Gerald Fulbright
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Rev. Gerald Lewis Fulbright died Friday, Feb. 14, 1998, in an area hospital. He was 65.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Fulbright, and a brother, the Rev. Milford Fulbright.
He pastored several area churches and was most recently a member of First Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Gamble Fulbright of Cleveland; two daughters, Susan Dotson of Cleveland, and Patty Gilliland, Pennsylvania; a son, J.R. Fulbright of Cleveland; mother, Gerthel Watkins Fulbright of Cleveland; three sisters, Helen O'Neil, Calhoun, Ga., Edna Moorhouse and Janice Rymer of Benton, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the North Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Bill Griffith and the Rev. Allan Lockerman officiating.
Burial will follow in Benton Station Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Evelyn Gaffin
Evelyn Patterson Gaffin died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, in a local hospital.
The daughter of the late Jim and Stella Giles Patterson was a Baptist.
Survivors include her son, Marty Gaffin, Ooltewah; and several grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Trivette officiating.
Burial will be in the New Beason cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mary Garfield
Mary Garfield of Hixson, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 81.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Williamson and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Randy Martin officiating.
Burial will be in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Marion Gawer
Marion Deloris Gawer died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at her home. She was 79.
A native of Webster, N.Y., she had lived in the Chattanooga area for the past 16 years. She had served as a local school bus driver and was the widow of Roy Gawer.
Survivors include a son, Gary Gawer; a daughter, Sharon Chapman, both of Chattanooga; one brother, John Slocum, El Paso, Texas; one sister, Peggy Slocum, Pennsylvania; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wayne Butts officiating.
Burial will be in Webster Rural cemetery in Webster, N.Y.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Clata George
SPENCER, Tenn. - Clata Mae George died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in a Warren County nursing home. She was 79.
A native of White County, Tenn., she was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include two sisters, Kathleen Roberts, Manchester, Nona Mae Beckham, Florida; and one brother, Everett Lee Davis, Quebeck, Tenn.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home, Spencer Chapel, with Lofton Graves officiating.
Burial will be in Doyle cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 1 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service.
Melvin Carter
Melvin 'Mel' Carter, a native of Birmingham, Ala., died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, in Denver, Colo.
Arrangements will be announced by Taylor Funeral Home.
Flaud Carver
Flaud S. Carver died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 87.
A native of Wilson County, Tenn., he was a retired manager at 3M Corp., a member of Red Bank United Methodist Church and the husband of the late Johnia Carver.
Survivors include a daughter, Mancy Martin, Lake Jackson, Texas; four brothers, his twin, Claud Carver and Joe Carver, nashville, William Carver Lakeland, Fla., and Dr. John Carver Orange, Calif; two sisters, Florence Harwell and Ailene Begarly, both of Nashville; two grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ted Baker and the Rev. Brenda Holloway officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Buford Case
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Buford Case died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 64.
A Navy veteran, he was the retired maintenance supervisor from Leisure Lake in Florida, a Baptist and the father of the late Pam, Robert and Ronnie Case.
Survivors include his wife, Zula M. Case; five daughters, Carolyn Shick, Joyce High, Shirley Brooks, all of Lake Plaza, Fla., Marie Hill, Cleveland, Sue Judge, California; two sons, Buford Lynn Case, Tinsely Park, Ill., Ralph Case, Phoenix, Ariz.; 14 brothers and sisters; 20 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m. today in Sunset Memorial Gardens with James Staton officiating.
Arrangemetns are by the Wildwood Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Home, Cleveland.
Evelyn Castleberry
Evelyn C. Castleberry of East Ridge, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 70.
A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, she was a member of the Dry Valley Baptist Church. She was retired from J.C. Penney, where she was a sales associate. She was the widow of Earl W. Castleberry and was the mother of the late Evelyn Earlene Castleberry.
Survivors include three daughters, Judith C. Smith of Knoxville, Rhonda Hemstreet of Chattanooga, and Deborah Newberry of Cleveland, Tenn.; a son, Edward L. Castleberry of Trenton, Ga.; five sisters, Wanda Braly of Chattanooga, Geraldine McClellan, Glenda Chapman and Diane Werther, all of Tampa, Fla., and Donna Timmer of Houston, Texas; four brothers, J.D. Skiles of Nashville, and David, Tony and Michael Skiles, all of Tampa; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the East Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Chattanooga National cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Roy L. Cawood, 77, Dies
RICEVILLE, Tenn. - Roy L. Cawood, retired co-owner of Athens Supply Co. and a veteran of World War II, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, in a Knoxville hospital. He was 77.
Mr. Cawood had served in the Cleveland and Athens units of the Tennessee National Guard. At the time of his death he was the most decorated member of the Second Battalion 117th Infantry, having received two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal for his entire length of service, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Tennessee National Guard Distinguished Service Ribbon.
He was a Baptist and a member of the Woodmen of the World, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ruritan Club.
Survivors include his wife, Isabel Cawood; a son, Tony Cawood, Riceville; two brothers, Taylor and T.J. Cawood; two sisters, Juanita Cawood and Louise Barnard, all of Cleveland; and three granddaughters.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Ziegler Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Michael Roach officiating.
Burial will be in Riceville cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Neta Caylor
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Neta Caylor died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, in a Houston, Texas, hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Ralph Buckner Funeral Home in Cleveland.
James Chadwick
James Wallace 'Chad' Chadwick of Birchwood died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 64.
A lifelong resident of Birchwood, he was a Baptist.
He was the son of the late Charlie Chadwick.
Survivors include his mother, Era Chadwick; four sisters, Mary Massengale and Thelma Milliken, all of McDonald, Juanita Mingie and Ruth Ann Hagler, both of Cleveland; three brothers, Coy Chadwick, Cumming, Ga., William Chadwick, McDonald, and Donald Chadwick, Ooltewah.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the North Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Home, Cleveland, with the Rev. Wade Miller officiating.
Burial will be in Antioch Baptist Church cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
