David Davis
David Davis, age 79, of Dandridge, formerly of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville. He was a retired employee of the Jefferson County School System. Mr. Davis was a Veteran of World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars, having served as a paratrooper, retiring with 22 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Ollie Davis and brother, Tom Davis. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Satterfield Davis of Dandridge; daughter, June Willis of Auburn, Alabama; sisters, Mae Jones of Nashville, Dorothy Davidson of Nashville, Louise Golden of Clinton, Vicki Brisco of New Jersey; brothers, James W. Davis of Seymour, Joe Davis of South Carolina, Bob Davis of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Amanda Morgan, Meredith Willis, John Willis, all of Auburn, Alabama; great-granddaughter, Olivia Morgan. Funeral services were held Friday, July 20 at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge with Rev. Ronald Wine conducting the service. Interment
was held in French Broad Church of the Brethren cemetery.
Herbert Hoover Hodge
Herbert Hoover Hodge, age 72, passed away Friday, July 20, 2001. He was a charter member of and served the Lord faithfully at Central Baptist Church of Loudon. He served his country for 9 years in the US Navy and retired from Union Carbide/Viskase after 34 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar G. and Nettie Miller Hodge; brother, Ed Hodge, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Katheryn Gary Beeler Hodge; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas D. and Susan Jones Beeler of Bronx, New York; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and W. Steve Henderson of Loudon; granddaugters, Rebecca Beeler Gebhart and husband, Andy of Atlanta, Georgia, Katheryn Beeler of Auburn, Alabama; grandsons, McKennley Beeler of Norcross, Georgia, Christopher, Nathaniel, and Jason Henderson of Loudon, Jonathan and wife, Nola Akard Henderson of New Market; sisters and brothers-in-law, Edith and Floyd Craig of Jefferson City, Edna and J.B. Crisp of Sweetwater, Evelyn Watts of Charleston, South Carolina, Themla and Herbert Watkins of Williamsburg, Virginia, Patricia and Don Wear of Lenoir City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis and Eloise Hodge of Loudon, Marion T. and Zelma Hodge of Chilhowie, Virginia, Calvin and Linda Hodge of Paso Robies, California, Hollis and Jan Hodge of Molena, Georgia, Marvin Hodge of Saluda, North Carolina and wife of deceased brother, Johnnie Hodge of Bradenton, Florida; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 22, at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Edward L. Click and Dr. Fred Cook conducting the service. Interment
was in Loudon County Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
Glenn Allen Jeffrey
Glenn Allen Jeffrey, age 67 of Talbott, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was a retired employee of the Norfolk-Western Railroad. He was most recently employed by the Jefferson County Sanitation Department. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He is preceded in death by his son, Jeff; parents, Algie and Lucy Stevens Jeffrey; and brother, Jim. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis N. Jeffrey, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Keldra Jeffrey, Donald and Jennifer Jeffrey, all of Talbott, Harold and Jackie Jeffrey of Johnstown, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Dolly Jeffrey of White Pine; grandchildren, Jessica, Buddy, Criss, Dwayne, Rob, John, Cyndale, Michelle and Preston; brothers, Algie Jr. of Hewitt, West Virginia, Harold and Freddie, both of Pecks Mill, West Virginia; sisters, Betty of Phoenix, Arizona and Helen of Fairfax, Virginia; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, July 20, at Farrar White Pine Chapel with David Bugg conducting the service. Interment
was held in White Pine cemetery.

Louie Eugene McLelland, age 88, of Dandridge, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was a resident of Life Care Center of Jefferson City. He was a member of Hephzibah Baptist Church of Hephzibah, Georgia. Mr. McLelland was a fifty year Mason of Richmond Lodge # 413, of Hephzibah. He was retired from Babcock-Wilcox. He is preceded in death by his wife, Iris Beckum McLelland. He is survived by three children, Helen Becky Case of Dandridge, Susan Hobbs of Jefferson City and Sam McLelland of Hinesville, Georgia; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and special son-in-law, Floyd Case of Dandridge; sister, Vivian McLelland of Hephzibah, Georgia; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, July 20, at Farrar Dandridge Chapel with Rev. Stephen Burkhart and Rev. Tracy Coley conducting the service. Graveside services were held in Grant's Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.

Tennie McEntee Pepper, age 77, of Talbott, formerly of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away Friday, July 20, 2001 at the Jefferson County Nursing Home. She attended the Talbott Baptist Church. She is survived by husband, Robert Pepper; daughters, Jennifer Bailey of Califon, New Jersey, Emily Mashburn of Charleston, South Carolina, Robin Schlacter of Nashville; 3 grandchildren; brother, Joe McEntee of Alabama. Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge was in charge of arrangements.

Johnny A. Simon, age 68, of New Market, passed away Saturday, July 21, at his home. He is preceded in death by John and Nona Simon; sister, Ruth Miller. He is survived by his wife, Joan Simon; daughter, Shelia R. Kincaid; granddaughter, Rodica and Rudy Reeves; great nephew of the home, Marquise Manendez; godchildren, Candice Lacy of Detroit, Michigan, Renata Jones of Dandridge, Conellia Norris, Kayla, Caleb, Cameron, Kiarra Phipps of Jefferson City. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 25, 8 p.m. at Young's Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Marcia Whyte conducting the service. Burial services will be held Thursday, July 26, 11 a.m., at Young's Memorial cemetery.

Oaty Shelton, age 84, of Knoxville, formerly of New Market, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2001 in Knoxville. He was a member of Nance's Grove Baptist Church. He was a disabled Veteran of WWII. He is survived by his wife, Mary Edith Shelton of Knoxville; sons, Wayne Shelton of Merritt Island, Florida; Thurman Shelton of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Charlene Vaghy of San Diego, California; granddaughters, Krista Sheppard of Knoxville, Toni and Robin Vaghy of San Diego, California; two great-grandchildren, Becca and Joseph Sheppard, all of Knoxville; brothers, Col. R. Dennis Warner, age 52, of Lehigh Acres, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at Hope Hospice House in Ft. Myers. He is preceded in death by mother, Norma Daggy Warner. He is survived by his wife, Cindy of the home; son, Matthew Warner; daughter, Christie Warner; father, Russell Warner, all of Ft. Myers; step-children, Libby Miller and granddaugher Ashley Brooke, Nick Wilson of Kentucky; host of aunts, uncles, and friends. Funeral services were held Friday, July 20 at Sanibel Causeway Park to participate in a farewell cruise in memory of Dennis.

Charles H. “Sambo” Arwood, age 63, of Russellville, passed away Monday, July 23, 2001 at Morristown-Hamblen Health Care System. He was retired from Recycling & Co. He is preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Lawless. He is survived by children, Todd Arwood and Kim Arwood of Louisville, Kentucky; father, Charlie Arwood of White Pine; sisters, Kate Mann, Betty Jo Rathbone and Lois Cutshall of Morristown; half-sister, Janice Venebal; and half-brother, Dale Arwood of White Pine. There will be a private memorial service. Westside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Belle Finchum Hatmaker
Mary Belle Finchum Hatmaker, age 76, of New Market, passed away Monday, July 23, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville following a brief illness. She was a member of Mill Springs Baptist Church and was an avid quilter and former member of the Rose Center Quilting Guild. She was a member of the “Unique Antiques” of New Market Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer L. Hatmaker. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Joe and Vera Hatmaker of New Market; grandson and wife, Jess T. and Jena Hatmaker of Gatlinburg; granddaughter, Bethany Hatmaker of Antioch, TN; brothers, Lawrence Finchum of Maryville and Floyd Finchum of Rutledge; several nieces, nephews, and many special friends. Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, July 25, 2001 in Jefferson Memorial Garden with Rev. J.W. Taylor conducting the service. Farrar Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Richard (Ricky) Jerome Miller
Richard (Ricky) Jerome Miller, age 36, of Louisville, Tenn., formerly of Crawfordville, Fla., passed away, Sunday, July 22, 2001, in Charleston, S.C., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A native Floridian, Ricky served in the United States Army as a Sergeant, later serving in the Gulf War. He currently was the Director of Sales at Royal Beauty Supply in Knoxville, He is preceded in death by his father, Cullen Jerome Miller;maternal grandfather, Andrew B. Spears and paternal grandparents, Dan and Lelia Miller. He is survived by his mother, Katie Scott of Crawfordville, Fla.; two children, Ashlee and Kory Miller of Jefferson City; sister, Rhonda Miller, and maternal grandmother, Lency Spears Shawley, both of Crawfordville, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Thursday, July 26, at Ivan Assembly of God Church in Crawfordville. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.

Thomas D. “Tom” Polland, age 48, of Jefferson City, passed away suddenly, Monday, July 23, 2001. He was the General Manager of RV Sales for Foretravel of Tennessee in Kodak. He is survived by his wife, Denise Poland; sons, Aaron Thomas Poland of Indianapolis, Indiana and Keith Allen Sisk; daughter, Lauren Renee Sisk, both of the home; parents, Claude and Phyllis Poland of Speedway, Indiana; sister, Susan Johnston of Brownsburg, Indiana. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 26, 8 p.m., at Conkle Funeral Home Chapel in Speedway, Indiana. Arrangements for a local memorial service will be announced at a later date by Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge.
