Charles M. Carmack
Funeral services for Mr. Charles M. Carmack, 66, of Gordonsville, will be conducted at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, January 17, 2001, from the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Gainesboro with Bro. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Scott cemetery in the Fairview Community of Jackson County with Anderson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Carmack died Monday, January 15, 2001, at Smith County Memorial Hospital in Carthage. He was disabled.

Born April 30, 1934, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Charlie Young and Rose Nell Carmack Scott.

Survivors include five brothers, George Scott and John Scott, both of Smyrna, Edward Scott, Gallatin, Elmer Scott, Mt. Juliet, and Billy Scott, Gainesboro; two sisters, Dortha Williams, Gordonsville, and Thelma Rogers, Hilham; two special nieces, Sandra Lambert and Brenda Davis; and several other nieces and nephews.

R. D. Lee
Funeral services for Mr. R. D. Lee, 74, of Battle Creek, MI and formerly of Overton County, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, 1999, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Gordon Pippin officiating. Burial was in Wirmingham cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Lee, District Buildings Supervisor at Pennfield Schools, died Thursday, November 18, 1999, in Battle Creek, MI.

Born April 6, 1925, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Catherine (Cooper) Lee. He was an active member of Central Christian Church, Battle Creek, MI and a veteran of the U. S. Army during WWII.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn (Parrott) Lee, Battle Creek, MI; a son and companion, Russ Lee and Robert Buchanan, Los Angeles, CA; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Robert Read, Plymouth, IN; a sister and brother-in-law, Ala and Estel Young, Monroe; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Stella Jane Crabtree
Funeral services for Mrs. Stella Jane Crabtree, 87, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, November 29, 1999, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Larry Thomas officiating. Burial was in Miller cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arangements.

Mrs. Crabtree, a housewife, died Saturday, November 27, 1999, at Overton County Nursing Home.

Born December 29, 1911, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Anderson Thomas and Laura (Holt) Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Crabtree; a son, Kelsie Crabtree; three daughters, Edna Olene Ledbetter, Laura Maynard, and Dorthy Dean Ledbetter; four sisters, Vernie Stover, Mary Sebers, Vella Bilbrey, and Bobbi Kyle; and three brothers, Wilburn Thomas, Botch Thomas, and Herman Thomas.

She was a member of Allons Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Neal, Livingston; four sons, Willie Crabtree, Livingston, Hezzie Crabtree, Hilham, Durrell Crabtree, Springfield, and Don L. Crabtree, Bone Cave; 37 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Andy Roberts, Tom Neal, Michael Crabtree, Shane Crabtree, Andy Crabtree, and Curtis Winningham.

Glen O. Melton
Funeral services for Mr. Glen O. Melton, 85, of Monroe, were conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, November 29, 1999, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Glen Ledbetter officiating. Burial was in Hatcher Hall cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Melton, a ferry operator and farmer, died Friday, November 26, 1999, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born July 4, 1914, in Cumberland County, KY, he was the son of the late James and Viola Melton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Sue Melton and Gayle Beaty, four brothers, Garfield Melton, John Melton, Jim Melton, and Curt Melton, two sisters, Myrtle Hutchinson, and Myrtie Gore, a grandson, Darrel Armstrong, and three sons-in-law, Danny R. Ledbetter, Joe Garrett, and Collis Huddleston.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Melton, Monroe, five sons, Rex Melton, Kendrick Melton, Roy Hugh Melton, all of Monroe, Gary Melton, Livingston, and Joe Melton, Hartford City, IN, three daughters, Ruth Waddey, Baxter, Shirley Garrett, Monroe, and Barbara Lee, Livingston, a stepson, Doc Jolley, Monroe, two stepdaughters, Juanita Roberts, Nashville, and Jean Norrod, Monroe, 35 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were his sons.

Jerry R. Gaw
Funeral services for Mr. Jerry R. Gaw, 66, of Hilham, were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 24, 1999, from Aarons Chapel Community Church with Rev. Tracy Langford officiating. Burial was in Aarons Chapel cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Gaw, a retired employee from the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation, died Monday, November 22, 1999, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

Born December 13, 1932, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Warren and Clemma (Smith) Gaw.

He was a member of Aarons Chapel Community Church and of Livingston Lodge #259.

Survivors include his wife, Ann (Roberson) Gaw, Hilham, a son, Terry Gaw, Hilham, a daughter, Cheryl Smith, Celina, a brother, Bruce Gaw, Hilham, seven grandchildren, Scott Gaw, Mark Gaw, Kyle Gaw, Jason Bilbrey, Carla Bilbrey, Billy Smith Jr., and Anthony Smith, and two great grandchildren, Selena Grace, and Austin Gaw.

Pallbearers were Harvey Law, Jerry Beasley, Gary Killman, Jim Roberson, Tony Peek, Steve Hunter, Scotty Geesling, and Stan Walthal.

Bobby Gene Scott
Funeral services for Mr. Bobby Gene Scott, 57, of Monroe, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 1999, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Taylor officiating. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Scott, a road construction worker, died Saturday, November 27, 1999, at his home.

Born July 15, 1942, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Alfred and Ethel (Carmack) Scott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

He was a member of Midway Christian Church and Eagle Creek Lodge #530 of Monroe.

Survivors include his wife, Lola Scott, Monroe, three sons, Dodd Scott, Denny Scott, both of Monroe, and David Scott, Hilham, two sisters, Joy Keisling, Whitleyville, and Frances Vanderpool, Nashville, and five grandchildren, Brian Scott, Anthony Scott, Kyle Scott, Kevin Scott, and Joshua Scott.

Pallbearers were Johnny Cravins, James Bass, Gerald Norrod, Fred Dennis, Roy Cravins, and Steve Sims.

Honorary pallbearers were Anthony Scott, Brian Scott, Kevin Scott, Joshua Scott, Kyle Scott, Bud Carr, Bethel Norrod, Tanker Cravins, Steve Smith, Keith Jones, and Billy Garrett.

Curtis W. Owens
Funeral services for Mr. Curtis W. 'Shorty' Owens, 68, of Algood, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 1999, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with Bro. Jack Collins and Bro. Jerry Peek officiating. Burial will be in Paran cemetery with Whitson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Owens, a self-employed plumber, died Monday, December 6, 1999, at his home.

Born February 25, 1931, in Putnam County, he was the son of Lela Mae Gentry, Cookeville, and the late Oscar C. Owens. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Jewell; and a brother, Herman D. Owens.

He attended the House of Prayer.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Lola Owens, Algood; a daughter, Mary Ellen Hunter, Algood; five sons, Johnny Owens, Sparta, Mike Owens, Rickman, Terry Owens, Ricky Owens, and Robert Owens, all of Algood; two sisters, Flo Yarbororgh and Mae Chaffin, both of Cookeville; 16 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and six step-great grandchildren.

Sylvia E. (Ayers) Newby
Graveside services for Mrs. Sylvia E. (Ayers) Newby, 82, of Anderson, IN, were conducted at Anderson Memorial Park with Bob Bell of Bethany Christian Church officiating. Brown, Butz, and Diedring Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Newby, a retired employee of Delco-Remy, died Saturday, November 27, 1999, at St. John's Hospital.

Born April 20, 1917, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late J. B. and Avo Ayers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

She was a member of UAW-CIO Local #662 and she graduated from Fisk Academy, Hilham.

Survivors include a son, John B. Newby, Anderson, IN, two sisters, Ollie Geiger and Beulah Moore, both of Anderson, IN, two grandchildren, Kevin and Lucretia, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Eliza Jane Miller
Eastern Star funeral rites for Mrs. Eliza Jane Miller, 78, of Monterey, were conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 1999, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 2, 1999, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Joe Hedgecough officiating. Burial was in Phillips cemetery in Hanging Limb with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Miller, a retired factory worker, died Tuesday, November 30, 1999, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born June 20, 1921, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Margaret (Smith) Guffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin Miller, and a daughter, Pauline Miller.

She was a member of the Calvary Freewill Baptist Church and Green Pond Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #482.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Paytina Miller, Sparta, a brother, Lemo Guffey, Hanging Limb, and a grandson, Matthew Miller, Sparta.

Dessie Ora Cyphers
Funeral services for Mrs. Dessie Ora Cyphers, 93, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, December 3, 1999, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Glenn Ledbetter officiating. Burial was in Fellowship cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Cyphers, a housewife, died Wednesday, December 1, 1999, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born January 17, 1906, in Peytonburg, KY, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Belle Capps Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cyphers; two sons, Radford Cyphers and Raymond Cyphers; a daughter, Jewell Martin; and two grandchildren, Rita Faye Mathis and Jamie Cyphers.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Eddie Cyphers and James Carl Cyphers, both of Allons; four daughters, Anna Lee Martin, Livingston, Frances Sells, Monroe, Agnes Ward, Allons, and Betty Leons, Anderson, IN; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jerry Sells, Dale Day, David Harris, Michael Cyphers, Larry Cyphers, and Paul Bybee.

Mary Bean Breeding
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Bean Breeding, 88, of Cookeville, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, November 22, 1999, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Bary Ray and Rev. Raymond Lawson officiating. Burial was in Dodson Chapel cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Breeding, a housewife and farmer, died Saturday, November 20, 1999, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born June 11, 1911, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Susie (Rector) Bean. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Arlow Breeding; a daughter, Mae Belle Breeding; 17 brothers and sisters; and two grandchildren.

She was a member of Dodson Chapel United Methodist Church and attended Rickman Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include a son, Joe Breeding, Crawford; a daughter, Ova Warren, Livingston; a sister, Avo Bennett, Livingston; nine grandchildren, Geraldine Walker, Patricia Bilbrey, Lonnie Breeding, Donnie Breeding, Billy Breeding, Willie Breeding, Teresa Breeding, Biddie Moore, and Earlene Norris; 18 great grandchildren; and two special friends, Bary Ray and Debbie Holman.

Pallbearers were Herman Bean, Bill Doran, Dan Waters, Ricky Anderson, Michael Walker, and Cecil Gentry.

Honorary pallbearers were Greg Gentry, Bryan Gentry, Aron Gentry, Thomas Gentry, and Shane Walker.
