Betty J. Clouse, age 68, of Dandridge, passed away Friday, July 23, 2004, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was co-owner of B.J. Video Store of Dandridge. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Bill Clouse; daughters, Melinda Clouse Poe, Yvonne Clouse, Delores Clouse; son, James Clouse and wife, Treva; grandchildren, Chad and Scott Clouse, Lauren Brackins and Christina Miller; great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Dillian Cruisortiz; brothers, Stevenson McNabb, Junior McNabb, Thomas McNabb and Bobby McNabb; sisters, Mary Lou Bailey, Cora Randolph, Lora Wilson and Patty Sue McNabb. Osa Gene Cochran
Osa Gene Cochran, age 78, passed away Friday, July 23, 2004, at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville after a battle with cancer. Mr. Cochran was a 23 year veteran of the United States Army attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a member of the Masons of Virginia and a member of River of Life Church in Jefferson City. He is preceded in death by his parents, Osa Raymond Cochran and Hanna Malone Cochran; daughter, Leatsa Marie Taylor; sister, Anna Mae Doughty; brothers, Lester and Wayne Cochran. He is survived by his daughters, Jean (Darlene) Ogle, Sandra Faye Kilgore, and Caroline Cochran; sons, Lester Wayne Cochran and John Raymond Cochran; step-daughters, Sharon Heck, Linda Johnson Bibbins and Sherrie Foshie; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, July 26, at the funeral home with Pastors Ted and Peggy Moore and Rev. J. B. Gulley conducting the service. Military graveside interment

Harold Clyde (Tom) Holt
Harold Clyde (Tom) Holt, age 81, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at his home after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City where he taught a boys Sunday School class. He served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Montgomery, which was sunk in the South Pacific and later aboard the USS Dennis J. Buckley. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local #5 and served as president of the SMW #5 Retirees Club. Harold coached and was treasurer of the Jefferson Little League Baseball for several years, and was the first president of the Jefferson County High School Band Boosters. As a long time member of the Jefferson County Lions Club, he served as president and chairman of the Sight Conservation Program. He received the Melvin Jones award for dedicated humanitarian services. Harold was recognized as a Hometown Hero by Modern Woodmen of America. He is preceded in death by his infant son, Steven Mark; parents, Willis J. Holt, Sr., and Bonnie Dunn Holt; sisters, Betty Catherine Holt and Irene Cogdill; brother, Willis J. Holt, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Adams Holt; daughters, Diana Dawn Goodwin of Port au Prince, Haiti, Kelly Delynn Holt of Chattanooga; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Denise and Michael A. Waterman; granddaughter, Erika Brianne Holt of Niceville, Florida; sisters, Juanita Davis of Greeneville, Josephine Webb of Cleveland and Shirley Conover of Knoxville. Graveside interment

Dorothy Lee Dalton Morgan, age 62, of New Market, passed away Friday, July 23, 2004, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was of the Baptist faith and was an employee of the Jefferson County Sanitation Department, member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the New Market Volunteer Fire Department. She is preceded in death by her parents, G.G. and Elizabeth Dalton; sisters, Trula Conroy, Fannie Stinnett; brothers, Arthur L. Dalton and James Taylor. She is survived by her husband, Clarence Tony Morgan; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Billy Anderson, Karen and Tracy Lovell, Tonia and Bobby Love; sons and daughters-in-law, Timmy and Glenda Morgan, Terry and Karen Morgan, all of New Market; step-daughter, Darlene Johnson of Knoxville; grandchildren, Brandon, Tiffany, Justin, Jamie, Nathan, Hayley, Magan, B.J., Stacy, Beth, Samantha, D.J., Tracy, Michael and Chris; sisters, Martha Richards of Georgia and Nancy Weaver of Colorado; brother, Floyd Dalton of Knoxville. Robert (Nip) Sherfield, age 76, of Dandridge, passed away Friday, July 23, 2004, at Life Care Center of Jefferson City. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Laura Sherfield and son, Ronald L. Sherfield. He is survived by his children, Gloria (Keith) S. Williams of Memphis, Robert Sherfield, Jr. and Linda (Cecil) S. Parson, all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Drs. Mialika (Marlon) Watkins of Memphis, Lakeycha S. Moore of Fresno, California, Keith Chad Williams of Memphis, Deana S. Willis, Demarcus Howell, Carlos Chandler, Jabari Sherfield, Alishka Sherfield, all of Knoxville; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Olden of Dandridge. Nina L. Swann, age 82, of Dandridge, passed away Friday, July 23, 2004, after a short illness. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Dandridge. She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Kermit (E.K.) Swann; three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, J.L. and Christine Swann of Dandridge; son, Leslie Swann of Dandridge; grandchildren, Melissah Bruce, Jennifer Smith, Allison Swann-Davis, Michael Dale Norman, Robbie Silver and Kristopher Eli Swann; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Hannah, Kaylea, and Alden; sisters, Frances Swann of Morristown and Grace Berrier of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. Mary Beatrice Williams, age 91, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Velma Mae Love Winstead, age 91, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City and was also a member of the Keenagers of the church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Winstead; father, Mort Love; mother and step-father, Frank and Maggie Eledge Slover; brothers, Claude Love and Bedford Odell Slover, Sr.; nephew, Bedford Odell Slover, Jr.; sister-in-law, Pauline Harrell. Edward E. Browning, of Winter Springs, Florida, passed away Monday, July 26, 2004. He was born in Knoxville, May 1, 1948. He is survived by his wife, Carol Browning; daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Ryan Barthus and Amanda and Jason Goldstein; grandchildren, Lauren Goldstein and Zachary Barthus; parents, Charles and Louise (Miller) Browning of Dandridge; sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and David Odell; brother, Ron Browning. Nell Gentry Dyer, age 85, of Cookville, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2004, in NHC Healthcare of Cookeville. She was born on Nov. 11, 1918, in Putnam County. Mrs. Dyer was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cookeville. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Beecher and Mary Elizabeth Taylor Gentry; husband, Joe F. Dyer; brother, Windell Gentry; sisters, Reba Thompson and Oneta Gentry.
