Truitt Jerome “T.J.” Agan
Truitt Jerome “T.J.” Agan, age 28, of Rome, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2003. He was of the Baptist faith and was a 1993 graduate of Jefferson County High School where he was on the track team for four years. Immediately following high school, T.J. joined the United States Navy where he served for four years achieving the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. Prior to his death, he was a department manager at Lowes, at the time of his death he was going back to college to get his degree. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Mrs. Malbert Alford. He is survived by his parents, Randy Allen Agan and Sharon Ruth Alford Agan of Rome, Georgia; sister, Mrs. Tiffany Nicole Agan Elrod and husband, Christopher Eugene Elrod, Calhoun, Georgia; niece, Azya Elizabeth Elrod; nephews, Kenlin Tyler Davis and Christopher Dayne Elrod; grandparents, T.C. Alford, Sr. of Rome; J.K. and Era Lee Agan of Cave Spring; aunt and uncles, T.C. Alford, Jr., W.L. Alford, James Larry Agan, Jerome Kenneth Agan, Joyce Ann Royal and Travis Lee Agan; several cousins. Funeral services were held Monday, April 7, in the chapel of Henderson & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene “Pap” Agan and Rev. Greg Robinson conducting the service. Interment icon followed in Rome Memorial Park with the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 honor guard conducting military graveside rites.

Margery Mote Audas
Margery Mote Audas, age 87, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She had been residing at Jefferson County Nursing Home. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen “Cathi” A. Jamison and husband, R. Alan Jamison, M.D., both of Morristown; son, James “Jim” Michael Audas and wife, Mary Ann Metts Audas, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Bonnie Jamison of Morristown, Amanda Jamison Corum of Knoxville, Traci Jamison Varner of Seattle, Washington, Leslie Goss of Knoxville, Sheril Wilson and Kevin Audas, both of Pittsburgh, and Jim Audas, Jr. of Aurora, Colorado; eight great-grandchildren; several in-laws. A memorial service was held Monday, April 7, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gary Kelly conducting the service. Mayes Mortuary, Morristown, was in charge of arrangements.

Delcie M. Brewer
Delcie M. Brewer, age 86, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her daughters, Marcie Hubbard of Georgia, Peggy Munsey and Margaret Fillers of Jefferson City; sons, Arthur Davidson of Jefferson City, Jerry and Curtis Davidson of Georgia; 27 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, April 4, at Fielden Chapel with Revs. Paul and Joe Devotie conducting the service. Interment icon were held Thursday, April 3, at Fielden Funeral Home in New Makret.

Gerald Alvin “Elvis” Garland
Gerald Alvin “Elvis” Garland, age 52, of Sneedville, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2003, as a result of cancer. He was employed by Dillard Smith Construction Company. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary Garland and grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Harley C. Brooks, Hallie Day and Robert Garland. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Che and Nicole Garland of Sneedville; grandson, Kurgan Garland of Sneedville; brother and sister-in-law, Greg Garland and Chris Evans of Cleveland; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia “Jean” and Tom Murphy of Baneberry; nieces and nephews, Kristen Garland of Memphis, Marc and Jessica Garland of Pound, Virginia, Nelia, Michael and Austin Koontz of Knoxville, Shelby Kirkpatrick, Ian Phillips and Hailey Hipshire of New Market, Grace Geci-Murphy of Atlanta; aunt and caregiver, Lillian Collins of Morristown; aunts and uncles, Lena and Earl Sandufer of Tallahassee, Florida, Rev. Mike and Sandra Brooks of Dandridge, Harley and Barbara Brooks of Ft. Worth, Texas, Vandell Large of Tazewell and Joan Brooks of Natural Bridge, Virginia; cousins, Lesia, Markus and Brandon Graham, Anthony and Chase Collins; several other cousins and friends. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, in Cunningham cemetery in Claiborne County. McNeil Funeral Home, Sneedville, is in charge of arrangements.

Lester Oglesby
Lester Oglesby, age 52, of Strawberry Plains, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Betty Oglesby, and brother, Edward Oglesby. He is survived by his sons, Brad, Jamie, and Donnie Oglesby; daughter, Betty Brown; grandchildren, Brice and Tyler Brown; brothers, Leon, Darrell and Tracy Oglesby; sister, Terry Wyrick. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 8, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of McCarty Mortuary with Rev. Bob Zavaptier conducting the service. Interment icon will follow in Caledonia cemetery. McCarty Mortuary, Knoxville, is in charge of arrangements.

Jo Churchwell Patterson
Jo Churchwell Patterson, of Dandridge, passed away Friday, April 4, 2003, following an extended illness. She accepted Christ at the age of 13. She was a member of V.F.W. Post #3380 Ladies Auxiliary and a 53 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and most recently, Martha Dandridge Chapter #438. She also served on the Dandridge Historical Society. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church having faithfully served in many offices. She was a retired employee of Phillips Consumer Electronics in supervision for 25 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Leonard G. Churchwell, a Methodist minister for 37 years; parents, Charlie and Georga Boyer Sensabaugh; brothers, Clarence, Charles, George and Jack Sensabaugh. She is survived by her husband, J.D. Patterson of Dandridge; daughter and family, Carolyn (Churchwell) and husband, David Voiles of White Pine and children, Christopher Voiles of White Pine, Michael, Laura, Brett & Josh Voiles of Greenville; sons and family, Charles (Bill) and wife, Kaye Chruchwell and children Chris and Angela Owens of Rutledge, Larry and wife, Doris Churchwell and children, Jeremy, Emily and Jessica Chruchwell of White Pine, Larry Ray, II and Stephanie Churchwell of Nashville, Nick, Lee, Nikole, and Dakota Churchwell of Knoxville; step-son and wife, J.J. and Julie Patterson of Dandridge; sisters, Mrs. Don (Peggy) Pruitt of Johnson City and Mrs. Nancy Howington of Kingsport; brother, Bob Sensabaugh of Church Hill; several nieces and nephews; special friends and neighbors, Bill and Peggy Fain, Hollis and Grace Russell, Dale and Martha Maburin, Kathleen and Sarah Poe, Charlie and Wanda Fain, Ashley Doughty, Charles and Betty Gantte; many other special friends. Funeral services were held Monday, April 7, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. John Thompson, Rev. Rick Hollifield and Rev. Mike Feely conducting the service. Interment icon followed in Hillcrest cemetery. Farrar Funeral Home, Dandridge, was in charge of arrangements.

Walter Stuart Rule, Jr.
Walter Stuart Rule, Jr., age 79, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at the Methodist Medical Center. He was born May 29, 1923, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a veteran of Word War II serving with the United States Army in 423rd Infantry Regiment. Mr. Rule was captured during the Battle of the Bulge and was held as a prisoner of war in Germany from December 1944 until May 1945. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. He was a 1948 graduate from the University of Tennessee (Knoxville) with a BS in Business Administration/ Personnel Management. He retired in 1985 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems / K-25, after 37 years, where he was a purchasing agent. He was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1945, and served as deacon, church treasurer and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the U.T. Century Club. Mr. Rule was an avid UT fan and loved sports in general, particularly bowling and golf. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Walter Stuart Rule, Sr. and Anne Marinda Tarwater Rule; first wife, Dorothy Robertson Judy Rule in August 1980 and by sisters, Dr. Evelyn T. Rule and Mary Sue Rule. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Virginia Boyt Fallin Rule; son, David Stuart Rule and wife, Karen Soard Rule of Maryville; daughter, Anne Judy Rule of Houston, Texas; step-daughter, Sandra Fallin Glover and husband, Rev. David Glover of New Market; brother, James Robert Rule and wife, Virginia of Knoxville; grandchildren, April Glover Martin and husband, Lyonel of Haleyville, Alabama, Joshua Stuart Rule, Daniel Edward Rule and Judy Michelle Rule, all of Maryville. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 4, 2003, First Baptist Church with Rev. David Glover conducting the service. Graveside interment icon services were held Saturday in Oak Ridge Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Volunteer State War Era Honor Guard. Weatherford Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Bernice Joy Shropshire
Bernice Joy Shropshire, age 71, of Dandridge, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2003. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Hal and Florence Lichlyter and sister, Gladys Fox. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Abe Shropshire; children, David Shropshire and wife, Becky, Calvin Shropshire and wife, Joyce, Troy Shropshire and wife, Becky, Debra Summey and husband, John, Janet Underwood and husband, Joe and Tammy Collier. She has 20 plus grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, April 7, at Indian Creek Church of God with Rev. Lennie Henry and Rev. Mitchell Woodson conducting the service. Interment icon followed in Dandridge Memorial Gardens. Farrar Funeral Home, Dandridge, was in charge of arrangements.

Tim Allyn
Tim Allyn, age 53, of Pigeon Forge, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Vanderbilt Hospital. He was of the Pentecostal Faith and was the Manger of Conner Auto Supply of Jefferson City. He was also a member of the New Market Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Julana Allyn; daughter, Diana Waldeck of Pigeon Forge; other children, Mary, Diana and Mark; two grandchildren; mother, Evelyn Allyn; sister, Judy Allyn; brother, Mike Allyn, all of New York; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 10, at 8 p.m. at Fielden Chapel with Rev. Russell Rhodes conducting the service. Fielden Funeral Home, New Market, is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Edward Morton
Charles Edward Morton, age 42, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Christine Morton. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 9, at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Graveside interment icon services will be held Thursday, April 10, at 11 a.m. in Cedar Grove cemetery. Westside Funeral Home, Morristown, is in charge of arrangements.

Carr Wallace Neal
Carr Wallace Neal, age 77, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at his home. He was born and raised in Jefferson City. He is preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Jessie Neal and brother, Bill Neal. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Susong Neal; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sally Neal of Atlanta; grandsons, Rob and Maria Neal of Florida, Dave and Mary Margaret Neal of Atlanta; great-grandsons, Robbie and Jack Neal; sister and brother-in-law, Frankie and Charles Hood. Family and friends will gather Saturday, April 12, at 1:45 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a 2 p.m. graveside interment icon service with Rev. Grant Bishop conducting the service. The family will visit with friends immediately following the graveside service.

Ian Sutherland
Graveside services for Lt. Colonel Sutherland, Jefferson City native, who died from injuries related to a sky-diving accident April 5, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, will be held Friday at East Tennessee Veterans cemetery, Lyons View Pike, Knoxville. Services will be in charge of Dr. Calvin Metcalf, interm pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Jefferson City.
A highly decorated Army veteran with a record of distinguished service he retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Special Forces School at Fort Bragg, NC.
After retirement Ian attended the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and received a Masters of Public Administration. He subsequently graduated from the School of Law at the University of Missouri in Columbia with a Juris Doctorate. At the time of his death he was the First Assistant Prosecuting Attorney of Cape Girardeau County. He was a Tennessee Squire, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Who's Who Among American Lawyers. He was the author of the book 1952-1982 Special Forces of the United States Army. He is survived by his three children, Duncan and Douglas Sutherland, and Anne S. Whaley of Knoxville; two sisters, Alice S. Pryor and Helen I. Jolley of Jefferson City; nieces, Mary Alice P. Lyon, Amy P. Colton, Helen P. Arnold; nephews, Dennis Pryor III, Seth Jolley; thirteen great-nieces and nephews.
