Rosemary Mason
Rosemary Howard Ballanger Mason died Monday, March 15, 1999, in a local hospital.
She was a native of Warren County and was raised in Chattanooga.
She was a Baptist and was preceded in death by her mother, Queen Ester Sykes, and her father, Bish Tanksley.
Survivors include three sons, Arthur Jr., Gregory and Randall Ballanger, all of Chattanooga; a daughter, Melita Mason, Davis, Calif.; three sisters, Linda Moss, Chattanooga, Teresa Tanksley and Vera Collins; brother, Clifford Tanksley; a stepmother, Florent Tanksley, all of Warrenton, Ga.; and several grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie Hammonds officiating.
Burial will be in Highland cemetery.
The body will be at the funeral home after noon today.
Janet Parks
Janet Head Parks died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at her home. She was 56.
Mrs. Parks was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She had worked as a sales clerk for J.C. Penney.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Parks; two sons, Rodney H. Parks, McMinnville, Tenn., and David W. Parks, Chattanooga; a daughter, Stephanie P. O'Neill; her parents, Oscar Johnson and Doris Margaret Head, Chattanooga; a brother, Manning Head; a sister, Linda Newman, Chattanooga; and a grandson.
A graveside service will be today at 11:30 a.m. in Chattanooga National cemetery with Hank Humphries officiating.
Arrangements are by the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home.
Robert Pfeiffer
Robert L. 'Bob' Pfeiffer Jr. died Thursday, March 11, 1999, in Riviera Beach, Fla.
He was a former resident of Chattanooga and attended Notre Dame High School.
Mr. Pfeiffer followed his grandfather and father in the hotel business and had been with the Old Signal Mountain Hotel and in managerial positions at other hotels in Florida, Colorado Springs, Ohio and New Orleans.
Mr. Pfeiffer was a Roman Catholic and was ordained a permanent deacon at St. Matthews Cathedral in Washington.
He enlisted in the Air Corps during World War II and was commissioned a lieutenant in the Eighth Air Force. He piloted a B-17 for more than 50 missions.
He was the son of the late R. Lee and Madelaine Pfeiffer and the brother of the late Bill Pfeiffer.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Smith Pfeiffer; three children, Judith Russo, Ambler, Pa., Robert Pfeiffer III and Cynthia Meyerson, Silver Springs, Md.; three sisters, Betty Sheulin, Riviera Beach, Jane Davis, Hendersonville, N.C., and Dorothy Richards, Chattanooga; and two nieces.
A mass of resurrection was offered at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Riviera Beach by Bishop Anthony O'Connell.
Burial will be Saturday in Louisville, Ky.

Lorena Pitts
Lorena 'Babe' Pitts of Chickamauga, Ga., died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in a local nursing care facility. She was 91.
A graveside service will be today at 10 a.m. in Lookout cemetery with the Rev. Donald Self officiating.
Arrangements are by W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home.

Pamela Presley
Pamela Karen Presley of Apison died Thursday, March 18, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 40.
She was associated with the Orange Grove Center for more than 30 years, and at the time of her death, she was employed at the McDonald's restaurant in Ooltewah. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Ooltewah.
Survivors include her parents, Earl and Florene Presley, Apison; three sisters, Shirley Boring, Cleveland, Vicki Teague and Sandra Walker, both of Apison; and a brother, Millard Presley, Chattanooga.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. William Swanson officiating.
Burial will be in Plowman cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Estelle Rogers
Estelle Mae Rogers of Soddy-Daisy died Thursday, March 18, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 89.
Mrs. Rogers owned and operated Rogers Grocery on Bean Street in Soddy-Daisy for 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Jonah Rogers, and a son, Joe Rogers.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Williams and Doris Rogers, both of Soddy-Daisy.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Phil Shellabarger officiating.
Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Howard Sanland
Howard L. Sanland, who retired from McKee Baking as a route supervisor, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in a local hospital.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Stephens officiating.
Burial will be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park, with Rossville Masonic Lodge 397 conducting graveside rites.
The family will receive friends after noon today at the funeral home.
Alberta Sardin
Alberta Frances Sardin died Saturday, March 13, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 70.
Services will be today at 1 p.m. at Joseph Chapel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Eveatt Hobson officiating.
Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens.
The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

LaVeta P. Seward died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at her home. She was 75.

Juanita Sewell
Hazel Juanita Sexton Sewell of Red Bank died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 77.

Burial will be in Lenoir City cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Harold Sherrod
Harold W. Sherrod of Knoxville, a former resident of Chattanooga, died Thursday, March 18, 1999. He was 88.
He was a member of Chattanooga First Baptist Church for almost 40 years. Before that he was a charter member of First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, Tenn., where he was affiliated with Union Carbide.
He graduated from the University of Tennessee, where he was a member of the track team, 'T' Club, and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
Mr. Sherrod retired from TVA in Chattanooga.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Dance Sherrod.
Survivors include a son, Joe D. Sherrod, Knoxville; a daughter, Sandra Springfield, Mims, Fla.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Thursday in Lynnhurst cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a favorite charity.

Athelene Spearman
Athelene Cox Spearman of Little Rock, Ark., died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in a hospital there.
She was a native of Monticello, Ark. She and her late husband, George S. Spearman Jr., lived in Knoxville for many years.
Her remains will be interred in the Spearman family plot in Forest Hills cemetery here.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Kermit Lee 'Bud' Smith of Rossville died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at his home. He was 80.

She was a member of New Vernon Grove Baptist Church and a former employee of Hy's, Brainerd Car Wash and the G&E; Cafe.
Survivors include a daughter, Vickie D. Merrell, Chattanooga; a sister, Michelle D. Bradley, Chattanooga; her mother, Mamie Jenkins; a grandfather, George Nelson, Warrenton, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Crombie-Pinkard Funeral Home with elder Harris Toney officiating.
Burial will be in Highland cemetery.

Eddie Winbush
Eddie Winbush died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at his home. He was 37.
He was employed at Erlanger Medical Center for 19 years.
Survivors include his wife, Adrienne Winbush; a son, Edrus Winbush; his mother, Dorothy L. Winbush; a sister, Connie Alfred, Atlanta; and two brothers, Jimmie Winbush, Chattanooga, and Lee Barrett, Norfolk, Va.
