Mary Fugate, age 73, of Morristown, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2000 after an extended illness. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elzie and Carrie Williams; husband, Clayton Fugate; daughter, Bonnie Lou; grandson, Jimmie Sexton. She was is survived by daughter, Mrs. Gene (Sue) Sears of Bean Station, Rosetta Sexton of Guilford, Indiana, Mrs. Houston (Phyllis) Carroll of Morristown, Mrs. Greg (Anita) Bales of Talbott, Mrs. Jack (Mozell) Collins of Morristown; sons, James (Duke) and Randy, of the home, Darrell and wife, Donna Fugate of Whitesburg, Jerry Fugate of Morristown; sister, Edith Laubenstein of Hamilton, Ohio; brothers, Bill Williams, of Tucson, Arizona. Elzie Williams, Jr. and Shelby Williams, of Clay City, Kentucky; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, May 22, at Westside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Long and Rev. Randy Epps conducting the services. Interment icon was Tuesday, May 23, in Hamblen Memory Gardens. Westside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James Arthur Mills
James Arthur Mills, age 84, of Knoxville, formerly of Jefferson City passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 23, 2000 at the residence of his daughter. Mr. Mills was a long-time resident of Jefferson County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Annetta Newman Mills; brother, Robert Mills; sister, Muriel Cole. He is survived by his wife, Edith Large Mills of the home; son, Edward Joseph Mills; daughter, Joyce Carolyn Mills and son-in-law, Bobby Lynn Mills; grandchildren, Lynnette, Tara and Cayla Mills all of Knoxville; brothers, Ellis, Hal and Don Mills of Knoxville, Joe Mills of California, Glenn Mills of Talbott and Charles Mills of Johnson City; sister, Ida Price of Dandridge; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City with Rev. Troy James conducting the services. Family and friends will meet at 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 26 at Farrar Funeral Home and proceed to Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a 1 p.m. entombment service. Family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday prior to services at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City.

Carroll W. Sellars
Carroll W. Sellars, age 72, of Powell, passed away, May 22, 2000 at Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. He was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Bertha Sellars; brothers, Jim and Charlie Sellars; sister, Lucille Newman; daughter-in-law, Barbara K. Sellars. He is survived by his sons; Roger W. Sellars of Harriman and Jerry and wife, Kathy Sellars of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Lisa Green of Oliver Springs and Stacy Author of Lenior City, Bryan Sellars of Clinton, James Sellars and Josh Sellars of Knoxville; two great-grandchildren, Kinley Green of Oliver Springs and Haley Author of Lenior City; brothers, Neil Sellars and H.L. Sellars; sisters, Bonnie Hance, Hazel Chambers of Jefferson City and Jean Zimmerman of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Bob and Betty Underwood. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 24, at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City with Rev. Lee Wayne Grubb, Rev. Coy Warren and Rev. Dwayne Whittington conducting the services. The body will be taken to Mountain View Baptist Church at 12 noon Thursday, May 25, where it will lie in state for one hour prior to Interment icon services at the church cemetery. Farrar Funeral Home of Jefferson City is in charge of arrangements.

Asilee “Blondie” Patterson Shipley
Asilee “Blondie” Patterson Shipley, age 76, of Dandridge, passed away Tuesday evening, May 23, 2000 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Daisy Moore Patterson; step-father, Amos Koontz; daughter, Carrie Lou Chandler and Phyllis Kay Shipley; son, Wayne Shipley; granddaughter, Angela Chandler; She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Tom F. Shipley; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas A. “Pete” and Ethel Shipley, Boyd F. “Bo” and Kay Shipley, Charles C. “Sam” and Kay Shipley, Steve and Jessilene Shipley all of Dandridge; grandson that she raised, David Chandler; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, James Frank Chandler; brothers, Mitchell E. “Pat” Patterson and wife Dorothy and Leonard C. “Bob” Patterson and wife Emma Jean. Funeral services, will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge with Rev. Marvin Hayes conducting the services. Interment icon will be Friday, May 26, at Hebron cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday from 6 - 8 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge.

Florence E. Bews
Florence E. Bews, age 93, of New Market, passed away Wednesday February 21, 2001 at Fort Sanders Medical Center. Mrs. Bews was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church of Jefferson City. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James D. and Sandra Bews of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and John Panella of New Market; son, Randy Tucker of Ontario, Canada; grandchildren, Tim Panella, MD, Daryl Panella, LLD and Laurel Stith; many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, February 23 at Fielden Funeral Home with Rev. James Dampier conducting the services. Interment icon services will be held In Resthaven Memorial Garden in Toronto Canada. Memorials may be made to the Thompson Cancer Survival Center, 1915 White Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37916.

Darlene Marie Bolden
Darlene Marie Bolden, age 38, of Morristown, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edward Wilburn and Helen Marie Wilburn. She is survived by her sons, Jessie Bolden and Dustin Bolden; daughter, Gina Bolden of Morristown; five grandchildren; sisters, Charlotte Craig of New Market and Wilma Church of Baxter, Tennessee; brother, Charles Wilburn and Glen Wilburn of Morristown; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 22, at Westside Chapel. Interment icon followed in Jarnagin cemetery.

Loyd Brewer
Loyd Brewer, age 88, of Dandridge, passed away Friday, February 16, 2001 at Life Care Center of Jefferson City. Mr. Brewer was an active member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church and was past Master of Brazelton Lodge #190 F & AM where he served as Lodge Chaplain for 32 years. He was a member of Kerbela Temple of Knoxville, Scottish Rite, Jefferson Chapter #0081 Royal Arch Masonry, Morristown Commandery #0022 Knight Templer and Morristown Council #113. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Lizzie (Rhodes) Brewer; sisters, Inna Mae Haun, Nannie Van McMurray, Alma Lou Marshall; brother, Ernest Brewer. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nina Wolfe Brewer; daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Gary Holt of Newport News, Virginia; grandchildren, Gloria and Greg Holt; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law and husband, Bobby and J.E. Vineyard of Knoxville. Funeral services were held Monday, February 19 at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge with Rev. Jeff Moncier conducting the services. Interment icon services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, in Dandridge Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites conducted by Brazelton Lodge #190.

George R. Churchman
George R. Churchman, age 88, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2001 at his residence. Mr. Churchman was a longtime member of Flat Gap Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and treasurer for many years. He was a retired builder and craftsman, former City Councilman, active in community affairs and belonged to many organizations. Mr. Churchman was a World War II Veteran and a retired United States Naval Reserve CPO. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Naomi Golden Churchman; parents, Nealie and Jack Churchman; brothers, Bruce, Charlie, Clyde and Hodge Churchman; sister, Mary Kate Voiles. He is survived by his daughter, Betty Jane Churchman of Jefferson City; in-laws, Edna Churchman of New Market, George and Judy Golden of Talbott, A.C and Lola Duncan of Loudon, Carol Trent of Talbott, George and Ima Susong of Morristown; several nieces and nephews; special friend Selma Collins. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, at Flat Gap Baptist Church with Rev. Martin Roach conducting the services. Family and friends will meet Wednesday, February 28, in Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a 2 p.m. graveside and interment icon service. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Jefferson County, P.O. Box 653, Jefferson City, Tennessee 37760. Fielden Funeral Home of New Market was in charge of arrangements.

Betty G. Love Clevenger
Betty G. Love Clevenger, age 53, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday evening February 21, 2001 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Clevenger was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred B. and Ina Ruth Love; brother, Jimmy R. Love. She is survived by her husband, Charles Houser of Jefferson City; sons, Gerald Love of Chattanooga, Ronnie Howard of New Market; daughter, Kimberly Foshie of Newport; sisters, Barbara Love of Morristown, Charlotte Shelton of Dandridge and Joyce Greene of Talbott; brother, Charles Love of Newport and Michael Love of Bybee; several nieces, nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, February 23, 2001 at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City with Rev. Troy Duncan conducting the services. Interment icon was held Saturday in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

Joe M. Cross
Joe M. Cross, age 66, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2001 after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Cross was a retired employee of Knoxvile Fire Department. He was a member of Masters Masonic Lodge #244. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Cross; parents, James and Lucy Cross. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Doran Sherfey of Johnson City, Deana Cross of White Pine, Dana and Don Burns of Newton, North Carolina; grandchildren, Heather Cretsinger, Jared Burns, Sarah Burns, Joseph Burns; sisters, Carol Davis, Linda Tarver; special friend, Carol Frye; several nieces, nephews and many friends. Masonic services were held Sunday, February 25. Funeral services followed with Rev. Bob Knisley conducting the services. Interment icon was held Monday in Asbury cemetery.

Jack Deering
Jack Deering, age 84, of White Pine, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at Lakeway Regional Hospital. Mr. Deering was a member of Edwards Chapel and an Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Guy, Ernest, Fred and Billy Deering; sister, Emma Ruth Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Earlean Deering of White Pine; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Randy Frazier of White Pine; sisters, Justine Higgins of Morristown and Carol Fox of White Pine; grandchildren, Shawn and Lindsey Frazier; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, February 23 at Mayes Mortuary with Rev. Ken Richey conducting the services. Graveside and interment icon services were held Saturday in White Pine cemetery with military honors provided by the V.F.W. Post #5266.
