JACK HURD, 77, of 383 Madison, Apt. 402, retired truck driver, died of cancer Friday at Cordova Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. Services will be at noon Wednesday at Prospect CME Church with burial in the church cemetery. Victory Funeral Home has charge. Mr. Hurd, the husband of Dosie Hurd, also leaves a sister, Francis Danner of Memphis; a son, Jack Hurd Jr. of Dallas; a brother, Robert Hurd of Memphis; a friend who cared for him, Mary Riley, and two grandchildren.

MINOLA JACKSON, 63, of 4477 Sun Valley Drive, died of cancer Friday at Oakville Nursing Home. M. J. Edwards & Sons Funeral Home has charge. She was a member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Jackson, the widow of Willie B. Jackson, leaves a son, Hubbie Cotton of Memphis; four stepsons, Willie B. Jackson Jr., Andrew Jackson and Glen Allen, all of Chicago, and Robert Brown of Memphis; a niece who cared for her, Annie Blake of Memphis, and several grandchildren.

GLADYS P. JOHNSON, 93, of Gainesville, Ga., formerly of Memphis, homemaker, died of respiratory failure Saturday at her daughter's home in Gainesville. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Hill Funeral Home Midtown with burial in Forest Hill cemetery Midtown. She was a former member of Coro Lake Church of Christ. Mrs. Johnson, the widow of Richard A. Johnson, leaves two daughters, Ruby Jean Lofton of Gainesville and Betty Lou Ladd of Memphis; two sons, Richard A. Johnson Jr. of Searcy, Ark., and William K. Johnson of Nashville, 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

HOSEA B. LYONS, 83, of Memphis, retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co., died of pneumonia Sunday at Memphis Veterans Medical Center. M. J. Edwards & Sons Funeral Home has charge. He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and was an Army veteran. Mr. Lyons, the husband of Vonzetta Lyons, also leaves a daughter, Amelia Willis; and two sons, Johnnie Lyons and Floyd Lyons, both of Memphis, four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

THOMAS LIVINGSTON MANN, 74, of Memphis, formerly of Brownsville, Tenn., retired farmer, died of heart failure Sunday at his home. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oakwood cemetery in Brownsville. Brownsville Funeral Home has charge. He attended First United Methodist Church of Brownsville. He was a World War II Army veteran. He leaves a sister, Annie Hooper, and a brother, Pat H. Mann, both of Brownsville.

ISIAH MERRIWEATHER, 42, of 156 Majuba, self-employed carpenter, died of cancer Friday at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shady Grove Baptist Church with burial in West Tennessee Veterans cemetery. Snow Funeral Home has charge. Mr. Merriweather leaves a daughter, Latanya Tatum of Memphis; a son, Isiah Tyrone Merriweather of Milwaukee; his mother, Luvenia B. Merriweather of Memphis; three sisters, Luvenia Thompson of Memphis, and Bettye Blackburn and Sarah Fox, both of Milwaukee; two brothers, Alexe Britt of Chicago and Amos Bryant Merriweather of Memphis, and a grandson.

JAMES WILLIAM MODLIN, 67, of Memphis, died of heart failure Monday at Saint Francis Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Parkway Chapel with burial in Memory Hill Gardens. He was a Korean War veteran. Mr. Modlin, the husband of Tae Hi Modlin, also leaves two sisters, Dora Modlin Cleary of Memphis and Diann Cox of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two sons, Jimmy Modlin of Horn Lake, Miss., and Jerry Modlin of Memphis; a sister, Annie Lee Henson of Ripley, Tenn.; a brother, Billy Modlin of Dallas, and seven grandchildren.

SHELLIE ANNA PHIFER, 80, of Memphis, retired domestic worker, died of heart failure Monday at Saint Francis Hospital. Harrison's Orange Mound Funeral Home has charge. She was a member of New Philadelphia Baptist Church for 50 years. Mrs. Phifer, the widow of James Claude Phifer, leaves a son, William Phifer; a sister, Henrietta Ayers of San Diego; a daughter-in-law who cared for her and with whom she lived, Doris M. Phifer of Memphis, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

CELESTE HIGHT RHODES, 97, of Memphis, homemaker, died of heart failure Sunday at St. Peter Villa Nursing Home. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, where she was a communicant, with burial in Memorial Park. Memorial Park Funeral Home has charge. Mrs. Rhodes, the widow of Sam H. Rhodes, leaves two daughters, Natalie Rhodes Johnson and Celeste Rhodes Dawkins, and a son, Sam H. Rhodes Jr., all of Memphis, 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that any memorials be sent to a charity of the donor's choice.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel with burial in Helen Crigger cemetery in Munford. Mrs. Roland, the widow of G. W. Roland, leaves a daughter, Pat Roland Wilson and a son, Clarence Roland, both of Millington, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
