Philip Moss
Philip A. Moss, co-founder and retired from Golden Gallon Stores, died Monday, May 17, 1999, at his home in Apison. He was 84.

Services will be today at 2:30 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Readith Pitts
Readith Francis 'Granny' Pitts of Hixson died Monday, May 17, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 86.

She retired after 25 years from the Children's Home / Chambliss Shelter. She was a Baptist and the widow of Arlie Pitts.

Survivors include two daughters, Helen Washer, Panama City, Fla., and Jewel Kelly, Happy Valley, Ga.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North, with the Rev. Ted Painter officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mildred Porter
Mildred Florence Bradley Porter died Monday, May 17, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 81.

Mrs. Porter had lived in the Chattanooga area most of her life and was a member of St. Elmo Baptist Church.

She was the mother of the late Raymond King and Linda Darlene Long.

Survivors include three sons, Lewis King, Atchecubbie, Ala., James King, Marietta, Ga., and Jerry Long, Rossville; four daughters, Mary Nell Moulton, LaGrange, Ky., Jo Ann Henderson, Marlene Corn and Shirley Earnshaw, all of Chattanooga; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home with Roger Kettle officiating.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

Visitation will be all day today and Thursday morning before the service at the funeral home.

May Pouncy
May Bell Pouncy died Friday, May 14, 1999, at her residence. She was 85.

She was a Jehovah's Witness.

Survivors include two sisters, Clara Landrum, Santa Monica, Calif., and Jo Ella Johnson, Cleveland, Ohio; a son, Gene Hester, Atlanta; one grandchild, and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home with Samuel Peeples officiating.

Burial will be in Park City cemetery in Madisonville, Tenn.

Visitation will be after noon today at the funeral home.

Eric Powell
Eric James Powell died Monday, May 17, 1999, at a local residence. He was 27.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with the Rev. Royce Powell officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur (Tenn.) City cemetery.

Travis Ray Travis Harold Ray of East Brainerd died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at his home. He was 68.

Arrangements will be announced by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Leon Rhodes
Leon G. Rhodes Sr. died Sunday, May 16, 1999. He was 86.

A graveside service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Tyner cemetery with the Rev. Mel Crosson officiating.

Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 8 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East.

Charles Scruggs Charles Edward Scruggs Sr. died Sunday, May 16, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 70.

A graveside service will be today at 11 a.m. in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Donald Ferguson officiating.

Arrangements are by the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

William Smith
William C. Smith of Ooltewah died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, in a local health care facility. He was 81.

Mr. Smith was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Green Pond Baptist Church.

He was retired from Quaker Oats Co.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Clements Smith; three sons, Michael and Randy Smith, both of Chicago, and Jim Smith, Akron, Ohio; two daughters, Cindy Smith, San Francisco, and Sharon Hodges, Marietta, Ga.; three stepsons, Richard, Robert and Tom Craig, all of Chattanooga; two sisters, Elizabeth Nims and Anna Mae Arnold, both of Maryland; and four grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North, with the Rev. Clankston Freeman officiating.

Burial will be in Brayton cemetery.

The family will receive friends today and Thursday after 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rebecca Taylor
Rebecca Coulter Taylor of Soddy-Daisy died Friday, May 14, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 94.

She was a Baptist and the widow of Ralph Taylor.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Catherine Peek and Dorothy Jones, both of Soddy-Daisy; two sons, John A. Taylor, Soddy-Daisy, and Robert L. Taylor, Chattanooga; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home with Edward Thrasher officiating.

Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.

Vinnie Yeager
Vinnie Mae Alder Yeager died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at her home. She was 88.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. CST at Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Whitwell with the Rev. Arthur Wood and the Rev. George Stratton officiating.

Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery.

Arrangements are by J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home, Chattanooga.

Edgar Ashley
Edgar A. Ashley of Hixson and the Big Ridge Community died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at his home. He was 75.

Services will be today at 10 a.m. at North Chapel, Chattanooga Funeral Home, with the Rev. Patrick Kelly officiating.

Burial will be at Hamilton Gardens cemetery.

Edith Barnard Edith Elizabeth Barnard of Harrison died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at a local health care facility. She was 91.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at Greenwood Baptist Church with the Rev. James Vaughn and the Rev. Ernest Sutton officiating.

Burial will be at Old McDonald cemetery.

The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Arrangements are by the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home.

David Bragg
David Anthony Bragg of East Ridge died Saturday, May 15, 1999. He was 38.

A native of Savannah, Ga., he had lived in Hopkinsville, Ky., before moving to East Ridge five months ago. He attended the Church of God and was a member of the Ames Center.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Harmon Bragg Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Toni Sharp Bragg; mother and stepfather, Jane C. and Walter Prince, East Ridge; daughter, Stephanie Nicole Bragg, Jefferson City, Mo.; son, Leo Anthony Bragg, East Ridge; four sisters, Cynthia Bragg and Roxanne E. Baker, Chattanooga, Paulette L. Clark, Martinsburg, W. Va., Roxanne and Katherine Hawkins, Colorado; two brothers, Paul H. Clinton, Albuquerque, N.M., and Allen D. McCarver II, Chattanooga; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest cemetery in Savannah, with the Rev. Vincent Kobosk officiating.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 8 p.m. at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.

Letha Brumit
Letha Acuff 'Granny' Brumit died Monday, May 17, 1999, at her home. She was 99.

A native of Rhea County, she had lived in Bledsoe County before moving to Chattanooga. She was a member of Red Bank Church of Christ and was a well-known antique dealer.

Survivors include a daughter, Billie Cooze, Red Bank; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be today at 7:30 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

Burial will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Betty Clark Betty Gladys Clark died Monday, May 17, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 73.

Arrangements will be announced by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Zola Clark
Zola L. Clark died Sunday, May 16, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 93.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd, with the Rev. Tony Weaver officiating.

Burial will be at Tyner cemetery.

Carolyn Cramer
Carolyn Ann Burrow Cramer died Sunday, May 16, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 58.

She was a native of Rock Spring, Ga., and had lived most of her life in the Rossville and East Brainerd areas.

She was preceded in death by her father, Roy S. Burrow. She was a member of Silverdale Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Cramer; two daughters, Lynn Morrison and Andrea Cramer, both of Chattanooga; three sons, Ronnie Cramer Jr., Soddy-Daisy, Tracy and Jeff Cramer, both of Chattanooga; her mother, Mollie Burrow, Rossville, Ga.; five sisters, Barbara Thomison, Chickamauga, Ga., Virginia O'Kelley, Glenda Skidmore, and Brenda Burrow, all of Rossville, and Elizabeth Evans, Charlotte, N.C.; four brothers, Lamar Burrow, Dickson, Tenn; Luther Burrow, Rossville, Gene Burrow, Trenton, Ga., and Johnny Burrow, Chickamauga; nine grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Silverdale Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John McCarty officiating.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
