Emmett Eller
Emmett Alford Eller of East Ridge died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 86.
Mr. Eller was a native of Alabama and had formerly worked for the U.S. Justice Department as a heating and air engineer.
He was the father of the late Tommy Byas.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Eller; daughter, Selma Fountain, East Brainerd; two sons, Don Byas, Rossville, and Gene Byas, Crofton, Md.; three sisters, Myrtle Perkins, East Brainerd, Maxine Hobson, Fort Worth, Texas, and Jessie Lee Ohley, Alton, Ill.; several grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements will be announced by W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m.
Charles Frederick
Charles E. Frederick of Ooltewah, a native of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 86.
He was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, a graduate of the Chattanooga High School Class of 1931 and past president and C.E.O. of Rutledge Lumber and Manufacturing Co.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Parker Frederick; two sons, Charles E. Frederick Jr. and Robert L. Frederick, both of Chattanooga; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Greenwood cemetery with Dr. J. Render Caines officiating.
Arrangements are by the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Readith Pitts
Readith Francis 'Granny' Pitts of Hixson died Monday, May 17, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 86.
Services will be today at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North, with the Rev. Ted Painter officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
May Pouncy
May Bell Pouncy died Friday, May 14, 1999, at her residence. She was 85.
Services will be today at 11 a.m. at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home with Samuel Peeples officiating.
Burial will be in Park City cemetery in Madisonville, Tenn.
Travis Ray
Travis Harold Ray of East Brainerd died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at his home. He was 68.
Mr. Ray, a former resident of Rockmart, Ga., had lived in Washington before moving to Chattanooga 15 years ago. He was a member of Bayside Baptist Church and was retired from Western Union after 35 years and from the Tennessee Valley Authority.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a 32nd-degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Harrison Ruritan Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris M. Ray.
Survivors include a daughter, Ginger Ray, Cartersville, Ga.; two sons, David H. Ray, Austin, Texas, and Randy L. Ray, Chattanooga; mother, Evie Ray, Rockmart, Ga.; two brothers, Charles Ray, Skyville, Md., and Carlos Ray, Atlanta; three sisters, Yvonne Taff, Latrelle Ellis and Sandra Jarvis, all of Rockmart; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with the Rev. Bob Stitts officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ann Reynolds
Ann Reynolds of Ooltewah died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 57.
A native of Wartrace, Tenn., she had spent most of her life in Manchester, Tenn, and had worked for Eden Industries and Pajama Corp. of America.
She was a member of Tullahoma Seventh-day Adventist Church and was preceded in death by a brother, Leland Harvey Arnold, and a sister, Lacy Mae Lynch.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Nunley, Madison, Tenn., and Randy Galloway, Richmond, Va.; brother, John Howard Arnold, Kokomo, Ind.; stepmother, Opheia Driver, Wartrace; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. CST at Tullahoma Seventh-day Adventist Church with the Rev. Jim Herman officiating.
There will be no visitation at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.
Leon Rhodes
Leon G. Rhodes Sr. died Sunday, May 16, 1999. He was 86.
A graveside service will be today at 2 p.m. at Tyner cemetery with the Rev. Mel Crosson officiating.

Pauline Slater
Pauline West Slater, the wife of the Rev. Arnold Slater, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999.
Mrs. Slater served as an active participant in her husband's ministry in several pastorates in Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.
She was the first woman to serve as moderator of the then-six state Southeast Convention of Congregational Christian Churches. She also served two terms on the Kentucky-Tennessee Women's Fellowship while actively participating in the local church ministry.
She was on local boards including the YWCA and was president of Church Women United and the Parent Teacher Association for the city of Chattanooga.
Survivors other than her husband include a son, Arnold Mark Slater, Chattanooga; daughter, Betty Odom Soward, Chattanooga; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Pilgrim Congregational Church with Dr. John Mingus officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East.

William Smith
William C. Smith of Ooltewah died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, in a local health care facility. He was 81.
Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North, with the Rev. Clankston Freeman officiating.
Burial will be in Brayton cemetery.
The family will receive friends today after 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Robert Beck
Robert Winfred Beck died Monday, May 16, 1999, in a local nursing home. He was 85.
Mr. Beck had lived in the Chattanooga area for most of his life and was a Protestant.
Survivors include a son, Bob Beck, Harrison; a sister, Nell Hargraves, Rossville; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be today at 11 a.m. in Rock Spring cemetery with the Rev. Jason Perry officiating.
There will be no visitation at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
David Bragg
David Anthony Bragg of East Ridge died Saturday, May 15, 1999. He was 38.
A native of Savannah, Ga., he had lived in Hopkinsville, Ky., before moving to East Ridge five months ago. He attended the Church of God and was a member of the Ames Center.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Harmon Bragg Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Toni Sharp Bragg; mother and stepfather, June C. and Walter Prince, East Ridge; daughter, Stephanie Nicole Bragg, Jefferson City, Mo.; son, Leo Anthony Bragg, East Ridge; four sisters, Cynthia Bragg and Roxanne E. Baker, both of Chattanooga, Paulette L. Clark, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Katherine Hawkins, Colorado; two brothers, Paul H. Clinton, Albuquerque, N.M., and Allen D. McCarver II, Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Hillcrest cemetery in Savannah with the Rev. Vincent Kobosk officiating.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 8 p.m. at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.
Betty Clark
Betty Gladys Clark died Monday, May 17, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 73.
Mrs. Clark was a native of Harrison, Tenn., and had lived in Atlanta before moving to Chattanooga. She was a Baptist and the widow of Joseph Clark.
Survivors include a son, John Shetter Sr.; four sisters; two grandsons and two great-grandchildren, all of Chattanooga.
A graveside service will be today at 2 p.m. in Chattanooga National cemetery with the Rev. Gary Akins officiating.

Carolyn Ann Burrow Cramer died Sunday, May 16, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 58.

Maggie S. Haney of East Ridge died Monday, May 17, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was 96.
She was a member of East Chattanooga Church of God and was the widow of James Clay Haney.
Survivors include a brother, Olin Stansberry, Rogue River, Ore., and a sister, Gwen Couch, Chattanooga.
A graveside service will be today at 1 p.m. in Greenwood cemetery.

Grady B. Holland of Soddy-Daisy, formerly of Pikeville, Tenn., died Saturday, May 15, 1999. He was 62.
