Walter Potter
ETOWAH, Tenn. - Walter Eugene Potter died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at his home. He was 63.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Triplett and the Rev. Jesse Martin officiating.
Burial with military rites will be at Green Hill cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Sam Shelton
DECATUR, Tenn. - Sam Jasper Shelton died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at his home. He was 83.
A native and lifelong resident of Meigs County, he was retired from the state Highway Department after 31 years of service. He also had served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), which he joined in 1937. He was the widower of Katie Evelyn Moore Shelton and a Baptist.
Survivors include four daughters, Anna Joe Pickens, Sue Parson and Sammie Goins, all of Cleveland, Tenn., and Evelyn Mooney of Decatur; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were today at 1 p.m. at Ziegler Funeral Home in Athens, Tenn., with the Rev. Ralph Swafford officiating.
Burial was in Beta cemetery.
Elizabeth Turner
DUNLAP, Tenn. - Elizabeth Ann Thomas Turner of the Daus Community, near Dunlap, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at her home. She was 56.
She was a member of the Church of Christ and was the daughter of the late James Edwin and Ethel Hardy. She was a former employee of Tecumseh Products and was a member of Southend Volunteer Fire Department and the Daus Community Center.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby G. Turner; two stepdaughters, Lana Rollins, Harrison, Tenn., and Marcia Smith, Dunlap; one stepson, Mitchell Turner, Dunlap; three brothers, William B. Thomas and Norman L. Thomas, both of Pikeville, Tenn., and James E. Thomas Jr. of Mt. Ollie, Tenn.; and one stepgrandson.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. CDT at Ewton Funeral Home in Dunlap, with Roger Woods officiating.
Burial will be in Howard cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 9 p.m. CDT at the funeral home.
Delma Campbell
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Delma Pearl Campbell died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, in a local nursing home. She was 92.
She was retired from Burlington Industries, was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church and a member of Cleveland First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Marge Lee of Cleveland; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted today at 10 a.m. in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bill Griffith officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Foundation, 109 E. Germantown Road, Chattanooga, TN 37411.
Arrangements were made by Fike Funeral Home.
James Davis
McMINNVILLE, Tenn. - James Bobby Davis died Monday, Sept. 1, 1998, in an area hospital. He was 60.
He was a retired carpenter and construction worker and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Bunch Davis; four daughters, Jeanette McCormick and Angela King, both of McMinnville, Annette Anderson, Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Jackie Campbell, Altamont, Tenn.; two sons, Gregory Davis, Detroit, and Roger Womack, McMinnville; mother, Lutresia Davis; two sisters, Flora Ann Maxwell and Patricia Davis, all of McMinnville; 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home in McMinnville with Jerry Womack officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery.
Visitation will be today until 10 p.m. at the funeral home.
Gertie Fields
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Gertie Z. Brewer Fields died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 81.
She was the widow of David G. Fields and was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter, four sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Faye Gee and Carolyn Sue Trentham, both of Cleveland; two sons, Jackie Lee Brewer and Ricky D. Brewer; three sisters, Fannie Harris, all of Cleveland, Carrie Arp, Chattanooga, and Minnie Barker, Fort Wayne, Ind.; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Wildwood Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Miller officiating.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be today at the funeral home.
Flora Headlee
DAYTON, Tenn. - Flora Headlee died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at her home. She as 93.
She was the widow of Roy Headlee and the mother of the late W.M. Headlee.
Survivors include three daughters, Pauline Smith and Barbara Rothwell, both of Pikeville, and Edna Estep, Dayton; son, Jim Headlee, Dayton.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with the Rev Jimmy Jewell officiating.
Burial will be in Rogers cemetery in Dayton.
Visitation will be today from 1 to 9 pm. at the funeral home.
Lisa Johnson
GUILD, Tenn. - Lisa I. Johnson died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, from injuries she sustained in an automobile accident. She was 37.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. CDT at the funeral home.
Annie Laster
SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tenn. - Annie Mae Wright Laster died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at a Chattanooga hospital. She was 77.
The daughter of the late Walter and Serina Teal Wright was a member of Mount Bethlehem Baptist Church, a former employee of head Start, a life member and president of the NAACP and a member of the Marion County Democratic Women.
Mrs. Laster was the mother of the late Charles and Hugh S. Laster Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Delores Crews, Chattanooga; two sons, Mitchell and Marvin Laster, both of South Pittsburg; and six grandchildren.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. CDT at Mount Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald E. Boykin officiating.
Burial was in Cumberland View cemetery.

WHITWELL, Tenn. - Oma Layne died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, in an area nursing home. She was 77.
Services were today at 3 p.m. CDT at Hooper Funeral Home with Cotton Ross and the Rev. Jerry Merciers officiating.
Burial was in Red Hill cemetery.
James Moffitt
DUNLAP, Tenn. - James Shefford Moffitt of the Cagle community near Dunlap died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in a Chattanooga hospital. He was 63.
He was a member and deacon of Mt. Pleasant Congregational Methodist Church, and had driven the church bus for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Minton Moffitt; daughter, Robin Moffitt, Florence, Miss.; two sons, Scotty Moffitt, Augusta, Ga., and Calvin Moffitt, Dunlap; mother, Sarah Bonner Moffitt, Dunlap; sister, Linda Burgess, Dunlap.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Congregational Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Thomas and other ministers officiating.
Burial will be in Cagle Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
Visitation will be today until 9 p.m. at Ewton Funeral Home, Dunlap.

A native of Pikeville, Ky., he lived in Etowah for 19 years. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church and was a World War II veteran.
He was the son of the late Parris and Maryland Swinney Potter, and the father of the late Jerry L. Potter.
Survivors include three daughters, Diane Herget and Emma Jean Martin, both of Etowah, and Janice Sue Carlisle, Melrose, Ohio; two sons, Timmy and Randy E. Potter, both of Etowah; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Triplett and the Rev. Jesse Martin officiating.

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Barcia Prince died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at her home. She was 58.

Jesse Sullivan
DAYTON, Tenn. - Jesse Henry Sullivan of Graysville died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in an area hospital. He was 72.
Mr. Sullivan was a farmer and a trustee at New Harmony Freewill Baptist Church.
He was the son of Thomas H. and Nellie Margaret Rice Sullivan.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae Sullivan; mother, Nellie Sullivan, Dayton; three sons, Jesse O. Sullivan, Dayton, Arnold T. Sullivan, Evensville, and Oscar C. Sullivan, Marion County; daughter, Katherine A. Sullivan, Bledsoe County; two brothers, James Sullivan, Bledsoe County, and Fred Sullivan, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three sisters, Margaret Ritchey, Bledsoe County, Mary Revis, Dayton, and Martha Musgrave, Soddy-Daisy; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Vanderwall Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Brayton cemetery.
