Mr. Anthony Burger
Anthony John Burger, international gospel and classical pianist, departed this life on February 22, 2006. Son of Richard and Jean Burger, he was born on June 5, 1961 in Cleveland, TN. Having been severely burned as a baby, doctors believed he would never have full use of his hands. However, by age three, he began playing the piano on hi own accord. By age five, he began study at the University of Tennessee's Cadek Conservatory of Music, the youngest ever admitted. He began touring with the gospel quartet "The Kingsmen" at age 16. He spent the last 13 years of his life as the pianist in the Gaither Homecoming Series while also focusing on his solo career. Anthony received many awards and honors in hi life. He was voted "Musician of the Year" by "Singing News" magazine ten years straight until finally the award was named after him. A previous recipient of the Dove award nomination, he has once again been nominated this year for the instrumental album of the year. He was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2000. Among other activities, he participated in the Billy Graham Crusades on several occasions. He is endorsed by the Steinway & Sons as a Steinway artist. Anthony played for many dignitaries including Presidents Carter & Reagan. He is survived by his wife, LuAnn Burger of Franklin, TN; parents: Richard and Jean Burger of Cleveland, TN; sons: Anthony John & Austin McKinley Burger of Franklin, TN; daughter: Lori Apple of Franklin, TN; brother and sister-in-law: Randy and Linda Burger of Athens, TN; brother and sister-in-law: Clinton and Janet Burger of Cleveland, TN; sister-in-law and husband: Angela & Linn Durbin of Cleveland, TN; nephews: Travis Burger and Alan Davis both of Cleveland, TN; nieces: Tabitha Huff and Monica Chestnutt both of Cleveland, TN; Hannah Durbin and Sydney Durbin both of Tamp, FL; uncle and aunt: Homer and Dena Thompson of Greybull, WY; uncle and aunt: Dean and Margaret Thompson of Cleveland, TN; uncle: Hershel Burger and aunt: Katherine Huellett both of Cleveland, TN; aunt and uncle: Naomi and Paul Sexton of Cleveland, TN; aunts: Willie Murphy and Reba Sparks both of Cleveland, TN; aunt and uncle Francis and Junior Whaley of Fort Wayne, IN; aunt and uncle Lily and Charlie Pritchard of Fort Myers, FL and numerous cousins and countless friends. A service will first be held at Christ Church in Nashville, TN, Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation with the family Tuesday, February 28, 2006 from 6 until 9 p.m. in the Wallace Chapel of the Christ Church and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until noon. Afterwards in Cleveland, gathering of friends will take place Thursday, March 2, 2006 from 5 until 9 p.m. with a service to be held Friday, March 3, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Clingan Ridge Baptist Church with visitation from noon until 2 p.m. on Friday. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gospel Music Trust Fund/Anthony Burger. Anthony began his music career with "The Old Rugged Cross" and ended his career with a final solo, "Keep On The Firing Line". This is a testament to his life's work of bringing people to Christ so that they can join him in the Kingdom of Heaven. We will miss him, but we know that Anthony is now accompanying angels. Funeral services for Mr. Earl T. Jones, age 74, of Elora, TN, who passed away Sunday, February 26, 2006 at the Donalson Care Center, will be conducted Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Gallant Funeral Home with Bro. Charlie Hammons officiating. Burial will follow in Elora Cemetery. Mr. Jones was a native of Madison Co, AL, son of the late John Mitchell Jones & the late Gertrude Gustava Hunt Jones, a carpenter, an Army veteran, a member of the Oakley Baptist Church, a mason, enjoyed arrowhead hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife: Willa Jones of Elora, TN; 2 daughters: Cynthia Catalano of Manchester, TN, Lisa Lynn of Athens, AL; 1 sister: Faye Warnock of Elora, TN; 3 brothers: Joe Thomas Jones of Illinois, Charles Jones, Junior Jones both of Elora, TN and 4 grandchildren. Mr. Byron G. Pendergrass
Funeral services for Mr. Byron G. Pendergrass, age 47, of Shelbyville, TN, who passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2006 in the Vanderbilt Medical Center, will be conducted Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Gallant Funeral Home with Elder Ron Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Flintville Cemetery. Mr. Pendergrass was a native of Lauderdale Co., TN, son of Thelma Lynn Faulkner Pendergrass of Shelbyville, TN and the late J.H. Pendergrass, a truck driver, a veteran of the National Guard and a member of the Emmanuel Church of Christ Pentecostal. Along with his father, Mr. Pendergrass was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Abigail Faith Morrison. Along with his mother, he is survived by his close companion: Sandy Sons of Shelbyville, TN; daughter: Angelin Suzutte Pendergrass Morrison of Adairville, KY; son: Richard Pierson Pendergrass of Adairville, KY; grandchildren: Nathan Cody & Austin Blake Pendergrass, Shelby Lynn & Jayden Layne Morrison; sister: Rhonda Lynn Pendergrass Brannon of Shelbyville, TN. Mr. Finn was a native of Lincoln Co., TN, son of Katie Finn of Fayetteville, TN and the late Charles Lee Finn. He was a heavy equipment operator. Along with his father, Mr. Finn is preceded in death by his grandparents: E.Z. & Lillie Jacobs Mooneyham & Robert Finn.
