Norma Regina Bales Matthews, age 53, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Morristown and New Market, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2003 in Columbus after a battle with cancer. She was of the Baptist faith and had been employed by J.C. Penny for 12 years. She is preceded in death by her father, Thomas P. Bales. She is survived by her husband, C.D. Matthews; son, Kenny D. Matthews, both of Columbus; mother, Alice M. Bales of New Market; brothers, Bill and Jeffery Bales of New Market, Darrell Bales of Jefferson City; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 28, at 11 a.m. in Fielden Chapel with Rev. Tommy Lindsey and Rev. David Sumner conducting the service. Interment

Pauline Kelley Whaley
Pauline Kelley Whaley, age 61, of Kodak, passed away Friday, November 21, 2003, at U.T. Medical Center. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Jefferson City. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fate and Hautie Kelley. She is survived by her husband, Roy Whaley of Kodak; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Barbara Whaley, Jeff and Renee Whaley, Randall Whaley; daughter, Patricia Newberry; grandchildren, Daniel, Lacey, Casey, Eathon, Hunter and Joseph Whaley, Ashley and Heather Crooke, Austin Stapleton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cecil and Barbara Kelley, Buford and Pat Kelley, Dorothy Dellinger, Grace Moore, Leona Collins; sisters, Una Mae Brooks, Ruby Ashmoore and Judy Mealer; brothers-in-law, Conley, Troy and Leon Whaley; several nieces and nephews. Freddie Mae Debose
Freddie Mae Debose, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2003, at the Life Care Center of Jefferson City. She was born November 11, 1910 in Hope Hull, Alabama. Freddie was one of eighteen children. She was a member of Martha Davis Baptist Church. Before making her home in Jefferson City, she retire from Harlan County Hospital after many years of service in Harlan, Kentucky. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ulyss Debose; parents, Anthony Lee Russell and Lula (Brandy) Russell, all brothers and sisters, except one; niece she raised, Donzie (Russell) Greene. She is survived by her children she raised, Robert (Mary Ann) Greene of Talbott, Huge (Cynthia) Greene of Portsmouth, Ohio, Mary Elizabeth Sanford of Portsmouth, Ohio, Myra (Thomas) Dunson of Harlan, Kentucky and Ernest (Geneva) Cole; sister, Shirley (Glenn) Harbin of Harlan, Kentucky; devoted cousin, Elder Willie Lamb; several sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 22, at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Nathaniel Wilson conducting the service. Interment

David A. (Ducko) Denton
David A. (Ducko) Denton, age 45, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2003, at the University of Tennessee Hospital following a sudden illness. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #61. He served at the rank of Corporal with the Jefferson City Police Department with 22 years of service. He was very active in the Jefferson City Youth Baseball League and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is preceded in death by his father, Jim Denton; twin brother, Danny Alan Denton; sister, Dedra Dawn Denton; brother, Jimmy Darrell Denton. He is survived by his wife, Florence Denton of the home; son, Alan Denton; daughter, Tiffany Denton; mother, Joelene Denton of Jefferson City; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Don Stubblefield of Jefferson City; nephews, Bruce and Phillip Stubblefield; several aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives; long-time family friend almost as close as brothers, Wayne Hinkle and wife, Jeannie; special friend, Charlie Miller of Jefferson City. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 26, at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Sonny Strange, Rev. Rusty Webster and Rev. John Lawson conducting the service. Interment
will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens with full police honors. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Betty J. Hardin, age 76, of Strawberry Plains, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2003 after a lingering illness. She was a member of Strawberry Plains First Baptist Church and a retired employee of Magnavox. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lynn Griffin; sister, Mildred Griffin, Edith Griffin, Clara Stair, Ruth Newman, Louise Cate, Helen Hayter; brother, Robert Griffin. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Troy E. Nancy L. Peck, age 97, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2003 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was a homemaker and had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City since 1924, the year she came as a student to Carson-Newman College form her home in Greene County. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry G. Peck; parents, Cartherine J. Livingstone and Nathaniel T. Livingstone; four brothers and six sister. She is survived by her daughter, Mary J. Peoples, with whom she had made her home for the past fourteen years in Jefferson City; son, James H. Peck and wife, Linnea of Knoxville; daughter, Bette H. Brasher and husband, Jack of Farragut; daughter, Amy L. Torgerson and husband, Ray of Portland, Oregon; son, Edwin A. Jesse B. (J.B.) Brabson, age 76, of Strawberry Plains, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2004, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a graduate of Swift Memorial, retired from Martin Marietta Y-12 plant after 36 years of service, an Air Force veteran, and a lifetime member of Calvary St. Luke Presbyterian Church in Strawberry Plains. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Joyce; father and mother, Frank and Ophelia Brabson; brother, George.
