VERNIS MAE RIKARD, 65, of Memphis, retired employee of Baptist Memorial Hospital, died there Monday of an aneurysm. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Forest Hill Funeral Home South with burial in Forest Hill cemetery South. She leaves two daughters, Brenda J. Looney of Southaven and Tina Parrish of Oklahoma City; three sons, William W. Rikard and David R. Rikard, both of Hernando, Miss., and Robert W. Rikard of Oklahoma City; her mother, Juanita H. Ransom, and a sister, Joyce J. McKell, both of Horn Lake, Miss., 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

LENA MAE KELLY SCOTT, 72, of 558 Hernando, Apt. 1, homemaker, died of cardiac arrest Sunday at St. Joseph Hospital. Services will be at noon Friday at St. Thomas Baptist Church at 377 E. IDA MAE SIMMONS, 83, of 3840 Cazassa, retired laundry worker for City of Memphis Hospital after more than 60 years, died of pneumonia Monday at her home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Moriah East Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member for more than 60 years, with burial in Mt. Carmel cemetery. Southern Funeral Home has charge. Mrs. Simmons, the widow of Sylvester Simmons, leaves two nieces and two nephews, all of whom cared for her, Melba Lambert, Charlesetta Sims, Kenneth Hart and Nesbit Hart Jr., all of Memphis.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Golden Gate Full Gospel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Youth and Young Adult Choir, with burial in New Park cemetery. She leaves two sons, Queshean Strong and Nikkia Strong; her parents, Earl and Erma Strong; a sister, Danness Blount; a brother, Earl Strong Jr., and an aunt who raised her, Zenie Terrell, all of Memphis.

INEZ LAVONNE THOMPSON, 82, of Memphis, retired secretary-treasurer for Thompson Engineers Inc., died of cancer Wednesday at Saint Francis Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park. Mrs. Thompson, the widow of William B. Thompson after 59 years, leaves two sons, William B. Thompson Jr. of Germantown and Ronald L. Thompson of Memphis, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

CHARLES EDWARD WARD, 70, of Memphis, retired parts manager with Autorama, died of heart failure Tuesday in Memphis. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Nowell Memorial Funeral Home in Tunica, Miss., with burial in Oakwood cemetery there. He had served in the Navy on the USS Maryland during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and was an Eagle Scout. Mr. Ward, the husband of Carole C. Ward, also leaves three daughters, Anna Cheryl Ward of Houston, Texas, Cynthia J. Horton of Conroe, Texas, and Lisa Carole Holloway of Memphis; two sons, Charles E. Ward Jr. of Memphis and Charles R. Ward of Tunica, and two grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.
