SPRING CITY - Lois Virginia Broyles died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, in a Knoxville hospital. She was 74.
Mrs. Broyles, a native of Mississippi, was a homemaker and a charter member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Roy F. Broyles; son, Terry Broyles, Spring City; a brother, Arthur Haney, Grandview, Tenn.; sister, Ivy Goodman, Spring City; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Vaughn Funeral Home with the Rev. David Jordan and the Rev. Claude Pendergrass officiating.
Burial will be in Spring City cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burtia Campbell
COALMONT - Burtia Mae Campbell died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 94.
She was the widow of Clency Campbell.
Survivors include two sons, Tommy Campbell, Tracy City, and Sherman Campbell, Gruetli-Laager, Tenn.; two daughters, Cleo Elizabeth Sanders, Tracy City, and Jessie Campbell, Coalmont; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Cumberland Funeral Home, Tracy City, with the Rev. Jim Caldwell officiating.
Burial will be in Coalmont cemetery.
David Cox
CLEVELAND - David Franklin Cox died Sunday, April 25, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 81.
He was a mechanic's helper and tire changer, having retired from General Tire Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Church of God Sanctified.
Survivors include his wife, Precious Underwood Cox; a daughter, Davidia Moore, Knoxville; three stepsons, James and Larry Smith, both of Chattanooga, and Michael Smith, Clinton, Tenn.; one grandchild.
Services will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of God Sanctified with elder Gullford R. Hill officiating.
Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Chattanooga National cemetery.
Arrangements are by Patton Funeral Home.
Genevieve Elrod
CLEVELAND - Genevieve Marie Elrod died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 85.
She was the widow of Henry L. Elrod and a member of Big Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Bain, Cleveland, and Carol Hickman, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a brother, Edward Hickman, Centerville, Tenn.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be today at 4 p.m. at the Wildwood Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Thacker officiating.
Burial will be in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.
Nellie Evans
ATHENS - Nellie Evans died Sunday, April 25, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 77.
She was a member of Freedman's Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she served on the usher board, missionary society and was the financial secretary of the Hiwassee Presbytery for more than 40 years.
She was employed by Robett Manufacturing in Riceville, Tenn., for more than 17 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Faulkner, Sacramento, Calif.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Freedman's Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harry Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in Hammonds cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.
Wilbur Hopper
MARYVILLE - Wilbur L. Hopper died Monday, April 26, 1999, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was 86.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. James Green officiating.
Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
Fred Jackson
ETOWAH - Fred M. Jackson died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 89.
Mr. Jackson, a native of McMinn County, retired from L&N; Railroad and Burlington Industries. He was a deacon at Mt. Olive AME Zion Church for several years.
Survivors include two daughters, Almeda Williams, Etowah, and Jackie Warren, Athens; two sons, James Jackson, Cleveland, and Kenneth Jackson, Etowah; a sister, Mamie Jackson, Etowah; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Mt. Olive AME Zion Church with the Rev. Joe Moore officiating.
Burial will be in New Zion cemetery in Etowah.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the funeral home.
Charles Sampley
MONTEAGLE - Charles Wilburn 'Wib' Sampley died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, in Falls City, Neb. He was 85.
Mr. Sampley was a lifelong resident of Monteagle, a retired carpenter and a former employee of the U.S. Weather Service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Morton Memorial United Methodist Church, Summitt Lodge 497 F&AM; at Sewanee, Tenn., the American Legion, served as an alderman for Monteagle and was on the election commission.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Rogers Sampley.
Survivors include a son, Charles W. Sampley Jr., Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Shirley Gale Neil, Lillian, Ala.; brother, William J. Sampley, Monteagle; a sister, Sarah Brown, Chattanooga; and four grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. CDT at Morton Memorial United Methodist Church in Monteagle, Tenn., with the Rev. Allison Gilliam officiating.
Burial will be in Monteagle cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home, South Pittsburg.

DUNLAP - David Haskell 'Hack' Shell died Thursday, April 29, 1999, in a Chattanooga hospital. He was 74.
Mr. Shell was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Hadders, Illinois, and Mary Bilbrey, Kingston, Tenn.; seven sons, Larry, Chester, Rodney, Kenneth, Randall and Terry Shell, all of Dunlap, and Glen Shell, Indiana; three sisters, Margaret Decker, Betty Branam and Evelyn Ritcherson, all of East Ridge; two brothers, William D. Shell, Sale Creek, Tenn., and Bervin Shell, East Ridge.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. CDT at Putnam-Standefer-Reed Funeral Home.

CLEVELAND - Roy Lee Suits died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 82.
Mr. Suits was a Baptist and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Cora Lillian Suits; a daughter, Yvonne Wilson, Cleveland; stepdaughter, Ann McMahan, Cleveland; three sisters, Jean Givens, Cleveland, Geraldine Mason, McDonald, Tenn., and Kathleen Kersey, Cleveland; one stepsister, Grace Lane, Mississippi; a half sister, Kay Beeler, Knoxville; and a stepbrother, Phillip Lawson, Charleston, Tenn.

AMITYVILLE, N.Y. - Michael Lebron Jones Jr. died Monday, May 10, 1999, at his home. He was 28.

LAKE WALES, Fla. - Hazel Sanders died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, in Lake Wales Medical Center. She was 73.
She was a homemaker and attended First Assembly of God Church in Lake Wales. She was the widow of Edward S. Sanders.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Sanders and Shirley Coffey, both of Lake Wales, and Judy Delongchamp, Miami; three sons, Ireland Sanders, Lake Placid, Fla., Dannie Sanders, Sebring, Fla., and Randall Sanders, Brandon, Fla.; brother, Andrew Jackson, Whitwell, Tenn.; a sister, Amanda Davidson, Chattanooga; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services and burial will be Saturday in Lake Wales.
