Evelyn Powell
Evelyn Powell died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 101.
Mrs. Powell was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sister, Hazel Evans; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. James Calhoun officiating.
Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.
The body will be at Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home after noon today.
Jessie Prestwood
Jessie Lee Welch Prestwood of Birchwood died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at a hospital in Decatur. She was 86.
She was a lifelong Hamilton County resident, a Baptist, and the widow of John Welch and Verney Prestwood.
Survivors include her five sons, Charles, John, Ed and Steve Welch, all of Harrison, and Arthur 'Ott' Welch, Ooltewah; four daughters, Juanita Morgan, Georgetown, Barbara Posey, Norma Leaman and Pat Cagle, all of Harrison; two brothers, Virgil Shook, Birchwood, and Elmer Shook, Chattanooga; 22 grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with minister Ernest Sutton officiating.
Burial will be in Bald Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from noon to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mary Price
Funeral services for Mary Louise Price were today at 10 a.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Clifford Roth officiating.
Mrs. Price died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, in a local nursing home. She was 84.
A native of Mississippi, she was retired as manager of the bookstore at Perkinston Jr. College in Perkinston, Miss.
She had been a resident of Chattanooga for the past nine years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Elliott.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary A. Standard, Chattanooga; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Walter Pryor
Dr. Walter Scott Pryor, a chiropractor in Chattanooga for more than 46 years, died Saturday morning, Jan. 24, 1998, at his home. He was 82.
Dr. Pryor was a lifelong area resident and a lifetime member of the Southeast Tennessee Chiropractic Association. An Army veteran, he played with the Americal Military Band and was a member of the Alhambra Temple and Brainerd Masonic Lodge 736.
He was a member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Stage Pryor; four daughters, Shaen Callaway, Laurie Elmore and Elyse Foley, all of Chattanooga, and Anita Wilt, Woodstock, Ga.; son, Walter Scott Pryor Jr., Chattanooga; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with the Rev. Thomas C. Chilcote officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
William Rafajko
William J. Rafajko died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at a local hospital.
A memorial Mass will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at a date to be announced.
Burial will be at All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines, Ill.
Arrangements are by Wann Funeral Home and Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home in Chicago.
Wilma Ramsey
OCOEE, Tenn. - Wilma C. Ramsey died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at a local nursing home. She was 81.
She was a Duplin Manufacturing Co. retiree and a member of Smyrna Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Ramsey Stephens, Cleveland; two grandchildren, Dennis R. Stephens, Ocoee, and Cynthia A. Rogers, Trenton, Ga.; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Grace Daugherty, Ocoee.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Fike Funeral Home in Cleveland, Tenn., with minister Ernest Arms and others officiating.
Interment will be in Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lecia Ransom
Lecia Hopson Ransom of Red Bank died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 44.
Survivors include a daughter, Jessica Daniel Ransom of Chattanooga.
There will be be no service.
Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. until noon at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.
Alta Raper
Alta Ross Raper died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 86.
A retired Hamilton County school teacher, she taught at East Brainerd Elementary and Apison Elementary.
She was a longtime member of Silverdale Baptist Church, and was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Raper; three daughters, Billie Soloff, Chattanooga, Jan Gentry, Decatur, Tenn., and Debbie Morley, Hixson; one son, Bobby Jack Raper, Malaga, Spain; a sister, Ola Mayo; and a brother, John Ross, both of Manchester; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Williams and the Rev. Burl McMillan officiating.
Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 8 p.m.

Doris Ray
Doris M. Ray died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 69.
A native of Piedmont, Ala., Mrs. Ray had lived in Chattanooga since 1983, coming from Fairfax, Va.
She was a member of Bayside Baptist Church and its Faith Sunday school class, and athe Murray Hills Garden Club.
Survivors include her husband, Travis Ray; daughter, Ginger Chittum, Cartersville, Ga.; two sons, Randy L. Ray, Chattanooga, and David Ray, Austin, Texas; brother, George Mallows, Piedmont; three sisters, Wyndel Wilson and Mary Holbrook, both of Piedmont, and Frances Fiske, Miami; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with the Rev. Bob Stitts officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Kenneth Redd
Kenneth Lynn Redd died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at his home. He was 63.
He was the founder of Redd- I Incorporated, and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin Redd, Chattanooga, and Adam Redd, Miami, Fla.; two daughters, Shannon Redd, Miami, and Sheila McCallister, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the West Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday in South Carolina.
Visitation will be today from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Nina Reed
JASPER, Tenn. - Nine Sue Reed died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 67.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry Reed, Ringgold, Ga., and Mike and Dennis Reed, Jasper; seven daughters, Linda Rector, Chattanooga, Hazel Moore, Bridgeport, Ala., Patricia Pickett, Clara Levan, Eunice Kilgore, Connie Wilson and Sara West, all of Jasper; 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Beatrice Cooper and Alice Thortson, both of Huntsville, Ala., and Anna Ruth Gross, Chattanooga.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. CDT at Hooper Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Shirley and the Rev. Victor Levan officiating.
Burial will be in Whitwell Memorial cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. CDT at the funeral home.
