Jimmy H. Spradling
Jimmy H. Spradling, age 48, of Morristown, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2001, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. He was a faithful member of Roe Junction Missionary Baptist Church. He was the owner of C & S Enterprises. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Thelma Whitaker Spradling. He is survived by his wife, Connie Wilson Spradling; daughter, Hannah; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Troy Helton of Tazewell; brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Louie and Nellie Spradling; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles and Imogene Wilson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rev. Lee and Lisa Callahan, all of Morristown; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, November 30 at 2 p.m. at Roe Junction Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Elmer Lampkin and Rev. Tom Wells conducting the service. Interment
will be in Roe Junction Missionary Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, November 29 at Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown.
Samuel William Finchum
Samuel William Finchum, age 90, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2002, at the Baptist Convalescent Center of Cocke County. He was retired from Stokely Van Camp, after 46 years of service. He was a charter member of the English Mountain Christian Church, where he served as Elder and Deacon. He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Parker Finchum. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Oake Moore of Strawberry Plains, and Anna and Jim Bellamy of Powell; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Darlene Finchum of Newport; grandchildren, Pamela Ruth Moore Richardson of Murfreesboro, Johnny Moore of Knoxville, Laura Moore Farmer of Dandridge; sister, Louise Pack and brother, Fred Finchum, both of Knoxville; five great-grandchildren; special friends, Pat and Ed Thompson. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 19, at the English Mountain Christian Church with Pastor Rick Carr conducting the service. Interment
was held in Resthaven Memorial Garden. Manes Funeral Home, Newport, was in charge of arrangements.
Martha Lena Hodges
Martha Lena Rosenbalm Hodges, age 84, of Tazewell, passed away Monday, January 14, 2002, at Claiborne County Hospital. She was a member of Springdale Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Winfield Scott and Nancy Louvernia “Nan” Jackson Rosenbalm; husband, Ulus Ray Hodges; sisters, Ruby Rosenbalm, Eva Rosenbalm, Bessie Hayes; twin, Mary Levi Rosenbalm; brother, James E. Rosenbalm. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Charlene Hodges of Powell; grandchildren, Jason and Joy Hodges of Morristown, Lelia and R.J. Clawson of Jefferson City; great-grandson, Jason Alexander Hodges; special sister-in-law, Margaret Rosenbalm; special nieces and nephews, Etta Jane and Roy Kyle Norris, Nancy and Al Morrison, David, Sherry and Stefan Norris and Jeffrey Norris; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 17, at Coffey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Hatfield conducting the service. Interment

Betty S. Kesterson
Betty S. Kesterson, age 80, of White Pine, formerly of Fountain City, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2002, at Jefferson County Nursing Home. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, American Quarter Horse Association, Jefferson County Historical Society, A.P.T.A., a Patron of Glenmore Mansion, Jefferson City, President and CEO of Cherokee Aviation after her husbands death. She was an accomplished Horse Woman, Gardener, Pilot and Genealogist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom O. Kesterson. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Earl Campbell of White Pine; grandson, Tee Campbell of White Pine; step-son, T.H. D. Kesterson of Knoxville; step-grandson, Dr. Gregg Kesterson of Knoxville; sister, Mrs. Dorothy S. Wright of Florida; special cousins, Gilbert, Mitchell, and Stacey Grimm of Powell. Interment

Ida E. Lauderdale
Ida E. Lauderdale, age 76, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2002, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Pleasant Grove (Haworth) Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, William (Bud) Lauderdale. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Trudy Ann and John Craig, Sandra and Allen Cate, all of New Market; grandchildren, John Craig, Jr., Debbie Herron, Tina Cate and Pattie Barding; four great-grandchildren; one sister. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 20, at Fielden Chapel with Rev. Johnny Beeler conducting the service. Interment

Lee Hearsel “Hut” Martin
Lee Hearsel “Hut” Martin, age 87, of Sam Martin Road, Dandridge, passed away Saturday evening, January 19, 2002, following a brief illness. He was a member of Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church were he had served as church school superintendent for over 35 years. Mr. Martin was a retired farmer, former employee of the Tennessee State Highway Department and Tennessee Handbags. He was a well respected resident of the Chestnut Grove Community and was an avid fan and loved to attend and watch the Jefferson County High School basketball games. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Brown Martin. Survivors include his daughter, Wanda Martin, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 22, 2 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Brewer and Rev. A.C. Cobble officiating. Interment

Lillian “Lillie” Metcalf
Lillian “Lillie” Metcalf, age 82 of Newport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 18, 2002, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith. Preceded in death by husbands, Nelson Price and Fred Metcalf; parents, Dedrick and Sarah Canuppe Grooms; brothers, Will Grooms, John Grooms; sisters, Zonia Sutton and Bertha Barnes. Survivors include: newphew, James Grooms and wife, Helen, of Morristown; niece, Betty Ann Barnes and husband, James, of Dandridge; and sister-in-law, Annie Grooms, of Dandridge. Also missed by several other nieces, nephews; boyfriend, Ed Strange; and special friends, Juanita Brewer, Willa Mae Brown and Cheryl Wyatt. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at Brown Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jeff Harville officiating. Interment

Luis Naranjo
Luis Naranjo, age 77 of Dandridge, formerly of Key West, Florida, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 18, 2002. He was a retired commercial fisherman and had moved to Tennessee to be closer to his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Naranjo. Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Clara and Don Reneau; son, Luis Naranjo, Jr., all of Dandridge; grandchildren: Jerry Whitener of New Market; Mark, Kevin and Tyra Naranjo of Burnwell, Kentucky; Leslie Smelcer of Dandridge; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services were held Monday, January 21, at Hills Union cemetery with Rev. AndrÈ Rousseau officiating. Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Nelle (Evans) Storey
Mrs. Nelle (Evans) Storey, age 90, of Talbott, formerly of Union County, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2002, at Jefferson City Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Willie Evans and George Storey and son, T.J. Evans. She is survived by her daughters, Ruby Shumate, Helen Evans, and Della Cleo Eckel, all of Talbott, Anna Dean of Seaford, Delaware, Mildred Watson of Talbott, and Joyce Johnson of Vineland, New Jersey; son, Charlie Evans of Athens, Tennessee; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 17 at Cooke Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Robbie West conducting the service. Interment
was held Friday, January 18, in Yadon cemetery in Maynardville. Cooke Mortuary, Maynardville, was in charge of arrangements.
Hannah June Tate
Hannah June Tate, was born Thursday, January 17, 2002, and passed away Thursday, January 17, 2002. She was the beautiful infant daughter of Randy and Lillian Tate, and sister to Garreth and Tanner, of Rutledge. She is the granddaughter of the late Bill and June Tate, the late Junior Kinsler, and Clarence and Judy Butler of Talbott; great-grandparents are Junior Shoulders of Sneedville, and Clarence and Helen Butler of Talbott, and the late Bill and Ada Tate. The family held a private burial service with the Rev. Jack Hipshire, where the baby was laid to rest.
