Ann Coleman of Atlanta; two grandchildren, Joe Coleman Jr. and Shannon Coleman of Atlanta; four brothers, Frank Coleman, Ed Coleman and Bill Coleman, all of Frankfort, Ky., Jim Coleman of Winchester, Ky.; one sister, Susanne Moore of Frankfort; numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Friar Mike Nolan and Friar Augustine Davis officiating.
Interment will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
