SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tenn. - Bill Murray died Sunday, April 4, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 69.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. CDT at Rogers Funeral Home, South Pittsburg, with the Rev. Darrell Nunley officiating.
Burial will be in Tate cemetery.
Thomas Nichols
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Thomas Andrew Nichols died Monday, April 5, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 86.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, was retired from Ferrell and Fritt Enamel Co. and attended Hiwassee Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son, John Conrad Nichols, Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, William G. Nichols, Calhoun, Tenn., and Stanley K. Nichols, Rossville, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Wildwood Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Home with the Rev. James Hicks officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.
Samuel Smith
JASPER, Tenn. - Samuel Frederick Smith Jr. died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 75.
He was a lifelong resident of Jasper and a graduate of Marion County High School and the University of Chattanooga.
He was a former employee of Braden Funeral Home in Jasper, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of Jasper Memorial Post 6362 (where he served as quartermaster for 38 years), a member of American Legion Post 62, and a life member of the DAV, Post 13. He was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a niece, Virginia Ann Smith, South Pittsburg, Tenn.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. CDT at McKendree United Methodist Church in Jasper, with the Rev. David Tabor officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home, Jasper.
Alice Christiansen
GREAT BEND, Kan. - Alice Edith Christiansen died Sunday, April 4, 1999.
She was a graduate of Great Bend High School and a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Christiansen served 25 years at St. Mark Sunday School, part of that time as superintendent, and was a member of RSVP, Volunteer Hope Inc.
She was the widow of August Christiansen.
Survivors include four sons, David Christiansen, Great Bend, Arthur Christiansen, Colorado Springs, Colo., Jon Christiansen, Las Vegas, and Bruce Christiansen, Lebo, Kan.; three daughters, Peggy Stambaugh, Great Bend, Sandra Brown, Chattanooga, and Glenna Grant, Topeka, Kan.; a brother, Glen Smith, also of Topeka; 24 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Fryberger Mortuary in Great Bend.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or the Kansas Tuberculosis & Health Association.
Edith Privette
KNOXVILLE - Edith Devonia Privette died Thursday, April 1, 1999, in a Soddy-Daisy health care facility. She was 90.
Mrs. Privette was the oldest member of City View Baptist Church in Knoxville.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jack 'Evelyn' Bannister, Chattanooga, and Mrs. Wiley 'Mildred' Allmon, Knoxville; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 5 p.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Mooney and the Rev. Laura Trent officiating.

Dorothy Stewart
KNOXVILLE - Dorothy Bell Stewart, formerly of Chattanooga, died Sunday, April 4, 1999, in a Knoxville hospital. She was 75.
Mrs. Stewart was a member of Tremont Baptist Church in Chattanooga and was widowed by both Thomas Dagnan and Herschel Stewart.
Survivors include two sons, James Bowden, Savannah, Ga., and Jack Bowden, Knoxville; two daughters, Bobbie Reynolds and B.J. Meigs, both of Knoxville; a brother, J.T. Bell, Baxter, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Steve Highlander officiating.

James W. Ables died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 63.

Nellie Allen Nellie Allen died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, in a local health care facility. She was 88.
She was a member of St. Elmo Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Keith, Chattanooga, and Denise Moore, Chicago; brother, Walter Hicks, Milwakee, Wis.; two sisters, Hilda Baker and Sophia Parks, Chattanooga; foster daughter, Evelyn Jackson; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Elmo Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Church officiating.
Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.
Winola Blackburn
Winola Blackburn of East Ridge died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 65.
A native of Alabama, she had been a resident of the Chattanooga area for many years and was a member of the Gospel Light Assembly Church of God.
She was the daughter of the late Hugh and Myrtle Patterson Mitchell.
Survivors include her husband, Don Blackburn; two daughters, Debra L. Horne, Chattanooga, and Joyce Haynes, East Ridge; four brothers, Verlon, Ray, Ben and Roger Mitchell, all of Fyffe, Ala.; two sisters, Jean Jones, Chattanooga, and Burma McCain, Ringgold; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Gospel Light Assembly Church of God with the Rev. Paul Grider officiating.
Burial will be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends after noon today at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.
Ned Brown
Ned Brown of East Ridge died Tuesday, April 6, 1999. He was 85.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church and was retired as a commercial artist from the Tennessee Valley Authority.
A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., he was active in the Lutheran School program, having painted stage scenery there.
Mr. Brown was a graduate of John Herron Art School and was a 12-year veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a survivor of Pearl Harbor and was a member of the Pearl Harbor Association.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha A. Brown; one daughter, Linda Hartbarger, Chattanooga; one brother, James Brown, Woodburn, Ind.; two sisters, Betty Steiner, Prudenville, Mich., and Dorothy McConnell, Charlotte, N.C.; and two granddaughters.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Herbert Riethmeier officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Virginia Buchanan died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 47.
She was a graduate of Howard High School.
Survivors include her mother, Virginia Brooks; two sons, Oscar Buchanan and James Owens; three sisters, Terry, Audrey and Marie Brooks; four brothers, Charles, Lebron, Thomas, and Oscar Buchanan.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Hamilton officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hills cemetery.
Gene Chewning
Gene Chewning, who retired as a pharmaceutical representative for Abbott Laboratories, died Monday, April 5, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 63.
Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.
The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Mickey Crowe Duckett died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 74.
She was a graduate of Central High School and had been employed at Combustion Engineering as a clerk and at Ernest Holmes Co., as a billing clerk.
Survivors include her husband, James Duckett; one daughter, Toni Bosi, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one son, Steven Duckett Ga.; one sister, Dorothy Gilreath, Chattanooga; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Chattanooga National cemetery.
