MARY JANE BEST, 83, of Memphis, died Wednesday at her home after a stroke. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. today at St. Francis of Assisi Church, where she was a communicant, with burial in Calvary. Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Parkway Chapel has charge. She was a former member of St. Paul Altar Society and the Legion of Mary. She leaves two daughters, Mary B. Hargrave and Joan F. Best, both of Memphis; a son, Charles L. Best of Salt Lake City, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to St. Benedict at Auburndale in Cordova, St. Cecilia Motherhouse in Nashville or the charity of the donor's choice.

TAMEKA LaSHAE BOYLAND, 21, of 998 N. Watkins, Apt. 3, died Wednesday in Memphis of a gunshot wound. N. J. Ford & Sons Funeral Home has charge. She was a member of Highland Heights Church of Christ. She leaves a daughter, LaQuita Nadine Boyland; a son, NaDavion Lee Boyland, and her mother, Glenda Roy, all of Memphis; her father, Leonard Boyland of Texas; a sister, Fareba Bobo, and two brothers, Glen Roy and Demetrius Roy, all of Memphis, and her grandmothers, Helen Murray of Chicago and Geraldine Boyland of Memphis.

OTIS CHILDERS, 92, of Memphis, died of heart failure Wednesday at Methodist Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Forest Hill Funeral Home South with burial in Forest Hill cemetery South. He was a member of Morris Memorial Primitive Baptist Church. Mr. Childers, the husband of Louise Childers, also leaves two daughters, Jeannie Childers of Memphis and Connie Whitmire of North Carolina; two sisters, Zettie Meadows and Edna Jones, both of Ripley, Miss., four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

LOUIS CLAY, 79, of Hughes, Ark., farmer, died of heart failure Sunday at his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Anthony Funeral Home in West Memphis with burial in Paradise Gardens cemetery in Edmondson, Ark. He leaves a stepdaughter, Lela Dotson, and a stepson, Nathaniel Jones, both of Memphis; three sisters, Emma Johnson, Elzena Burton and Minister J. Green, all of Omaha, Neb., 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

VIRGIL LEE CLAYTON, 72, of Memphis, brick mason, died of heart failure Feb. 12 in Memphis. Mr. Clayton, the husband of Ellen Clayton, also leaves a daughter, Kim Cunningham of Memphis; three sons, Lavon Clayton of West Memphis, and Calvin Clayton and Virgil Clayton Jr., both of Memphis; and five sisters, Ida Mae Clayton, Gerline Anderson, Vera Ellis, Cora C. ELIZABETH EDWARDS, 88, of Memphis, died of heart failure Thursday at Baptist Memorial Hospital. N. J. Ford & Sons Funeral Home has charge. She was a member of the mother board at Lake Cormorant Baptist Church. Mrs. Edwards, the widow of Robert Edwards, leaves a son, John Davis, and a cousin who cared for her, Maephine Reese, both of Memphis, 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

JAMES O. ELLIS, 88, of Memphis, retired foreman for Forest Hill Dairy, died of heart failure Wednesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington, Ky. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Memory Hill Gardens. He was a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church and a World War II air forces veteran. Mr. Ellis, the widower of Irene I. Ellis, leaves three daughters, Beverly Johnson of Nicholasville, Ky., Chynena Coates of Portland, Ore., and Carolyn Kunsch of Mission Viejo, Calif.; a son, James O. Ellis Jr. of St. Joseph, Mo., nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ervin, the wife of Eugene Ervin, also leaves a daughter, Kim Freeland, and a son, Richard P. Ervin, both of Covington, and three grandchildren.
