Fred Blackburn
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Fred Blackburn died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, in an area hospital. He was 68.
He was a decorated Army veteran of the Korean War, during which he received a Purple Heart. He was a Baptist and a member of Cleveland Lodge 134 F&AM; and Prospect/White Oak Community Ruritan Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Denton Blackburn; daughter, Judy Darlene Blackburn, Cleveland; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Fike Funeral Home with ministers Ray Cheatham and Sammy Hughes officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home today at 8 p.m.

Mrs. Cheryl Flippo
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Mrs. Cheryl L. Flippo, a former resident of Cleveland, died Tuesday, April 30, 1996, at Babcock State Park in West Virginia. She was 46.
A resident of Nitro, W.V., she was a member of Landmark Church of God, Nitro, and a school teacher.
She was a cum laude graduate of West Virginia State College.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. James Michael Flippo, Nitro; three sons, Jamie Flippo, San Diego, Eric and Chad Flippo, both of Chicago; mother, Mary Jewell; three sisters, Pam Jewell, both of Harmony, N.C., Gina Woods, Greensboro, N.C., Anita Pratt, Monroe, N.C.; three brothers, Ricky and Terry Jewell, both of Charlotte, N.C., Charles Jewell, Salt Lake City.
Services were at 11 this morning at Landmark Church of God, Nitro, with the Revs. Al Bristow and Kenneth Boyd officiating.
Burial will be in Legacy Memorial Gardens, Cross Lanes, W.V.
Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, W.V., is in charge of arrangements.

Rhuetta Plumlee
POWELL, Tenn. - Rhuetta U. Plumlee, formerly of Decatur, Tenn., died Sunday, May 5, 1996, in a Knoxville hospital. She was 75.
She was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church, Decatur, the widow of Harold M. Plumlee and the mother of the late Harold Plumlee.
Services will be today at 8 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home, Decatur, with the Rev. Kenneth King officiating.
Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Mountain View Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Van Elkins officiating.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m.
William T. 'Tom' Rogers
William T. 'Tom' Rogers, a prominent Chattanooga pharmacist and businessman, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 56.
Mr. Rogers founded Rogers Discount Drugs, Chattanooga Medi-Kare Center, Superior Services of East Tennessee, Superior Services of Knoxville and Alpha Medical, which was at one time the largest manager of home health care agencies in the country.
He was a native of Chattanooga and a graduate of Chattanooga Central High School, Tennessee Technological University and the University of Tennessee at Memphis Pharmacy School.
Mr. Rogers was a longtime member of Woodland Park Baptist Church and also a member of First Baptist Church of Naples, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Gayle Moody Rogers; a son, William T. Rogers Jr.; daughter, Kathy Rogers Spurling; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Rogers, all of Chattanooga; a sister, Anita Adkins, Daytona Beach, Fla.; a granddaughter, Madison Spurling, Chattanooga; one niece and two nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Woodland Park Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Barber and Dr. Hayes Wicker officiating.
Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The body will be at the church Friday one hour before the service.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.
Wayne Gann
Wayne Andrew Gann, who retired from Combustion Engineering, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 66.
Mr. Gann, a resident of Soddy-Daisy, worked part time for Soddy-Daisy/Falling Water Utility and attended Oak Street Baptist Church.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Chattanooga Wood Carvers Association and Boilermakers Local 656.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Gann, and a daughter, Debra Hayes, both of Soddy-Daisy.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Evans and the Rev. Bill Ewing officiating.
Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Warren W. Roberts
Warren W. Roberts, retired after 25 years with Combustion Engineering, died Monday, March 1, 1999, at his home here. He was 81.
Born in Augusta, Ill., Mr. Roberts had been a resident of Chattanooga for 39 years. He was a member of Ashland Terrace Christian Church, where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher and had been treasurer and a member of the board.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a captain and ordnance officer in the 494th Fighter Squadron in England and Europe.
Mr. Roberts was a 50-year member of the Masons in Illinois and of Chattanooga VFW Post 4848, where he served as chaplain and trustee. He was an active Red Cross volunteer at Erlanger Medical Center for 17 years.
Survivors include his wife, Earlene Graves Roberts; two sons, Stanley Roberts, Clinton, Tenn., and Stephen Roberts, Grayslake, Ill.; a sister, Ruth Van Horn, Quincy, Ill.; three grandchildren, Christopher Roberts, Grayslake, Benjamin Roberts, Clinton, Tenn., and Michael Roberts, Salt Lake City, Utah; two stepgrandchildren, Russ and Karla Steadman, Clinton, Tenn.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Phil Summerlin and the Rev. Fate Thomas officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Verlan 'Ike' Torbett Jr.
Verlan 'Ike' Torbett Jr., assistant principal at Rossville (Ga.) Middle School and a longtime educator, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 48.
Mr. Torbett had taught and coached at Ringgold High School, Rossville High School and in the Floyd County and Madison County school systems.
He had served as a headmaster in Effingham County and as coordinator for the International Mock Olympics at Rossville Middle School.
Mr. Torbett was a resident of Signal Mountain and a longtime resident of Catoosa County, Ga. He was a son of the late Verlan I. Torbett Sr. and was a member of Lakeview First Baptist Church.
He was a graduate of Lakeview High School and played college football at Tennessee Tech, where he was a student assistant coach. He played on the Tennessee Tech team that won the Ohio Valley Conference title in 1972.
He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the Tennessee Tech Alumni and the Fort Oglethorpe Optimist Club. He was a PRA board member, a Little League volunteer and had served as a referee in this area.
He was active in all youth and sports activities.
Survivors include three sons, Russell Andrews Torbett, Airman 1st Class, England, Benjamin Haynes Torbett, Airman 1st Class, Washington State, and Charles Nathan Torbett, Signal Mountain; his mother, Sybil Andrews Torbett, Rossville; three brothers, Sam Torbett, Ringgold, Pat Torbett, Whitney, Texas, and Mike Torbett, Rossville; a sister, Kaye Williams, Rossville; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Lakeview First Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Frick officiating.
Burial will be in Antioch cemetery, Kensington, Ga.

Van Yates Sr.
Van M. Yates Sr., retired after 34 years with DuPont, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 76.
Mr. Yates, a resident of Hixson, was a native of Ringgold, Ga., a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of Red Bank United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, Chickamauga Region, and the Northgate Walkers Club.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Coulter Yates; two daughters, Pat Morgan, Chattanooga, and Marcella Powell, Dallas; a son, Van M. 'Buster' Yates Jr., Hixson; two sisters, Amalee Yates and Carla Williams, both of Ringgold; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North, with the Rev. Mike Hubble officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 4 to 9 p.m. and from 11 a.m. until the service Friday.
