CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Pearl Matthews died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in a local health care facility. She was 95.
Formerly of Mentone, Ala., she had lived in the Cleveland area since 1940.
She attended the Church of God and was the widow of Jesse Edward Matthews.
Survivors include a daughter, Opal Jones, Rossville; two sons, Billy Matthews, Baton Rouge, La., and Clayton Matthews, Lakeland, Fla.; brother, Bordon Ivens, DeForrest, Wis.; three sisters, Edith Taylor and Geneva Mills, both of Rossville, and Wanda McCullough, Chattanooga; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Dolas Bain officiating.
Burial will be in Bankhead cemetery in Mentone.
Visitation will be today after 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Dewey Meeks
TRACY CITY, Tenn. - Dewey 'Red' Meeks Jr. died Monday, March 29, 1999, at his home. He was 63.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Foster & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Rigsby officiating.
Burial will be in Wesley Chapel cemetery.
C.D. Melton
TRACY CITY, Tenn. - C.D. Melton died Thursday, March 30, 1999, in a Knoxville hospital. He was 80.
He was a resident of the Clouse Hill community near Tracy City and was a retired truck driver and coal miner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Melton, and his grandson, Billy Edward Melton.
Survivors include five sons, Dave, Henry, Tom, Bill and Wayne Melton, all of Tracy City; a daughter, Virginia Hughes, Chattanooga; two sisters, Helen Melton and Christine Parson, both of Tracy City; 19 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Cumberland Funeral Home in Tracy City.
Burial will be in Clouse Hill cemetery.
William Ottman
ETOWAH, Tenn. - William H. 'Bill' Ottman died Monday, March 29, 1999, at his home. He was 70.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Crockett officiating.
Entombment will be in the Green Hill Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

GUILD, Tenn. - Alma Lee Garrett Owens died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at her home. She was 80.
A graveside service will be today at 1 p.m. CST in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ronnie Smith officiating.
Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. CST at Guild Baptist Church.

SWEETWATER, Tenn. - Charles O. Scruggs died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at his home. He was 54.

JACKSBORO, Tenn. - The Rev. Frank Shown died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at his home. He was 72.
He had been a Baptist minister for 51 years and pastored several churches in the Campbell area.
Survivors include his wife, Nola Daugherty Shown; six daughters, Emma Baird, Cherry Bottom, Tenn., Della Burris and Angela Kimberlin, Jacksboro, Ella Kidwell, Ider, Ala., Helen Lewis, Tazewell, Tenn., and Carolyn Alexander, Lenoir City, Tenn.; four sons, Donnie Shown, Jacksboro, Ronnie Shown, Rossville, Ga., Keith Shown, Lenoir City, and Arvil Shown, Chattanooga; two brothers, Ed and Billy Shown, Jacksboro; four sisters, Letha Fraley, Jacksboro, Geneva Russell, LaFollette, Irene Ballard, Elk Valley, and Odessa Lewis, Illinois.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Indian Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Heatherly and other ministers officiating.
Burial will be Indian Creek cemetery.

Jean Ward
ATHENS, Tenn. - A. Jean Howell Ward died Monday, march 29, 1999, at her home. She was 62.
Mrs. Ward, a native of Evensville, Tenn., and a former resident of Battle Creek, Mich., attended the Church of God and was a former employee of Westvaco Carton Container Division.
Survivors include her husband, Charles S. "Sonny' Ward, Athens; daughter, Elesa McDaniels; a son, Jack Beaudrie, both of Battle Creek; two stepdaughters, Brenda Charlene King and Angela Joyce King, both of Decatur, Tenn.; three stepsons, Cheston B. and Michael S. Ward, both of Charleston, Tenn., and Charles A. Ward, Decatur; four sisters, Reda Jackson and Mary Ellis, both of Battle Creek, Audrey Yaw, Chandler, Ariz., and Linda Standridge, Athens; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be today at 3 p.m. at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Hamilton officiating.

Ella Worthy
FARNER, Tenn. - Ella Worthy died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 92.
She was a lifelong resident of Farner and a member of Farner Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Edward and Robert Worthy, both of Farner; two daughters, Jean Taylor, Kokomo, Ind., and Gladys Duggan, Farner; a brother Lewis Taylor, Cleveland; sister Lula Worthy, Farner; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Finch-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in Zion Hill cemetery.
Paul Wiley
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Paul Wiley died Monday, March 8, 1999, in a local nursing facility. He was 79.
He was a former resident of Anderson, Ind., and Fort Myers, Fla. He was a Baptist, and was preceded in death by his wife, Arrie Mildred Wiley.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Wiley, Riceville, Tenn., and John Wiley, India; three grandchildren.
Services and burial will be Friday in Indiana.

Roy Smith
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Roy A. Smith died Sunday, March 7, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 78.
Mr. Smith was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Cloverleaf Baptist Church.
He was the husband of the late Joella Smith, and the father of the late Dwight Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Smith; two sons, Larry and Jerry Smith, Cleveland; two sisters, Dixie Sunday, Coldwater, Mich., and Coreen Waters, Cleveland; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, five stepchildren and 10 stepgrandchildren.

TEN MILE, Tenn. - John F. Kennedy 'Johnny' Shelton died Sunday, March 7, 1999, from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident. He was 36.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.B. Shelton and two brothers, William and Winford Shelton.
Survivors include his wife, Becky Shelton; one daughter, Heather Shelton; two sons, Brandon and Justin Shelton, all of Ten Mile; his mother, Dellie Shelton, Ten Mile; two brothers, Sammy R. and James E. Brown Gordon
SPRING CITY, Tenn. - Brown Joe Gordon died Sunday, March 7, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 83.
He was a member of King Memorial Seventh-day Adventist Church of Spring City, a former mayor of Red Bank, a retired merchant and was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Gordon; three sons, Bobby W. Gordon, Red Bank, Billy R. Gordon, Graysville, and Roger L. Gordon, Graysville, Tenn.; one stepson, John Taylor, Gate City, Va.; two brothers, Paul Gordon, Graysville, and Alton Gordon, Red Bank; one sister, Bonnie Hicks, Dayton; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with pastor David Jones and other ministers officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery.
